NAPLES, FL -- Presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich defended his immigration policy after days of criticism from other GOP contenders reiterating that he does not support amnesty -- on Friday night before his largest crowd yet on the campaign trail.
"I am not for amnesty for anyone. I am not for a path to citizenship for anybody who got here illegally," Gingrich told the crowd of roughly 750 people, many of whom were forced to stand in the hallway...........
"I think the vast majority [of illegal immigrants] will go home and should go home and then should reapply. I do not think anybody should be eligible for citizenship,".....

I regret that I pissed you off, vote for me anyway.
That sounds positively inhumane to me.

SOLUTIONS
1. Control the border.
The United States must control its border. It is a national security imperative.
Every nation has the right to control its border. Historically, every country that has been determined to control their border has been able to do so.
Controlling the border is a matter of resources and will.
As Americans, we can accomplish unimaginable feats when we have the resources and the will. The United States won World War II in 3 years and 8 months. In the 44 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States mobilized its resources to defeat Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan.
Unfortunately, we havent brought any sense of urgency to controlling our border even as a drug-fueled civil war now rages in Mexico.
In October 1986, Ronald Reagan wrote in his diary that he was signing the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration reform bill because it was high time we regained control of our borders & this bill will do this.”
Today, a quarter century later, we still have not achieved President Reagans goal and expectation.
This bill will waive every obstacle to controlling the border and would shift resources to achieve virtually 100% control by January 1, 2014. If necessary, we would move one-half of the 23,000 Washington-area Department of Homeland Security bureaucrats to the Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona borders.
A border control strategy must be responsive to the unique threats that exist at different parts of the frontier. This strategy must include round-the-clock drone flights to monitor activity, multi-layer, strategic fencing in urban areas, and vastly improved communication between state and federal authorities.
That sounds like a flip flop to me.
Newt is delusional. And unelectable.
Too late Newt.
Your train has left the station, and you ripped up your ticket.
Because, in his mind, “amnesty” is only giving them citizenship, and not forgiving their crimes against the United States (and whoever they committed identity fraud against).
“I am not for amnesty for anyone. I am not for a path to citizenship for anybody who got here illegally,” Gingrich told the crowd of roughly 750 people”
Unfortunately Newt only gets to use the Solicitor General to make his case to the Supreme Court, and that’s only if he’s still president. The Court gets the final word, once these people are legalized.
...and believe me, if the Court can find abortion in the Constitution, they can EASILY find voting rights for people that are (now) legally living here and working here, and will be staying permanently.
Why am I getting flashbacks of McCain? Stop the nightmares, FReepers. Stop the nightmares!
:-)
Is he saying ALL illegal aliens in the US to go home, get in line like the rest of the world and take a number?
Is this a flip-flop? I swear I heard something come out of his mouth that was a bit different a short time ago.
It is called a ‘walk back’ in the biz. Or. ‘Damage Control’ . He huddled. Internals freaked them. Too late, cat is out of the bag.
Yeah right, he already revealed his support for Amnewtsty.
Come up with a plan to deport all the parasites...then I’ll pay attention.
What? Deport young people who are more likely to have young families? How inhumane? Keep the old farts with 25 years of illegal living, who no longer have young children to raise, but throw out fathers or mothers of young anchor babies?
Newt has no heart!
Truly heartless. /s
-—”Come up with a plan to deport all the parasites...then Ill pay attention.”-—
But what would we do without Hollyweird in CA?
Truly heartless. /s
“That sounds positively inhumane to me.”
Yeah...he must think we are better than this...
Newt has more baggage than what the cargo hold of the QE2 can accommodate. If Gingrich is the Republican nominee this is the surest ticket to an Obama landslide.
I’ve got it now: those here can become ‘legalized’, then they take a trip home to see old friends and put their names in line to become citizens. Back in the US to pick up where they left off, they merely wait for their new citizenship to take effect.
I agree. Cain is definitely the best candidate against Obama. He takes away 1/3 of the black vote, the race is over before it even starts. Hell, even 1/5 would probably be more than enough to crush Barry.
Yet, conservatives are leaving him en masse...and why? For a bunch of media manufactured sexual harassment “slander”? Really disappointed in my fellow conservatives, especially when they’re flocking to NEWT of all people. Hello? Scozzafava? Pelosi couch?
