An End to Illegal Immigration
Townhall.com ^ | November 27, 2011 | Mark Baisley

Posted on 11/27/2011 7:24:27 AM PST by Kaslin

At the Republican presidential debate last week (you remember; the one moderated by that bearded guy named “Blitz”), Newt Gingrich stirred up some controversy in his discussion on immigration.

From my perspective as someone who spent a weekend as an illegal alien in 1980, this segment of the debate was of particular interest.  I don’t have the editorial space to go into it here, but if you buy the Shiraz (preferably pre-2007 and corked rather than screw cap), I will recount my perilous adventure into the African nation of Swaziland without the permission of the Kingdom.

Speaker Gingrich’s passing comment on the Red Card program caught my attention, “I think you’ve got to deal with this as a comprehensive approach that starts with control of the border as the Governor (Rick Perry) said.  I believe, ultimately, that ... once you’ve put every piece in place, which includes a guest worker program, you need something like a World War II selective service ward that frankly reviews the people who are here.  If you’ve come here recently, you have no ties to this country, you ought to go home, period.  If you’ve been here 25 years and you have three kids and two grandkids, you’ve been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church, I don’t think we’re going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out.  The Krieble Foundation has a very good Red Card program that says you get to be legal, but you don’t get a pass to citizenship.  And so there is a way to ultimately end up with a country where there’s no more illegality and you haven’t automatically given amnesty to anyone.”

The Krieble Foundation is named for Professor Vernon K. Krieble "to further democratic capitalism and to preserve and promote a society of free, educated, healthy and creative individuals."  Professor Krieble’s daughter, Helen Krieble, is the President of the foundation.  I have had the pleasure of speaking with Ms. Krieble on several occasions and know her to be a thoughtful and benevolent defender of America’s founding principles.

At a speech to the Heritage Foundation in 2005, Helen Krieble related her personal story of dealing with the onerous bureaucracy of hiring temporary immigrants, “It is so hard to come in legally, it is almost unimaginable.  And certainly I have a lot of experience with it because I do use guest workers in my business.  And it is a nightmare.”  After standing in line at the consulate, outdoors in the sun for eight hours, Ms. Krieble was returned to the end of the line for having folded the application paperwork incorrectly.

Helen Krieble hires about ten guest workers each year to accomplish the messier tasks of her equestrian sports business.  And, she does so within the rules.  Of course, many American employers and millions of immigrants do not have the patience for the politically charged Ministry of Malarkey that substitutes for an immigration policy.

We all know the realities; stolen Social Security Numbers, unfair competition, cash payments that avoid taxation, abuse of social services and an imposition on our culture.  So as a compliant employer and president of a conservative think tank, Ms. Krieble brings a credible perspective that has garnered the appreciation of the “smartest presidential candidate.”

The Red Card Program first considers that guest workers are wholly different from immigrants, that they would have no preference for citizenship and their children born in the United States would not be citizens.  Guest workers would be required to hold a “Red Card” that specifically describe the location, employer and job for which the card is issued, along with the duration and personal information about the worker, including biometric data.

Some highlights from the Red Card Program are quoted here:

The Krieble Foundation contends that once there is a gate, the only folks illegally jumping the fence will be drug traffickers and terrorists.  Today, migrant workers, drug traffickers and terrorists all jump the fence together.

The Red Card Program is available online at:
http://www.krieble.org/Websites/krieble/Images/files/Red%20Card%20Solution%20White%20Paper.pdf

So here is how I see it: We conservatives need to engineer workable solutions to social challenges before liberals beat us to the punch with unsustainable and oppressive programs like Obamacare.  This Red Card program, if instituted wholly, would be an enormous improvement over the current fiasco.

Once in this country the illegals are NOT going back to the hell hole from whence they came, period! Many illegals already have several alias. They would never be apprehended. How about employing the tens of millions Americans that are out of work. In addition any form of ‘path to citizenship’ would be a disaster. Many of these programs would allow up to 18 ‘relatives’ of the illegal to come into this country. Where would it stop.

Democrats are like trial lawyers, they want to import this third world ignorant and naive populace because they are more easily fooled than those that are educated.

Last night, I witnessed one FReeper refer to another FReeper as a member of the KKK based only on his stand to deport all illegals.

Geez...another lie!!! I made the statement of where the poster got his information...."from the KKK".

Get your facts straight before you start with the malicious lies!!! As a "momtothree" you certainly do not present a very good example to your children with the lies.

If the only law an illegal has broken in a couple of decades or more was coming here a couple of decades or more ago AND they've been good, established, law abiding, tax paying members of the community ever since, then figure out a way to make them pay for breaking the law decades ago and leave them be.

Those people have shown by how they have lived their lives that they are worthy enough to be here, but they are the only exception.

By all means, use every legal pressure (follow the law!) available to make all those here illegally self deport and most certainly will. And if they don't, follow the law and make it happen for them.

However, there needs to be some option for those who fit the above criteria, but do NOT grant any of them amnesty and give them citizenship and thus reward them for what they've done.

Instead, perhaps they could earn a limited citizenship, something like that of convicted felons who have served their sentence?

