“I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who’ve been here for a quarter of a century … [and] separate them from their families and expel them,” Gingrich said during a discussion about illegal immigration and border security. “I do believe we should control the border. I do believe we should have very severe penalties.”

Lies. Cain has never said such a thing.
FUNG!
I would not like to see Newt in a position to take over the White house under any circumstances, but he might make a good Chief of Staff for President Cain.

...
I think Newt is being inhumane to American taxpayers and those who now have to compete with foreigners for jobs, space at the ER and welfare
Palin is close to endorsing Newt.
HEY NEWT! Yeah YOU! The Cherokee were forced to leave Georgia, and they were there FIRST. So it is only fair to forcibly remove the illegals of today.
When you do the crime, you pay the price. The price is forcible eviction for being inside the United States of America illegally. Time is not the issue, the crime is the issue.
BTW Newt, walk around our Mexican border towns at night, if you dare - - - . Maybe then you will change your mind.
Hey Newt,
What about all the Americans who have lost their jobs in the worst economy we have seen in decades.
How about being humane to Americans who will do most jobs the illegals now do.
Why do you want to protect illegal jobs at the expense of jobless Americans, who are looking for ANY JOB to provide for their family.
Stop giving them illegal jobs and free stuff, and they'll go home.
Agreed. Partial deportation is more realistic, as well as hefty penalties for employers.
But folks are looking to bludgeon Newt, so don’t expect much thoughtful debate.
Yep! Don’t want to separate them from their parents. The biggest argument to keep the whole family in the US, to not separate the children born here from their parents. Ok, we don’t separate them. Send them all back to the hell hole their parents came from and allow them (the children) to come back when they are old enough to leave there.
Many illegals come to this country pregnant just so they can stay because their child is born here, get rid of that incentive and some of the illegal problems might be solved.

