Skip to comments.Gingrich 'prepared to take the heat' with talk of amnesty ("Let's be humane in enforcing the law")

“I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who’ve been here for a quarter of a century … [and] separate them from their families and expel them,” Gingrich said during a discussion about illegal immigration and border security. “I do believe we should control the border. I do believe we should have very severe penalties.”

You imply Freepers are racist for wanting to have enforced immigration laws just like Mexico and every other country south of the border. Does it matter for conservatives that the vast majority of recent immigrants, at every income level, vote Democratic?
Honestly, this is the first campaign I have actually heard candidates use the word “deport” as such (Gingrich and Bachmann).
That’s a plus, not a minus!
>> It was all an artifice intended to make the Republican mainstream look heartless.
I agree, a bogus and shortsighted characterization.
I had a freeper in the debate thread call me a Neo Nazi for wanting deportation of all illegals.
The RINOs are really starting to pay shills to post here, aren’t they..
I was using hyperbole to make a point.
"Senator McCain and I agree on the big picture,
where it is that the country needs to go."
SARAH PALIN, 28 MAR. 2010
"I support [McCain's] position on immigration."
SARAH PALIN, 27 MAR. 2010
Sarah said on her Univision interview that “it’d not be humane” to round them up and deport them all. etc etc.
Read my post 109 for reference.
Funny seeing current and former Sarah supporters busting Newt over this.
I agree with your assessment. Purity we are not going to find in any of the candidates. If they are 100% conservative they have no chance nationally to win.
What we saw tonight may have just saved the republic from another Rino mess in newt as president.
God works in mysterious ways and I hope to God that those supporting this fraud just got a look at the real Newt. A political chameleon who panders to the left wing nut jobs.
>> Bush did the same thing with that “compassionate Conservatism” nonsense.
not at the moment, why?
Another pol corrupted by Cartels, Inc. Wonder what threats or money or drugs or trafficked humans they used on him?
So the ‘humane’ Republican gives millions of illegals amnesty so they can vote in dem presidents forever.
Good plan, Newt. Are you thinking they will love Republicans because of that? If you got in, they would vote you out of a second term.

Biggest mistake that mattered from this debate: NEWT ON IMMIGRATION.

