If the only law an illegal has broken in a couple of decades or more was coming here a couple of decades or more ago AND they've been good, established, law abiding, tax paying members of the community ever since, then figure out a way to make them pay for breaking the law decades ago and leave them be.

Those people have shown by how they have lived their lives that they are worthy enough to be here, but they are the only exception.

By all means, use every legal pressure (follow the law!) available to make all those here illegally self deport and most certainly will. And if they don't, follow the law and make it happen for them.

However, there needs to be some option for those who fit the above criteria, but do NOT grant any of them amnesty and give them citizenship and thus reward them for what they've done.

Instead, perhaps they could earn a limited citizenship, something like that of convicted felons who have served their sentence?

But, as much as we might like to do it, rounding them all up and automatically booting them all out, no exceptions, isn't going to happen.

Number 1: You asked if he got that info from the KKK... why would a Freeper get info from the klan?

Number 2: Please don’t tell me what example to set for my children, cowboy. I raise my children just fine. I do this in an ILLEGAL INFESTED county. A county where I am sure you would sob and wring your hands if any of them were deported.

Number3: I didn’t call you out by name. You divulged yourself. Have a good day.

The Green card system is for immigrants who want to become citizen.

Not according to DHS:

"Who is a Green Card Holder (Permanent Resident)?
A Green Card holder (permanent resident) is someone who has been granted authorization to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. As proof of that status, a person is granted a permanent resident card, commonly called a "Green Card." You can become a permanent resident several different ways. Most individuals are sponsored by a family member or employer in the United States. Other individuals may become permanent residents through refugee or asylee status or other humanitarian programs. In some cases, you may be eligible to file for yourself.

There will be countless court cases that will be used by the liberal controlled judiciary to give everyone citizenship, never mind amnesty. This country is finished The oligarchy wants peasants to rule over an hey need to dilute the American population that believes in pesky things like the constitution and rights.

If Gingrich gets the nomination, I will vote for him.

However, unless most conservatives truly face up to Newt’s warts, grapple with them, and figure out ahead of time if they can live with him, I think the potential for a major cataclysm between a President Gingrich and the base is huge.

That’s exactly what neither we nor the nation need at this time. In fact, it would be a disaster in terms of being able to move forward politically on our nation’s severe problems.

Newt’s lack of conservative *instincts* (as opposed to his bodacious *intellectual* understanding of conservatism, and his somewhat less luminous articulation of conservative principles) is not going away. It’s not going to get better.

So, if a person is going to vote for the guy, it pays to figure out what you’re getting NOW rather than six months into a Gingrich administration.

It will really stink if he gets elected by conservatives and then along come a bunch of conservatives acting shocked and angry at his behavior toward them.

Dear Town Hall:

This piece needed some serious editing for run-on sentences. It took away from the author’s argument to have to sort out his syntax.

Please do not start down the same path of publishing bad or sub-par writing.

Thank you.

•The meat of this proposal is that private employment agencies (staffing companies) would be licensed and authorized to set up “Non-Citizen Worker” offices in Mexico and other countries. They would be licensed by the federal Office of Visa Services and empowered to issue “Red Cards” to applicants in their local offices. Prior to issuing the cards, the agencies would be required to run an instant background check on the applicant. These checks, much like those used for firearms sales in the U.S., would be accomplished by contact with the U.S. government and the government of the native country. Cards should not be issued to workers from countries that cannot or will not cooperate in this important respect. The goal is to ensure the cards are not issued to applicants with criminal records or those who have violated the terms of previously issued permits or visas.

This also is a weak point, potentially. One of those things that sounds neat on paper, but then it only takes a few seconds to realize the potential for massive corruption. This potential is exacerbated by the fact that the offices will be overseas and will likely depend, at least in part, on local nationals as employees.

Of course, at least this part of the process might be somewhat subject to regulation by free market forces. And there are probably ways to squeeze some of the fraud and abuse out of the process. But, we'll see.

It seems like it would be simpler and more secure to establish internet centers, where people could go and apply online to be approved as a guest worker.

Anyway, the point is there must be ways to take the "nightmare" out of the system without creating even more bureaucracy and fraud.

•Finally, workers already in the U.S. illegally would be required to leave the country, apply for and legally obtain the Red Card, after which they could return if they had employment. They would have a powerful incentive to do so if the other elements of this plan were implemented – because once legal, they would have the same rights as any worker: minimum wage, health insurance and other benefits, decent working conditions, and the protections of the legal system.

"Finally, workers already in the U.S. illegally would be required to leave the country, apply for and legally obtain the Red Card" -- unless they've been here a sympathetically long time (actual time period subject to revision), have children and grandchildren, and go to church?

These schemes just never pan out we have the 86 experience to prove it. If it were me laying it out I would get a list of all the BS visas that the State Dept is handing out, including the dangerous diversity lottery. Then start showing how we are giving away our country in the “LEGAL” system.Newt’s idea of “citizen juries” would be used (WITHOUT DOJ IN CHARGE)to choose the most productive and well-behaved among the illegal population. This subset would be rigrously screened and placed into the “diversity lottery” This would represent the final wheel spin on this program.Americans would take the illegals prescreened over the moslem haters of the West and forever lose this program in exchange. THIS WOULD ALSO BE ANNOUNCED AS THE LAST AMNESTY . Of Course the citizen juries would be deciding if these “winners” get to stay. Send the rest home and do not institute the “Last Lottery”until the border is sealed & militarized. The US Visa & EXIT PROGRAM would also be cleaned up and taken seriously.

Agree with all you said, really sorry Newt turned out to be un-conservative. I had high hopes for him. Oh well, personally I think events are going to take control and there will be little any D.C. politician can do about it.
