CNN host Piers Morgan spoke with Gabrielle Giffords‘s husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, on Wednesday and discussed Sarah Palin‘s controversial crosshair map, which targeted the Congresswoman’s district. Kelly wrote in a new book that the former Alaska governor never reached out to them. “We were never contacted by her,” Kelly said.
“I find that extraordinary,” Morgan exclaimed.
“Yeah, I was surprised too,” Kelly replied. “You know, certainly the targets that she put over Gabby’s and other people’s districts, in our opinion, was not the right thing to do. She is not the first person to do that. And it hasn’t always been Republicans that have done that.”
“Some interesting insights in the book into who, you know, walked to the plate and who didn’t, really, in terms of political colleagues and people that she had worked for and against. Sarah Palin doesn’t come out of this very well, I don’t think, because there was a woman who at the time had been putting these cross hair things on her website and stuff, including Gabby,” Morgan observed. “And in her haste to take responsibility didn’t even bother to pick the phone up, to write, do anything.”
“I liked your line about it, which is if you had had the chance to talk to her, and you were expecting to, you weren’t going to say that you were responsible,” Morgan pointed out. “But you were going to say, you’ve been irresponsible.”
“Yeah, that’s my plan. You know, this was no surprise to us. Gabby even spoke about it before January 8th, during the election cycle, leading up to the election, in an interview. I think it might have been on MSNBC or some other — another cable news network. She made is very clear that, hey, this is what’s going on, and this could ultimately incite people to do violent things. So it wasn’t a big surprise on January 8th that — you know, that we — you know, where we knew this map existed with the cross-hairs on it. Now, having said that, you know, Sarah Palin certainly is not responsible for what happened. But I think the angry rhetoric in an election year is not — it’s not helpful.”

He was grabbing headlines, because the one thing a narcissistic jerk wants more than a big ride is everybody noticing his big ride. He used his wife's injury to get attention for himself.

Sarah had nothing at all to do with the shooting. But thereafter her name was connected to it for false reasons. She was a public figure. If I were her, I would have privately written them a letter adding giffords to sarah’s prayer list, etc. I’m not saying Sarah had to but it would have been something I would do. Same thing if I were Jody foster after reagan’s shooting.
That seems to certainly be the case today for a sizable number of them. They need to emulate Neil Armstrong in retirement.

If that had leaked out (and it would have) the left would run with it as Palin admitting guilt. That's how it works today.
Astronauts nowadays are not the same as the ones from the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs. The present day Space Shuttle was flown almost entirely by a computer. A Space Shuttle crew would train for years for one mission, and still they usually messed something up (i.e., launch a satellite into the wrong orbit or lose the tool bag while on a space walk). While astronauts used to be heroes, they are now just some experiment in diversity training.

I definitely don’t think Sarah needs to call him, but I think the real villain of the story is Piers Morgan. I do believe that Mark stuck up for Sarah. However, Piers was trying to get him to blame Sarah. Sorry but I can’t stand Piers Morgan AT ALL!!!!!

Palin received TENS of THOUSANDS of death-threats to her and her family in the wake of the media trying to pin complicity in the Arizona mass-murder to her.
For 24/7, the news-channels ran juxtaposing imagery of Giffords’ picture, blood on the parking-lot pavement, the school-photo of the murdered 9-year-old girl, and file-footage of Sarah Palin walking on stage at a rally. Over and over again. For days. Deliberately drawing a connection where there was none. The most vile depths I’ve ever seen the media sink. That kind of juxtaposition was reminiscent of what you see in old propaganda films, like the Nazi ones where they show film footage of rats scurrying around garbage-cans, interspersed with footage of Jews and Jewish businesses. Absolute evil, the way the media behaved.
For Kelly to continue on with this proves he’s a total, worthless dirtbag.

How come Giffords husband was interviewed instead of Giffords? Is it because she is demented from the shooting?

When someone is innocent of any wrongdoing, it is not incumbent upon them to apologize for anything.
In Sarah’s case, the media would have portrayed any contact from her as pandering. No point to it.

I used to live in Gifford's district. The correct solution would be to for the government to offer some form of assistance towards her recovery. If and when that happens, I have no doubt she would be elected to office in a landslide. In the meantime, what good is a politician who can't make speeches?
