Gingrich Tells Newsmax: No Amnesty, No Citizenship
Newsmax ^ | 11-24-2011 | Staff

snips:

...."But "there is no path to citizenship in my Tuesday night comment on immigration," Gingrich told Newsmax. "There is a path to non-deportation for certified, very long-term community members but they would not have the right to vote."

The goal of his plan, Gingrich said, is to gain control of the border in 12 months while ensuring that English is the official language of the U.S. government. He wants even faster rules for the deportation of criminals and a guest worker program "outsourced to American Express, Visa or MasterCard to minimize fraud..."

Horse sh**! It would only be a matter of time before the dimwits passed a law giving them the right to vote by giving them full citizenship. This way leads only to more illegals swarming over the border in the hopes they will become "long term illegals with families".

This is amnesty pure and simple and this guy should not be elected President. We already have enough government officials unwilling to enforce immigration laws, we don't need another one.

Not sustainable. Will only last as long as it takes for the first lawsuit to hit the courts.

Gingrich, like some very smart people I've met in my life, can make gargantuan mistakes from time to time.

Just think of Steve Jobs. Dead today because he wanted to pursue a Buddist approach to dealing with his pancreatic cancer. Wrong.

It sounds like Gingrich is proposing a work permit program that enables illegals to stick around forever without ever being eligible for naturalization. The problem with such a program is that we don’t need it, and these workers are having children who automatically become American citizens. All we need to do is step up enforcement, and pass new legislation imposing prison terms and felony convictions for employers who knowingly hire illegals, and they will leave the country of their own accord, at no cost to the taxpayer except for the cost of hiring additional immigration agents.

We need a straight-talking candidate, not one spewing the same old DC weasel words.

-—”Not sustainable. Will only last as long as it takes for the first lawsuit to hit the courts”-—

Well, that pretty much ends any hope of making future Conservative legislation, buy your logic. That’s why you work for a SCOTUS majority.

But I’m sure politicians would keep tax rates at 9-9-9 forever, though, right? As long as we’re talking “not sustainable.”

Just think of Steve Jobs. Dead today because he wanted to pursue a Buddist approach to dealing with his pancreatic cancer. Wrong.

According to the American Cancer Society, for all stages of pancreatic cancer combined, the one-year relative survival rate is 20%, and the five-year rate is 4%.

But you go ahead and blame Jobs if it makes you feel superior.

We used to have a formal guest worker program in this country and it was quite successful. There really are jobs Americans won’t do, or jobs that are located so far from population centers that US citizens aren’t going to get them. (An unemployed inner-city person is not going to move to the vegetable fields of California to get a $7-an-hour job.)

Nothing wrong with bringing in some foreign people to harvest crops on a temporary, non-exploitative basis, then sending them home when the season is over. No “coyotes”, gangs, etc., no holding them prisoner in miserable camps, no pregnant women, no kids. Preference in jobs given to US citizens if any apply for them. The brasero program used to bring in men to work seasonally, then sent them back. We did this when I was a kid and it worked out well for everybody.

I have no tolerance at all for illegals, but I sympathize with kids who were brought here by their parents and grew up here. There ought to be a path to citizenship for them. If they do some service—military service, or some civilian service opportunity for girls, for those guys who don’t qualify for military service on medical grounds, or for the specially talented. If they prove they’re devoted enough to this country to give of themselves in order to become citizens, then they should have the chance to apply for citizenship.

That's my primary objective with the sales tax component of 9-9-9, and why I think it's not a good idea overall.

So tell us again how a guest worker program is a good idea in this economy with millions unemployed. And how 'path to non-deportation' is not a complete Orwellian abuse of basic logic.

The left love throwing out the unrelated question of what to do about people who have been living here forty or fifty years and have raised families. It's like the abortion question of what to do about the mother who gets an abortion after we make it illegal.

The realistic answer for elected officials asked about illegal aliens should be; "We need to get control of our borders first. It does no good to talk about people living here now when anyone in Mexico can acquire that status tomorrow. Once we gain control of our borders then we can talk about all the other implications and permutations of illegal immigration."

