Occupy Wall Street has now dragged into its third month. What should be a matter of enforcing existing laws has turned into an intractable political problem.
But we should look to the federal government and its illustrious current and former leadership for inspiration on how to handle such situations. They have plenty of experience in not enforcing existing laws and then proposing ways to deal with that lack of enforcement.
It's just plain inhumane to tear down the OWS encampments in the bitter cold of November just because they are occupying public spaces and causing noise and sanitation problems. Some of those tents might have kids in them.
It's inhumane to load the OWS protesters into paddy wagons and take them downtown to jail. No one should be calling for such forced removal in this country, and the public will never support such.
No, what we need is visionary leadership for this problem. We need a sense of humanity!
But not for all OWS protestors, mind you! Lawbreakers should still go to jail! If you are caught selling drugs or murdering someone, you should still face the music of the legal system. Likewise, if you have just joined in the protests, you should be removed - only those who have been there for over a month should be allowed to stay! We should not encourage more encampments by allowing all to stay - only those who have put down roots in their local parks.
But imagine the benefits of such a humane approach - if conservatives come out in support of such a proposal, the GOP might win over those who are sympathetic to OWS's viewpoints. Plus, no more videos of pepper-sprayed protestors. Less police overtime. So what if those who live by the encampments have to deal with them? It's the price of tolerance.
I submit, if humanity is good enough for illegals, it's good enough for OWS. The solution to failure is never to correct the reason for the failure. It's the DC way.
I favor releasing feral pittbulls on them.

I've started watching a Saturday night, grade z (the worst of the worst) "monster" tv program in the last few months.

I find the business of turning out folks into the cold to be something of a red herring.
If a trail of gasoline were dribbled all about through the encampment and lit, the folks would be turned out into the warmth of the fire. The cold would cease to be the problem
Well, the OWS are the other guys, and they are telling us of the agony they are in every day from people engaging in commerce not dictated by government mandate, or even worse the horror that they must coexist with others who have accumulated great wealth.
Truly no one has ever suffered as OWS protesters suffer, and euthanasia is really the kind thing to do.

That said, I don't endorse calling out the Ohio National Guard, but riot teams arresting and removing these anarchists is just fine - in fact, a prime function of government. Should the lefties react violently, record everything and use whatever force is necessary to quell the resistance to peaceful arrest and removal.
Now, if that doesn't ring your humanity bell, how about child protection taking the kids out of documented situations of violence and hazardous behavior. Then, seal the camp off - nothing in or out. As the protesters succumb, remove them only after signing documents that agree to return home and to cease similar actions. Those that remain, after their food and fuel run out, will have the peaceful calm of a long winter rest to reflect.

I agree. But then that would mean almost ALL OWS protesters would be taken to jail because almost all of them are camping on public lands where overnight camping is illegal.
