Lawmakers Look to Rein In Their Investing (Sarah effects change, again!)
The New York Times' The Caucus ^ | November 28, 2011 | Carl Hulse

Posted on 11/28/2011 11:18:30 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The coverage was hard-hitting and shocking to some: Members of Congress received special opportunities to get in on the ground floor of stock offerings, and were actively trading in shares of companies “whose prosperity they influence and whose conduct they help to regulate.”

--snip--

Given the political environment, members of Congress appear eager to insulate themselves not only from the suggestion that they have some market advantage over average Americans but also from what they expect could become a potent campaign charge in a year when many usually safe incumbents could face a challenge.

Sarah Palin provided the contours of the political argument in an opinion article she published in The Wall Street Journal after the “60 Minutes” report, asking how “politicians who arrive in Washington, D.C., as men and women of modest means leave as millionaires?”

“The corruption isn’t confined to one political party or just a few bad apples,” she wrote. “It’s an endemic problem encompassing leadership on both sides of the aisle. It’s an entire system of public servants feathering their own nests.”(continued)

Palin has an immense talent for summarizing complex issues with a very damning and memorable phrase.

“death panels” about socialized medicine.

“use my kid as an ATM” about unsustainable government spending.

“crony capitalism” about the incestuous relationships between industry and legislators.

“blood libel” about the attempt to link a political movement and herself to the murderous acts an obviously insane LEFTIST.

My comment is that I wish she were running for the nomination for President of these United States.

I agree. She might not necessarily ‘originate’ all the phrases, but she knows just when and how to use them to focus in and pinpoint important issues, ultimately driving the discussion. Pretty much the only GOP voice with this kind of talent, breaking through the liberal media blockade. Much of the rest of the Republican Party seems lost at sea, comparatively speaking.

Sarah Palin is one of the most, if not most powerful women in the nation/world. Running for President puts a target on her back, she is more effective to create change as a private citizen/political activist. She is definitely one of the all time greats in our nation. We are blessed to have her with us, doing what she does.

Those crafty devils at CBS....they knew she was going to write that opinion piece and rushed the research, interviews, filming and editing of their piece just to beat her to the punch.

I just wish she was still our governor up here, only good one I have seen in the last 20 years.

A conservative friend mentioned that he hopes she doesn't run for senate against Begich cause she would lose. Even too many Alaskans hold her resigning against her, but me thinks it's more the negative press she has taken for so many years. The Dems luved her up here until she ran with McCain. I still like her just the same, for her accomplished record.

Since you’re the new leader of the Palinoia Posse, I’ve got a question. Do you all ride Shetland ponies or hobby horses?

Really? I'm a leader of some posse? Cool.

As to your post...if the ex-governor of Alaska had written her op-ed before the Sixty Minutes expose then you might have a reason to crow. But, as your own post explained, she followed CBS (of all entities) and jumped on their train.

The whole issue was brought up by a book written by one of Gov. Palin's advisors called "Throw Them All Out" and she has been talking about and doing something concerning political corruption for decades. Both Democrats and Republicans have gone to jail because of her work. You might want to try and keep up.

Her abbreviated history in government is well known, but you intentionally edited and then editorialized the piece to give the appearance that palin is the hard charger leading the crusade and that is just not true....as I wrote above...it was CBS of all entities that created the heat and light.

With all due respect,

Sarah Palin is a colleague of Mister Schweizer. She has been speaking out on this subject for quite some time, but her offensive really began at about the 19:00 minute mark of this speech she delivered in Iowa on Sept 3rd.

I am not a Palin, therefore I have no more insight into her thinking than anyone else at this site.

But in order to be honest, you must first watch this video, realize that Sarah Palin was calling for holding both parties accountable, and was willing to risk the disfavor of the party insiders, in order to bring this issue to the American people’s attention.

In the next week or so, Steve Bannon, Andrew Breitbart and others will be showing us much more, so stand by.

Remind me of Palin's accomplishments during the latter half of her term as governor.