Well like it or not there has to be a start in getting illegals out of here and nobody else has offered a doable plan. Further, the idea that "In time" a law being passed giving them citzenship would take years just as even getting congress to move on ANY plan has been so.

I say it's well worth getting those out of here that Newt's plan would definately boot....the remainders can be delt with just as Newt's plan details.

Additionally, there could be implimented within the plan that those who accept "legality" forfeit their right to become a citizen because that's the deal for coming here illegally in the first place.....if they don't agree then they go home and apply for citizenship according to the laws established to come into this country.

Uhh... sorry, but you didn't do your homework, and so you've made yourself look like a bone-head. Ho hum.

"Only 4 percent of the 44,000 patients diagnosed every year with pancreatic cancer survive for five years after their diagnosis, but Jobs had a rarer form of the cancer -- occurring in the endocrine glands that produce insulin -- which tends to be slower growing and less aggressive."

From this source.

But I do enjoy feeling superior to you.

Basically, it sounds like Newt is carving out a niche here, where he can state that he isn’t going to “split up families” but that his plan will ultimately only allow a small number of illegals to truly “qualify” for this non-citizen non-amnesty plan.

I like it, if it can work. If those in question wish to become citizens, they can prove it by returning to their country of origin and restarting the process.

I think it’s high time we distinguish between the two types of immigrants (not illegal vs legal):

Those who wish to be Americans

Those who do not

Illegal immigration is not a simple problem, so the answers are not simple.

That's what the DC types want to have us believe.

The solution actually is simple - enforce the laws on the books, crack down hard on employers hiring illegal aliens, and eliminate bennies for illegals.

They will self-deport in droves.

But for a DC hack like Newt, the solution to failure is never to address what has failed. There is no influence, no millions in dollars in fees and campaign contributions for peddling that influence, to be gained with that approach. Now amnesty and a guest worker program, that can be mined like the Comstock lode.

On Friday, Gingrich is expected to elaborate on his immigration policy at a campaign event in Naples, Fla.

It's a townhall meeting. Good idea to get out in front of this. But one has to wonder why Florida vs. Iowa at this point in time. Seems the most critical fire to put out would be in Iowa, especially while the social conservatives there are at this very moment trying to determine their Not Romney candidate to rally behind.

Did you know that we have 30 million long term illegal residents? The amnesty is completely unworkable. The long term period will be defined so that almost all illegals qualify. The small group not eligible will produce phony documents. Leftist groups will strangle the courts with lawsuits. Compliant judges will issue injunctions to stop enforcement of deportations. Even if Gringrich wants a small amnesty, it will become a major amnesty dwarfing all other amnesties.

We do not need any law changes. We really do not need any more border enforcement although I support more physical barriers and perhasp some additional border resources. We need to enforce existing laws including stopping benefits for illegal aliens. We need an administration that will enforce existing laws and cooperate with states instead of suing them. Cutoff health care, tax credits, housing assistance, and many other forms of welfare.

Leniency can be granted for long term illegals with family through the deportation process. Individuals subject to deportation could provide evidence for amnesty. The burden of proof would be entirely on the detainee. There would not be any general processing of illegals. The deportation process would have a little flexibility to deal with long-term illegals. Conditions could be attached to limit the amnesty add more requirements.

Congress can make citizens out of anybody they want any time they want. The president only has the power to enforce the laws that Congress passes. He has no power to give "amnesty" or "citizenship" to illegal aliens.

Unless congress passes Gingrich's proposal it will never go into effect.

Bush was 100% for Amnesty including citizenship. Gingrich is totally against giving any illegal alien citizenship... EVER!

Bush's plan never went into effect because Congress never passed it.

Obama is giving illegal aliens de-facto citizenship by not enforcing the immigration laws on the books and by not enforcing the election laws against illegal aliens that are voting.

We need to get rid of Obama. Shooting down Gingrich on this just issue simply ensures that Obama gets re-elected.