Call me crazy but I couldn’t do that to families either and I’m no Gingrich supporter. I don’t think it’s a magnet either because he’s talking about grandfathering these people in not that we would allow newcomers to stay.
I haven’t always believed this way. I just think that this country has always been about both justice AND mercy. It’s easy to be angry with them for sneaking into our country and using up our resources, I know that. However, if they have helped this country and have been good people here and have made a life and love this country I think we can work with them going through the citizen process.
What else need be said? Newt? Nyet!
“Nute, we don’t have to hunt them down and deport them.
Stop giving them illegal jobs and free stuff, and they’ll go home.”
Great point. How sad that so many freepers promote the strawman that “You can’t round them all up...ITS IMPOSSIBLE!” as if that was the only option.
As Jim says FUNG! You REALLY stepped into it tonight!
California is gone and will NEVER COME BACK.
See tagline. It’s a quote from Herman Cain saying exactly that.
“I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people whove been here for a quarter of a century [and] separate them from their families and expel them,
That’s why you deport the whole famn damily, Dipwad.
OK. He’s soooooooo done. Perry.....now Ginny.
Wow! Looks like the DAR is racist! Not one clap for Cain! I am glad I never joined them, or the Colonisl Dames, though I am eligible on both sides of my family! A bunch of phony fluff after all!
I am befuddled now...Newt shoots self in foot. Perry’s dream act. Herman who thinks Cuban is a language. Michelle falling in the polls. Santorum is not catching on. Romney, the master of flip flops. Is there anyone left standing to trump ozero?
I could do it. I’d have fun doing it. My family (grandparents) came into this country LEGALLY, and it took many years to actually accomplish. Newt’s whole 25 years thing is nonsense. Just a smokescreen. No way you can actually say “25” years, YOU stay, 24 years, YOU GO. He said we should deport people who came in “recently”, so how recent is recent? He said we shouldn’t “tear apart families”. So, have a kid, and you’re golden? It’s ridiculous. So basically my family has to go through the paperwork and trouble to come in LEGALLY for years, but come in illegally, join a church (Newt didn’t say which denomination though), have a kid, and BOOM, compassionate Newty will overlook our crime. This standard would legalize millions of illegals who happened to have anchor babies.
Ooooh man. I never thought Newt would step on it this bad. I thought he had the whole “speak the conservaative language” strategy all setup. Guess not.
Newt did specify that he would seal the boarders before he did anything else. And he said he would deport the new illegal aliens. I don’t agree with the amnesty for all, but I don’t think he will ever get that far. Who the heck are we going to support????? Immigrants that get their medical degrees here, should be required to stay here for a certain number of years.
would it be “heartless” not to?
Well said. Newt's book title: "Drill Here, Drill Now". My book title, "Deport Now, Deport All!". The illegals swarming all over our once beautiful Texas need to be gone lest we become like California.
What about being humane to the millions of Americans who have lost their jobs in the worst economy we have seen in decades?
These jobless Americans will do almost any job these illegals are doing now to survive this tough economy.
Why is Newt protecting the jobs of the these illegals, at the expense of jobless Americans?
Where’s the compassion for legal Americans?
Get me a link. I’ve never heard such a thing. He came out in favor of Arizona’s immigration law tonight.
You do understand that any candidate for President who took this position would never be elected. Ever. It’s a total non-starter.
For the most part, all candidates except Bachmann have essentially the same position on illegal immigration, and Bachmann is walking dead.
1. No deportation of most illegals
2. Some legal documentation to get illegals on the record.
3. Border security.
4. Non-return paths to citizenship.
That’s as good as it going to get.
There is only one answer.
I hope that she is listening.
Newt pulled the plug on his own campaign tonight, and then wimped out afterwards by trying to shuffle his idea off on the “Foundation” he mentioned. It’s over. Watch as his poll numbers tank from tomorrow into Iowa.
So long, thanks for playing...Have a seat over there with La Raza Rick after trying the reverse of heartless; dick.
What part of ILLEGAL don't these assholes UNDERSTAND?
GET.RID.OF.THEM! Its not my or any other LEGAL citizen's fault they made the decisions they did in breaking our laws. I have no sympathy and only wish them GONE so LEGAL Americans can get some work and tax dollars are no longer spent on this insanity.
Enforce our southern border like Mexico does theirs.
That certainly in the correct palm to forehead photo to use. Newt always shoots himself (in the head!!!). Might make a good Secretary of State, tho.
These jackassess never understand nor do they want to do the right thing. We don’t want them, Newt. What don’t you understand?
Well, in a way I’m glad Newt revealed his rather wimpy stance on this issue, which I’d always suspected. It was already a rather noxious task trying to figure if there was ‘some’ way I could support him without having to contort my entire value-system. His beltway/insider/lobbyist status rankled my Tea Party sensibilities; His sleazy personal life made me want to retch; And his history of bizarrely bad judgment calls tended to overshadow his admittedly positive accomplishments.
With his weak amnesty stance, at least it seems I can just cleanly close the book on Gingrich once and for all. And I’m really saying this without any gratuitous ire towards him. In fact, there’s a lot I actually like about him, and his presence in the race has been a beneficial one. I have great memories of him back on CSPAN in the 1980s, and the ‘94 election was a truly stunning feather in his cap. But the whole notion of supporting him for the presidency? Nope, afraid not. I just don’t have a lick of trust in him.
Gingrish is still OK with me
The problem with immigration is that we have not been enforcing it for 40 years
And so we have whole families that are illegal, but have never lived in Mexico.
To suddenly start enforcing a law we have let politicians ignore is GOING TO cause some problems
First and foremost- CUT OFF THE MIGRATION- lock down the border- then we figure out what to do with those that are here
Okay, so there are conservatives who are actually faulting Cain on the Cuban language thing? Woah! Okay. Logical.
Newt, their families go with them and everyone is happy to be obeying the law.
I am sick and tired of being accused of not having compassion, because I don’t believe in rewarding illegal activity.
Are you on a phone or some other mobile device?
bump
People tend to think that Cain is stupid while Newt is a genius.
Well maybe that’s wrong. One would think that a ‘genius’ would be smart enough not to anger the voters he needs BEFORE winning the primary, while someone ‘stupid’ would anger voters he needs.
So while we may cringe when Cain says stuff that makes us think he doesn’t have all of foreign policy figured out, we sure as heck know that he RESPECTS us, and does not feel a need to ‘educate’ us (regarding Illegal Immigration, in particular) as Newt and Perry are certainly trying to do.
No matter who is elected, there will be some sort of amnesty as with Reagan. The question will be how to prevent or deal with future illegals.
How can they be illegal if they’ve never been in Mexico?
If they were born here, right now, they are considered US citizens.
Another amnesty?
Agree. I've opened my wallet to the Cain campaign recently... I have watched the newtster crawl to the front recently and even though he has talked a good game, I just don't trust him.
This immigration stance has closed the door on his run in my book.
I don’t know how I can in good conscience vote for any GOP candidate who is an illegal lover. Cain and Bachmann seem to be the only candidates steadfastly opposed to the illegals and opposed to amnesty.
An idealistic view: Collect them all up, put them in buses and send them home.
Realistic view: That’s just never going to happen.
Better to close the border, enforce the laws already on the books, remove the incentives for coming here, and allow the numbers to fall via attrition.