Give it up already. Sarah IS NOT RUNNING AND WON’T BE DRAFTED.
Order off the menu, or starve.
Exactly. How about he talk about how humane it is to put US citizens out of work like my cousin because all the construction companies are hiring illegals here in New york city? Even the CITY is hiring illegals to do road work. That’s all you see is when it comes to contruction and road work is Mexican Mexicans Mexicans all over the place. The working class is getting killed by illegals. The taxi biz has all been destroyed by them. When a guy was unemployed or needed some extra loot for Christmas he use to drive a cab or doing construction work. My father use to do it when he was a cop in the 1960s, moonlighting they called it. Not anymore. Illegals have all but cornered the market in those jobs and quite easily being that we have a lib Mayor who all but kisses their arses.
“Speaker Gingrich may be able to walk this back and minimize the damage by forcefully demanding a substantial fine be assessed against the illegal aliens that broke our laws long ago but have maintained decades-long family and community roots without a criminal record. “
Cut the “fine” crap. It sounds just like McCain. We’re not STUPID enough to think that a “fine” would be paid by the ILLEGAL. No, we know that one or more of the following will happen, if there is a “fine”:
1) There will be a “hardship” exemption, where people that have not had much to show on tax returns (either because they didn’t make much, or, more likely, what they made never showed up on tax returns) get their “fine” waived.
2) ACORN, Soros, the DNC, or whoever pay the “fine”, so the “fine” is meaningless.
3) A judge declares the “fine” to be inhumane, so it is simply tossed out.
Yeah, whatever. I take it you’ve never lived or ‘visited’ any of the 3rd world latin ‘American’ sh!t holes.
If you had, you would know that that they are lawless, poverty & crime-ridden banana republics for the most part.
I guess that’s what you want for the United States. Through mass illegal invasion they are bringing those ‘values’ with them. Our Culture is hanging by a thread. Soon we will become Norte MEXICANO......enjoy the beheadings, GORON.
I like Cain too. But you must be blind to not realize where this country is headed. Where do u think this country will be in 6-10 years.
Do u actually believe that either party, who have caused this country killing death spiral are the same ones who can fix it?
And I am not just talking about illegals. I’m talking about our massive debt.
There are only two options that will stop this death spiral.
1. A complete wipe out of the current DC hacks (which is unlikely)
2. A Collapse (Which is more likely)
You pass tough proof of citizenship laws like Alabama did and those illegals will leave. And u keep passing laws in states to force them into states like California, which is already been overrun and is NOT EVER COMING Back.
That’s how u do it. And BTW, desperate, jobless Americans will do most of the jobs illegals do now.
The fact that Newt is even temporarily considered is a statement on how pathetic the RINO party has become.
Thanks for the link, I am on my phone so I will read it tomorrow.
Liberals think that laws are made to be broken. Conservatives do not believe rule of man. Newt Gingrich is a self serving egomaniac who loves to hear himself talk. He is too knee jerk and changeable to be a responsible president.
See post 109.
But I totally agree with your post.
Have a blessed day FRiend ~!
I remember that one!
...desperate, jobless Americans will do most of the jobs illegals do now.
Agreed, IF our government quits handing out freebies.
Now that I am watching the rerun, I think Santorum is doing very well. As is Herman Cain.
*rolling eyes* She is NOT planning to run...didn’t get the memo, huh?
I have no trouble with allowing deportees to take family members home with them. Any family members who are lawful US citizens are welcome to return, as when attaining the age of majority...
So true, and so sad.
I will NEVER support Newt.
Hey Newt! Would it be “humane” enough allow the illegal aliens to set up Occupy Mexican Border Camps inside Mexico?
BTW, I’ll bet we could get some of the OWS people to supervise sanitation stations. Better weather now in Mexico than in NYC.
Newt has been making these immigration proposals in other venues and there have been several newspaper articles. I’d been wondering when it would come out in a debate with the much larger audiences and after-coverage.
It’ll be interesting to see how much this knocks him down.
Calvin Coolidge (a favorite of Ronald Reagan and mine) was on target on December 6, 1923 when he addressed Congress with these words -- as relevant today (if not even more) than it was then:
"American institutions rest solely on good citizenship. They were created by people who had a background of self-government. New arrivals should be limited to our capacity to absorb them into the ranks of good citizenship. America must be kept American. For this purpose it is necessary to continue a policy of restricted immigration. It would be well to make such immigration of a selective nature with some inspection at the source, and based either on a prior census or upon the record of naturalization. Either method would insure the admission of those with the largest capacity and best intention of becoming citizens. Those who do not want to be partakers of the American spirit ought not to settle in America.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, mere documentation alone doesn't imply assimilation.
“Perry has done all he can as Governor to secure the border at a cost of $400 million from Texas taxpayers. He has admitted the heartless comment was stupid and has gone around the country with I’m sorrys for everyone. Secure the border, punish the employers and this problem will take care of it’s self. Enforce the damn laws we have and put boots on the borders!”
The $400M was over a decade, and it involved relocating a couple of hundred Texas Rangers. The REAL STUFF did not happen in Texas, as all us Texans know that cannot even go into a Home Depot and read the labels anymore (ok, I exaggerate a bit, but not much).
The REAL STUFF includes laws to prevent SANCTUARY CITIES, E-VERIFY, verifying legality for state services, etc. Perry has NOT done jack in those areas, which is why we have never had a problem with the federal government, like Alabama and Arizona have (i.e., states that are trying to do something to protect their people).
If we can’t deport them, then box them in sanctuary states, by passing tough proof of citizenship laws that force their migration to sanctuary states, like California, that are already overrun.
Let the sanctuary states, provide them work, food and medical care,
so the Pro-American states can ensure jobs go to legal Americans.
“Oh, ok it is only partial, nothing to see here move along.”
...you mean like 3/5s of a citizen. Let’s see how long a judge permits that stunt.
In other words, once you open the door to legalizing tens of millions of ILLEGALS, the our judges will finish the job by granting them AMNESTY and the right to vote (Democratic, of course).
That's the bigger problem. Neither party dealt with that problem after the Reagan years. Not really Reagan but Congress.
To the illegal, “Go!”
To the citizen/dependent, “you may stay, or go; if you go, you may return.”