But, as much as we might like to do it, rounding them all up and automatically booting them all out, no exceptions, isn't going to happen.

Number 1: You asked if he got that info from the KKK... why would a Freeper get info from the klan?

Number 2: Please don’t tell me what example to set for my children, cowboy. I raise my children just fine. I do this in an ILLEGAL INFESTED county. A county where I am sure you would sob and wring your hands if any of them were deported.

Number3: I didn’t call you out by name. You divulged yourself. Have a good day.

The Green card system is for immigrants who want to become citizen.

The Green card system is for immigrants who want to become citizen.

Not according to DHS:

"Who is a Green Card Holder (Permanent Resident)?
A Green Card holder (permanent resident) is someone who has been granted authorization to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. As proof of that status, a person is granted a permanent resident card, commonly called a "Green Card." You can become a permanent resident several different ways. Most individuals are sponsored by a family member or employer in the United States. Other individuals may become permanent residents through refugee or asylee status or other humanitarian programs. In some cases, you may be eligible to file for yourself.

There will be countless court cases that will be used by the liberal controlled judiciary to give everyone citizenship, never mind amnesty. This country is finished The oligarchy wants peasants to rule over an hey need to dilute the American population that believes in pesky things like the constitution and rights.

If Gingrich gets the nomination, I will vote for him.

However, unless most conservatives truly face up to Newt’s warts, grapple with them, and figure out ahead of time if they can live with him, I think the potential for a major cataclysm between a President Gingrich and the base is huge.

That’s exactly what neither we nor the nation need at this time. In fact, it would be a disaster in terms of being able to move forward politically on our nation’s severe problems.

Newt’s lack of conservative *instincts* (as opposed to his bodacious *intellectual* understanding of conservatism, and his somewhat less luminous articulation of conservative principles) is not going away. It’s not going to get better.

So, if a person is going to vote for the guy, it pays to figure out what you’re getting NOW rather than six months into a Gingrich administration.

It will really stink if he gets elected by conservatives and then along come a bunch of conservatives acting shocked and angry at his behavior toward them.

Dear Town Hall:

This piece needed some serious editing for run-on sentences. It took away from the author’s argument to have to sort out his syntax.

Please do not start down the same path of publishing bad or sub-par writing.

Thank you.

•The meat of this proposal is that private employment agencies (staffing companies) would be licensed and authorized to set up “Non-Citizen Worker” offices in Mexico and other countries. They would be licensed by the federal Office of Visa Services and empowered to issue “Red Cards” to applicants in their local offices. Prior to issuing the cards, the agencies would be required to run an instant background check on the applicant. These checks, much like those used for firearms sales in the U.S., would be accomplished by contact with the U.S. government and the government of the native country. Cards should not be issued to workers from countries that cannot or will not cooperate in this important respect. The goal is to ensure the cards are not issued to applicants with criminal records or those who have violated the terms of previously issued permits or visas.

This also is a weak point, potentially. One of those things that sounds neat on paper, but then it only takes a few seconds to realize the potential for massive corruption. This potential is exacerbated by the fact that the offices will be overseas and will likely depend, at least in part, on local nationals as employees.

Of course, at least this part of the process might be somewhat subject to regulation by free market forces. And there are probably ways to squeeze some of the fraud and abuse out of the process. But, we'll see.

It seems like it would be simpler and more secure to establish internet centers, where people could go and apply online to be approved as a guest worker.

Anyway, the point is there must be ways to take the "nightmare" out of the system without creating even more bureaucracy and fraud.

•Finally, workers already in the U.S. illegally would be required to leave the country, apply for and legally obtain the Red Card, after which they could return if they had employment. They would have a powerful incentive to do so if the other elements of this plan were implemented – because once legal, they would have the same rights as any worker: minimum wage, health insurance and other benefits, decent working conditions, and the protections of the legal system.

"Finally, workers already in the U.S. illegally would be required to leave the country, apply for and legally obtain the Red Card" -- unless they've been here a sympathetically long time (actual time period subject to revision), have children and grandchildren, and go to church?

These schemes just never pan out we have the 86 experience to prove it. If it were me laying it out I would get a list of all the BS visas that the State Dept is handing out, including the dangerous diversity lottery. Then start showing how we are giving away our country in the “LEGAL” system.Newt’s idea of “citizen juries” would be used (WITHOUT DOJ IN CHARGE)to choose the most productive and well-behaved among the illegal population. This subset would be rigrously screened and placed into the “diversity lottery” This would represent the final wheel spin on this program.Americans would take the illegals prescreened over the moslem haters of the West and forever lose this program in exchange. THIS WOULD ALSO BE ANNOUNCED AS THE LAST AMNESTY . Of Course the citizen juries would be deciding if these “winners” get to stay. Send the rest home and do not institute the “Last Lottery”until the border is sealed & militarized. The US Visa & EXIT PROGRAM would also be cleaned up and taken seriously.

Agree with all you said, really sorry Newt turned out to be un-conservative. I had high hopes for him. Oh well, personally I think events are going to take control and there will be little any D.C. politician can do about it.
