Newt Gingrich, who not long ago was urging his fellow Republican candidates to avoid tearing one another apart in pursuit of the partys presidential nomination, took a new approach on Monday by explicitly declaring: I dont claim to be the perfect candidate; I just claim to be a lot more conservative than Mitt Romney.
With his candidacy on the rise, Mr. Gingrich opened a three-day campaign visit to South Carolina and warned Republicans to be suspicious of candidates who adopt radically different positions. It was a fresh glimpse into the sharpening tenor of the nominating fight as the first round of voting begins in five weeks.
We think there has to be a solid conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, Mr. Gingrich told WSC Radio in Charleston, S.C. Im the one candidate who can bring together national security conservatives, and economic conservatives, and social conservatives in order to make sure we have a conservative nominee.

GINGRICH GLOVES OFF
'Conservative alternative to Mitt Romney'...
'More electable than anybody else'...
Compared to Mitt Romney, Gingrich is conservative. Sadly, so would John F. Kennedy if he would compared to Slick Mitt.

Can You Spot The Pro-ILLEGAL Alien RINO?
This claim is almost a slip of the veil.
Newt is a the establishment RINO candidate that is branded to be more appealing to true conservatives.
It is all marketing/ spin.
The main difference between Mitt and Newt is that Newt does a far better job faking it with conservatives, like he does with his wives.
If he starts panting “Yes ... yes ... YES!” watch out because we are about to get screwed,
What the hell, if newt is a conservative the country is finished.
But, if Cain asked him to be his VP, would he accept?
Newt is conservative compared to Mittens. He will close the border and deal with Iran.
I’m not sure how Newt qualifies as an alternative to Romney. He is more of the same, possibly better in a dweeby way. He didn’t create Romney care, but he could have, with Hillary’s help.
Compared to commie rommie
the Newster is Ronald W. Reagan!
Like I said on another thread..I’d like Newt A LOT more if he were someone else!
The problem with Newt’s plan for a border fence is there is a revolving door every 25 miles.
LOL, yeh, and if I hit my hand with an 8-oz hammer it doesn’t hurt as much as if I hit it with a 10-oz hammer.
Let’s see.
Newt supports
- amnesty
- Global Warming scam and he pushed government regulation of everything already in the 1990s
- individual mandate in health care
- accuses Ryan of right-wing social engineering
- horribly mismanaged Congress when GOP finally gained power
He has been good in friendly debates, but given that he lost badly to John Kerry (!) in Lincoln-Douglas style debate few years ago, I’m not sure he would fare better against O either.
For me, his fanatical on your face attitude for amnesty was the final nail in the coffin. If we give up amnesty, then there is not much to do anymore. In the end, 100M illegals legalized, and even more would try to sneak in given the amnesty idea.
Any GOP nominee would be better.
I would never, in any circumstance vote for Newt. I would vote even for Paul or Romney before them. In general election, I would stay home rather than to vote that amnesty hack.

I think the “Big Guy” may be spinning in his grave.
And those seem to be the best the GOP has to offer.
Full disclosure, Cain is #1 and Newt is #2. You can not conclude that Newt is the establishment candidate just because he was in Washington for many years. Example, Newt pissed the RINOs when he fought against the Bush I tax increase (Read my lips, no new taxes (for 2 years)). He also ticked off the insiders when he instituted term limits for committee chairs (he passed this when he could not get term limits passed). It was the insiders who ran Newt out of town in 98. They could not wait to get Denny Haster in and start earmarking.
Newt is proposing many things in his contract which will piss of the insiders. The insiders will figure out Romney is only a 23% and turn to Newt. My concern is that they will the asked him to tone down in new contract to become the "acceptable to everyone" candidate and he will oblige .
That did it for me also. Amnesty is a deal killer, I don't care who the candidate is.
Fence is a stupid idea anyway. Put troops on the border with drones and satellite surveilance.

A real, triple layer fence unlike troops can't be moved tomorrow depending on the political winds, is cheaper in the long run, acts as an effective barrier to add to border patrol defenses, and sends a strong signal that we mean business.
Fences can be dug under, cut through, crashed into, blown up, you name it, they were made to be defeated. Illegals will be more afraid of armed troops than they will of any fence. Troops will also have the ability to search incoming vehicles.
Tell me why banks and White House have a fence? Would it be easier just to shoot people?
Anyway, it is unlikely that army would shoot illegals. Old-fashioned fence works very well in Israel (and Mexico has that too on its southern border). Now you can simply walk into the US (whether you are a child, old lady etc). If we have a wall, it is much easier to control the border. In San Diego area, illegal entries dropped to almost zero after the wall.
Fence works. People who claim otherwise arre amnesty frieks who use whatevery excuse possible to advance amnesty.

