Police in Reno went house to house in the middle of the night, pounding on doors and telling residents they had to evacuate as a roughly 400-acre blaze raged in rough terrain, destroyed homes and injured some people. At least one man is dead, after suffering a fatal cardiac arrest while evacuating.
Nearly 10,000 people from the edge of the city have been evacuated from the path of the massive wildfire and the local fire chief said the blaze could rage through Saturday.

Socialism kills.
These deaths are the direct result of allowing enviro-socialism to replace the 10,000+ year old historical management of the land by man.

She’s hoping the fire will destroy the evidence of what really happened.
It won’t.

It hasn’t been on any of the national news channels that I have seen. I found out about it on The Weather Channel - and did a search on Google ‘news’. There are quite a few videos put on YouTube in the last couple hourse, also. Here’s one:

No doubt President Urkel will blame this fire on Global Warming like he did the Texas wildfires.
I know there's a video of him saying that but I couldn't find it.

No, they’re from Sun Valley, north of Reno proper.
This fire is in the southern side/southwest area of Reno. We used to live just south of where this fire is...

To: yorkie
I am less than a mile from the edge of one of the fires....it split into 2 fires by jumping a major thoroughfare. The smoke is horrendous since the wind is around 40-60mph up there until around 4PM. Good news....we are expecting a snowstorm tonight!
- 25 homes lost so far
- Over 10,000 Evacuated
- No defintive cause for fire...officials looking now
- Over 400 firefighters and even more police etc
- Over 2000 acres burned
- Disaster Zone declared

Nonsense.
You should go to Reno and look at it.
I'm surprised the fire had enough fuel to stay lit.
There's nothing for man to manage except scrub...and if you cut all of that you'll have mudslides in the winter/spring.
It's a generally inhospitable place:)
If it wasn't for the original mines, nobody would have stopped there in their western travels 150yrs ago.
No offense to the Reno residents, but that's one ugly town. And, the wind never stops.

If it wasn't for the original mines, nobody would have stopped there in their western travels 150yrs ago. Actually, it was a winter staging area before crossing the Sierras. If you could make it to Reno before the winter set in, you were safe. Fatten up over winter get an early start the next year, and you'd make it over the mountains okay. In those days, crossing the Sierras was dangerous as hell, and many people lost their lives thinking, "how bad can it be, we already crossed the Rockies and the desert, let's push on to California." Then the snow would come...

- o% contained but Fire Chief says evacuees 'may' be let back in at noon tomorrow depending on if FF have stopped the advance of fire
- 4000-4500 homes saved so far
- All Washoe County schools were cancelled (Evac Centers at 2 HS)
- Several Assisted Living patients evacuated to St Marys Hosp due to power outage possibilites and bad smoke
- Downed power lines from wind in the burn area (some think this is how the fire started)
- Casinos offering free and super discounted rooms for affected evacuees
- Reno/Tahoe Airport still open

We had a little wetness last weekend...but it dried up so fast because we are high desert. The ‘snow’ we were supposed to get is going to just make a fine dust. Bummer! The winds are still very strong here less than a mile west of the fire ridge. It’s around 42 degrees and sunny....well through the smoke and ashes....

Greetings from a former Californian. Sweet Hubby and I chose Northern Nevada for our retirement home. We sold our San Luis Obispo house on three acres to our oldest son ten years ago, and sold mt mother's homes in Palm Springs (gated community) and Ojai(three stories with elevator) this fall. Sadly many areas of California have become overcrowded, crime ridden; with perpetually gray-brown skies. We live about fifty minutes from Reno and Carson City and fifteen minutes from Virginia City. Wild horses are frequent visitors to our place. We have great human neighbors too. It is the custom to wave and/or honk while passing people or vehicles. Except during stormy weather our skies are a deep brilliant blue. We enjoy four season weather, with lots of opportunities for fishing, skiing, and camping. I could easily afford to live anywhere in California but I chose to live here. But I'm sure that where you live in California is perfect for you. My sister and brother-in-law have home in gated communities in Arrowhead and Palm Springs. I'm sure she considers my husband and I a bit crazy for nor craving a 4,000 square foot+ house on a lake, or a 3.000 square foot + house on a golf course ideal.
