British embassy in Iran attacked by protesters

Iranian protesters broke into the British embassy compound in Tehran, tearing down the flag and looting a portrait of The Queen.

British officials said they were urgently trying to establish whereabouts of staff and the scope of the threat unleashed by the breach.

Iranian hardliners had called for a demonstration against the embassy yesterday after the country adopted a law requiring the regime to throw out the British ambassador.

Reports from the scene said that security forces had failed to secure the site as dozens of students stormed the British Embassy, bringing down the union flag and throwing documents from windows.

The students clashed with anti-riot police and chanted "the Embassy of Britain should be taken over" and "death to England."

America lost its foothold in Tehran when students stormed the "den of spies" in 1979, triggering a 444 seize in which dozens of diplomats were held captive.

“Accidents happen.”

Especially when your nuke program presents an existential threat to a tiny beleaguered nation with probably the highest average IQ on the planet.

Not good. England and Israel are really the only 2 true allies we have.

Its 1979 all over again. Great timing too, new president takes the office in around 400 days. Its like I am a teen ager all over again, a weak president, emboldened Iran and a world too scared to get their hands dirty.

Seems as though I’ve seen this play before. New cast, same script?

Its 1979 all over again ...

Recall how Iran suddenly became very cooperative when Reagan was elected? Let's pray we can find someone that's even half the leader he was. The lives of a lot of people and the future of the world could be at stake.

TEHRAN - An Iranian news agency reported that six people working at the British embassy's compound in northern Tehran had been taken hostage on Tuesday, but withdrew the report from its website minutes later with no explanation.

The semi-official Mehr news agency initially said: “Students from universities in Tehran took hostage six people working for the British embassy in Qolhak garden,” referring to the leafy compound that protesters stormed earlier on Tuesday.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Let’s see how Gordon Brown handles this.

Remember the Alamo, or in this case, Remember the Embassy.

32 years ago. The Iranians held American citizens hostage for over a year.

Here is a photo of Ahmadinejad at the embassy compound. He