True on all points but it’s still a major deterrent in the way it works to supplement the border patrol’s job. From what I understand the triple layer fence in Southern California is so effective that illegals have been forced to Arizona.
As I said troops would never be permanent, they’re too expensive and would be taken out as soon another democrat or a compassionate conservative got into office.
I think Newt is unquestionably more conservative than Mitt. There is really only one issue where it appears that Mitt might be more conservative and that is immigration. But I think we all know that Mitt wont mention that issue again if he gets the GOP nomination. Also, while Newt actually does have conservative aspects to his record, Mitt doesn’t. It’s all just talk and positioning. Kind of like when Obama claims to be a centrist.
There are more conservative people in the race though their electability is definitely less. Bachmann is very conservative and speaks well but I think she comes across as crazy often. Notice how fast conservatives dropped her as soon as Perry got into the race.
Santorum would be great but he just turns people off regularly with his demeanor. During the last debate my wife asked “why does he keep yelling?”
Cain has been cramming info into his head so much you dont really know what he stands for anymore as he often gets confused (plus as he has no actual record, you don’t know what he will do when given choices in government).
Perry makes Bush look like a genius. ‘Nuff said. Huntsman is just weird. Paul would let Iranians nuke us and then sue them in the World Court.
First off, none of my banks have a fence, and second the White House fence covers one city block. Fences have their applications, but imho the entire southern border of the US is not one of them. I maintain an Isreali manufactured Yael 15 fence for my employer. The cost of replacing one sensor and PCB is almost $7000. Our fence is only 2.2 miles long, and you want to build one 1200 miles long. Trust me, if you don't monitor the fence with troops anyway, it will be defeated in short order.
It’s all about the question, “After you seal the border, what would you do with the remaining x million illegals in the US?” It’s obvious that you can’t find, round up and deport that many people, so as soon as you admit that some may have to be allowed to stay, the crazies will start screaming AMNESTY!!! in big bold letters. But trust me, if you ask Romney that question, he will have to say the same thing Newt and Michelle and Reagan said, you have to prioritize and start removing the worst and most recents offenders first.
I have a couple of ideas about illegals......
1) Make Mexico a state. Think of the positives.
or
2) Secure the borders in lock down mode. Give the current illegals two weeks to leave the US because after that no one will return to Mexico unless they are US citizens.
Old-fashion fence with patrols (just like now) is the solution that works. Let’s start with 200 miles first year (in most approriate locations) and see how it goes.
Besides, that means shovel-ready jobs.
Fence, e-verify and state initiates would largely solve the problem. That’s why amnesty hacks are in panic mode trying to prevent them.

Aye carumba.
Gingrich and Romney are Both horse shit.
Gingrich just stinks less.
If only...
Why is this so hard? Secure the border with both a fence AND troops.
New Federal law, E-verify. No pass, no work. Any employer caught NOT using the system is fined into non-existence and the CEO does 5 years hard time.
E-verify for social services.
Eventually most will deport themselves, we won’t HAVE to go find them.
Romney's a total RINO. For Newt, conservatism is more a business then a matter of conviction. Neither one has the character or integrity to be president.
That all sounds good to me...still supporting Newt, though.
I agree with you about everything, including who you’d vote for.
I like Newt on many issues. He’s stumbled on this one and I look forward to his pending recovery.
John F Kennedy was more conservative than Mitt Romney is.
JFK would be a conservative in our day.
He cut taxes, supply side. He was adamantly opposed to abortion. He was strong on national defense.
JFK would not fit in today’s democrat party.
That could mean 4 more years of BO
I would vote even for Paul or Romney before them
Romeney over Newt??
I hope not. Since I'm in a RAT controlled state and my vote for President doesn't matter, having Newt on the ticket would probably kill my support for Cain.
Depends. The 1994 Mitt Romney tried to run to the left of JFK's even more liberal younger brother Ted. But the 2007 and 2011 Mitt Romney moved considerably to the right to win nationally. Put the 1960 JFK on stage with the 2011 Romney and there's no doubt that Romney would make more conservative arguments on a whole host of issues from immigration to federal funds for education.
>> JFK would be a conservative in our day. <<
Bull. I'm tired of this argument getting repeated on FR. Even a squishy "moderate" Republicans around today don't worship the New Deal and Woodrow Wilson's "progressive" era the way Kennedy proudly touted.
>> He cut taxes <<
Obama did too, he reauthorized the Bush tax cuts. Is he a conservative?
>> He was adamantly opposed to abortion. <<
JFK had no position or record on abortion (or gay marriage or any other sick liberal contemporary cause for that matter). The federal government wasn't involved in abortion during the time JFK was in office (1948-1960) On the social issues that were around in that era (federal funds for contraceptives, support for parochial schools, etc.), the "Catholic" JFK took the liberal position and opposed his OWN church's teachings on those issues. Kinda like another modern day "JFK" from Massachusetts does (the one who married into the Heinz fortune)
>> He was strong on national defense. <<
Heard of the 'Bay of Pigs' fiasco? How about Vietnam? He was strong on national defense the way Slick Willie was "strong on national defense" when he was bombing aspirin factors in Sudan or lobbying for more action in Bosnia. Liberals are only against "waging war" when Republicans are in power. And Obama is yet more proof of that.
>> JFK would not fit in todays democrat party. <<
JFK would fit in perfectly fine, one look at the 1960 debates where he denounces the Republicans as mean-spirited, greedy, heartless "party of the rich" that want to starve kids and throw grandma in the streets -- will confirm that. He was already a big government "nanny stater", he would have happily moved left and accepted whatever trendy liberal causes today's RAT party supports, just as the rest of the scumbag Massachusetts Kennedy clan has. JFK has to be the most overrated President in history the way both right-wingers and left-wingers now slobber all over this mobbed up empty-suit who's daddy stole the election for him with dead votes in Chicago. The Camelot MYTH is just that.
