Conservatives should think twice about Newt
Washington Examiner ^ | 112911 | Editorial

Newt Gingrich's surge to the top of the Republican presidential field has some conservatives imagining the former House Speaker as the anti-Romney. Gingrich is encouraging such a view with his claim that he is "certainly more conservative" than the former Massachusetts governor. The Manchester (N.H.) Union-Leader's endorsement added to the perception of a growing "newt-mentum" to anoint Gingrich as the preferred conservative in the Republican presidential field. But there are substantial reasons why thoughtful conservatives should think very carefully before jumping on this bandwagon.

There are, for example, gaping holes in Gingrich's conservative credentials. As the American Spectator's David Catron pointed out Monday, Gingrich has long been a fan of Dr. Donald Berwick. Berwick just resigned as President Obama's director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which oversees Obamacare. Obama put Berwick there because of his professed love for Britain's socialized medicine.

Newt abandoned one of his wives as soon as he knew she had MS.

My wife has MS and I will never leave here.

Newt is a quitter in my books.

I believe we all know of the holes in Newts record.

We also know that Bachman is done, We will wait and see on Cain.

Unless Rick Santorum makes a hell of a run, and soon, we won’t be seeing him around

That leaves Newt and Romney.

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

Sure I can think twice, I can think three times, but if it comes between Romney and Newt, I go with Newt.

Nothing can be as bad as another 4 years of Obama.

Hate to tell you but if Cain flames out and Bachmann and Perry remain trailing in the low single digits, I’m going all in with Newt. Not that I like or trust him, but I really, really DISLIKE and totally DISTRUST Romney. It’ll be anyone but Romney for me.

DRAFT PALIN!!

Some of us only had to think once before saying "no, thank you".

I looked at him and rejected him. He’s not reliably conservative enough for me. And I thought that even prior to reading about the slobbery wet kiss he planted on the radical leftist rationing-for-thee-but-not-for-me Berwick.

Obama vs. Obama-Lite again. If Obama-Lite wins, are we stuck with “hope and change”?

I’ll gladly think twice about Newt, unless and until it comes down to Newt and Romney. Then it’s a no-brainer, Newt. As I’ve said before Newt is certainly not my first choice, and probably not my second or third. But in the end I could support him with a minimum amount of heartburn, something I couldn’t do for Romney.

Same. Not happy with him, but I could vote for him.
Gingrich occasionally gets it right.
Romney? No way.

It’s those independents who are going to pick the next pres. Which one do you think will do better?. Whose baggage smells of less mildew? Who will impress the morons more with silly appearances on all the idiot comedy shows? That’s the degradation lazy-a$$ independents demand.

Obamacare=Romneycare=Newtcare

Dream on if you think that Gingrich will not KEEP pushing
an individual mandate if he wins.

Santorum was my first choice, but he can’t get any traction. Newt won me over in the debates when I realized he had answers, (even though they aren’t always the same as my answers), and that’s what people are looking for...answers.

Sorry, don’t want to “win” with Romney. Don’t want to go where he leads.
