LET'S GET REAL: A Newt Gingrich Nomination Would Be A Disaster For The Republican Party
Business Insider ^ | 112811 | Michael Brendan Dougherty

Posted on 11/28/2011 12:32:23 PM PST by Fred

Newt Gingrich is now suddenly the candidate to beat Mitt Romney. And conservatives are said to be "salivating" at the chance of watching him debate President Obama.

But the truth is that a Newt Gingrich nomination would be a disaster for the Republican party: He cannot win.

And it would be a major setback to conservative causes, because Newt Gingrich tarnishes the right's ideals with his obvious corruption.

Let's take those two one at a time.

He cannot win:

The New Hampshire Union Leader credits Newt Gingrich with engineering the 1994 Republican Revolution when Republicans took their first majority in Congress in 50 years and Newt ascended to the role of Speaker.

But Gingrich deserves more credit for ship-wrecking that Revolution. Within just two years, Newt Gingrich shut-down the government and his approval rating dropped to just 25 percent. It never recovered.

By 1997, Gingrich was facing dozens of ethics charges. Although many of them were dismissed, he was fined an unprecedented $300,000 by the House Ethics Committee (still run by Republicans at the time), and admitted to giving "inaccurate, incomplete and unreliable statements were given to the committee." Newt did this precisely during a time he was trying to impeach the president for perjury.

It was Newts tactics in congress that forced Clinton to stop spending and try to balance the budget.
It is far to early to say who can or can't be elected and the people should make that choice not a tarnished news agency. After all if they really thought Newt could not be elected they would just keep their mouths shut and let that happen now wouldn't they.
Personally I can think of nothing better than a debate between Newt and Obamma without a script, without a teleprompter and more than 60 seconds to give a complete answer, Obamma would be DOA!

Very good analysis, which I tend to agree with. The question then becomes when can any Republican not be savaged and relentlessly caricatured by the corrupt MSM (in full collusion with Democrats)?

One by one, every Republican in the last 50 years has been pejoratively caricatured by the corrupt MSM together with Democrats.

Goldwater
Nixon
Ford
Reagan
Quayle
Bush (both)
Palin
Gingrich

and so on...

You mean to say you actually read Business Insider? That takes guts. Or something.

I think Perry would be our best bet. He’s more conservative than Newt and doesn’t have any real baggage they can use to sabotage him. He’s actually a great speaker and his only real flaw is his debate skills.

Of course, as we proved with his early missteps, the Republican party will be glad to disqualify him without any damaging history. We sure jumped on that one!

Funny how few people remember this historical fact.

Hilarious, this guy has it exactly backwards. It was Newt, not the media that catapulted him to the leadership, the first R house in 40 years, and the only balanced budgets ever produced by the Fedgov. And it was the MEDIA, not Newt, that put his popularity in the gutter because they had to destroy him with relentless attacks and bogus ethics charges, JUST LIKE THEY DID TO SARAH. Anybody who wants to take their side now, and use trumped up charges against one of our own, is as bad as a lying conniving leftist...

Maybe a disaster is what the Republican Party needs.

That's what a lot of people who sat out 2008 said. Well, we got one. How's that working out for you? I'd vote for a pet rock over Obama, and I think the majority of the country feels the same way.

Newt's a self-important gasbag.

He'd be a disaster as a candidate and, God help us, an even bigger disaster as President.

It’s amazing the conclusions folks jump to in this thread that if you oppose Newtie that you support Slick Willard.

Let’s make it 100% clear here that there are 4 individuals right off the bat who will not beat Zero...

Slick Willard is a lying Socialist liberal and he cannot win.

AmNewtsty is an untrustworthy prima donna phony with sky-high disapprovals and he cannot win.

La Raza Rick is a crony Capitalist phony who insulted most of the Conservative base by calling them heartless and cannot debate his way out of a paper bag and he cannot win.

Ron “Dr. Demento” Paul is an outright Libertarian with nutty views and is WAY too old to be running and he cannot win.

Who can win ? Herman Cain can. He is not a phony, big government RINO lifelong politician. People want a real leader for a change, someone from the private sector. It’s time.

Newt is the ONE PERSON RUNNING (To Repeat: The only person ACTUALLY RUNNING) that can relate his ideas to the sheeple in a way that even the massively-biased MSM can’t refute.

Try as they might to smear him, they cannot IGNORE HIM, and what he says, like they did to McCain.

“lol. Oh, then you speak RINO?”

Yes, and also French and Arabic. It helps when you can read/hear for yourself what your enemies have to say.

A persons “lilability” can be measured by their poll numbers and Newts have been rising quite well. His performance at the debates for the most part have been far better than the rest of the field and his popularity is reflecting that.

“Romney is the Dems’ pick for the Rep candidate”

Romney is also the “inside Washington” GOP pick. Anyone else would disrupt their fatcat living.

They will cream Gingrich even worse. They are both establishment GOP, but Mittens has the better cover . . . and can control his zipper.

Michael Savage shares this opinion.

his approval rating dropped to just 25 percent. It never recovered.

And why was that? He was the target of an unprecedented media campaign of vilification. Prior to Sarah Palin, no one set the commies to frothing as much as Newt did. George Lucas even named an arch-villian "Nute Gun-Ray" for Newt and Ronald Reagan (Gun-Ray=Raygun).

Romney requires a vote for a third party.....This would give the Presidency to OBAMA. Is that what you really want?