Over on the “we love newt” post they are putting a brave face on it.If the polls dont show him dropping like a stone then the polls are cooked.I hope it blows up on them.
Which came first? The flip, or the flop? I'm losing track.
Not at all. Perfectly inline with the debate stance. No path to citizenship for illegals here now, just legal residence without the vote. As soon as Newt stated his position at the debate, Bachmann immediately branded it as Amnesty for everyone. Replay the debate to see. Also most people didn't hear that Newt's plan starts with sealing our border.
This isn't the only issue Gingrich has going against him either. He was supporting an extremely liberal RINO in Dede Scozzafava in 2009 when Conservatives like Sarah Palin, and Fred Thompson were supporting the Conservative party candidate Doug Hoffman. Gingrich was supporting the unelectable third place liberal along with those queer liberals who like to call themselves Republicans for some reason, “the log cabin republicans”. That's good company.
Anyway, the democrat candidate won a close race against the Conservative candidate after Newts liberal candidate dropped out, and then endorsed the democrat candidate. It didn't surprise anyone who knew how liberal she was, but she apparently fooled the brilliant Gingrich who somehow saw something beneficial in having an extreme liberal, even compared to other RINO’s, in Congress to begin with.
Not a change. You must have missed the debate. Lots of misinformation out there.
You’re not getting it. Even if he isn’t giving them citizenship, it’s still amnesty. He’s just playing with words here, treating us like we’re stupid.
I’m there.
They will never seal the border.
So did Reagan’s plan, seal the border. Never happened. One of the biggest regrets he ever had.
Newt has now flip flopped on the issue.
He knows his goose was cooked when he opened his mouth and actually said something liberal and pissed off the base just like Perry.
Newt is not as bright as his supporters say he is.
I guess a $5000 fine is insufficient for you. That's what Newt proposed.
It was just a matter of time before he said something liberal that he really believed, and destroyed his campaign. He has a history of doing just that.
Freepers have truly jumped the shark if they support newt.
I will never vote for Gingrich.
So much comes out of newt’s mouth even he cannot keep up with it all....
Wow...750 people. Realize that if Palin showed up unannounced in Podunk, IA she’d draw a crowd of 5,000 within an hour...
Get real on this “it’s not amnesty” kick.
Do you really think that if Gingrich got his wish to legalize the illegals but not give them citizenship, there would not be an immediate push to then make them citizens, because, after all, how can you deny 20 million plus residents the right to vote?
Every eight years a new democrat president is elected and lately, every few years a democrat Congress majority is elected. These “resident aliens” would be made citizens by that democrat president on his way home from the inauguration.
Sorry, but your boy Gingrich just committed suicide by stupidity. He has shown himself clueless on the nature and extent of the illegal alien problem. He has also shown that like Eric Holder, the rule of laws means nothing, and laws are just matters of convenience subject to the pandering needs of the day.
Newt had already revealed his true pandering self with his dismissal of the Tea Party objection to Obamacare with his “I don’t think right wing social engineering is any more desirable than left wing social engineering. I don’t think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate.”
His desire for amnesty fits the pattern. Newt is a falling star.
I've known people like that. Too smart to have a lick of common sense, and they make up for their flip-flops by trying to bury you in words.
It's pretty sad to see that the liberal Republican establishment think we are all heartless and inhumane people. Those are serious charges, and it shows why illegal immigration is completely ignored by these liars. They don't understand they aren't gaining support from Hispanics with their pandering, and don't seem to understand there is a difference between legal, and illegal Hispanics, and that supporting the illegal ones doesn't give you support from the legal Hispanics who wouldn't have voted for you otherwise. My best friend is third generation from Mexico, and has nothing in common with illegal immigrants, and doesn't support them.
The display of vile hatred using filthy language towards those in our own party is dramatic. You'd think this place is DU.
A pardon? I suppose if you think a $5000 penalty is amnesty.
English Machine Translation: "Des Moines. After the head position preference in the presidential campaign Republican, Newt Gingrich is now facing a possible backlash from conservative activists, after proposing an immigration reform that he called "humane", but quickly denounced his opponents as an "amnesty.""
