JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A teenage girl's sense of style got her in trouble at the airport.

Vanessa Gibbs, 17, claims the Transportation Security Administration stopped her at the security gate because of the design of a gun on her handbag.

Gibbs said she had no problem going through security at Jacksonville International Airport, but rather, when she headed home from Virginia.

"It's my style, it's camouflage, it has an old western gun on it," Gibbs said.

But her preference for the pistol style didn't sit well with TSA agents at the Norfolk airport.

Gibbs said she was headed back home to Jacksonville from a holiday trip when an agent flagged her purse as a security risk.

One of the effects of the Karl Rove gang being in power. Remember that they introduced these laws.

I’m assuming that was her purse, not her wallet. Anyways,if was also her wallet, take out your cash & credit cards and stick them in your pocket

What’s the big deal? Check the bag with luggage and go.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Was their luggage already checked and being processed? How simple would that be to retrieve it? And....Some airlines are now charging for checked baggage. The last time I flew there was a $25 fee.

The TSA are a bunch of retards. Also that is not an “old western gun” Looks to be modeled after a N framed Smith and Wesson to me.

“Was their luggage already checked and being processed? “

If she had checked a bag beforehand, I’m sure it was.
The point is, this isn’t much of a news story. And her mother got hysterical for who knows what reason.
They both need to just get over it and stop making such a big deal.

Another reminder of why I have not flown anywhere for nearly 3 years. If time or distance do not allow for driving to the desired location, then I don’t go.

Another member of the team carried a similar purse with the other half of the gun on it. They were to meet in the ladies room and reassemble the complete gun.

You forgot the third member of the team that carried the welder that would be used to secure both halves into one!

Last year my son had to give up a gun shaped belt buckle to the TSA. I had fun with that.

I quit flying after returning from an assignment on 9/9/01. Most folks just like to complain and endure, but that doesn’t pressure anyone to right the wrong.

It says “realistic” replicas. That thing on her purse doesn’t look all that realistic. For starters, it’s too small.

Then again, “realistic” is a relative term. Some would argue that some Hot Wheels are realistic replicas of cars.

A person who worked for the large company I just left checked their company laptop. TSA stole it. The employee was fired.

In my extensive travels, I have found that the Norfolk Airport is the place that has far and away the most draconian enforcement of the “Perceived” rules.

THE WORST!

"Yep. Replicas are on the *prohibited* list. Sorry kiddo."

It's not a replica. It's an embossed picture on a purse, for gawdsakes. I hope she sues the TSA for everything they have. This action is FAR past being ridiculous, and into outright agency insanity.

Checked bag protection...

Put what looks like used underwear where it will be the first thing seen upon opening the bag. Coffee, chocolate, and cider make realistic stains.

Probably one of those "bitter clingers". They'll teach that cracker hoplophile who's in charge.

This TSA victim is young, white, and attractive. Can anyone determine the race of the TSAPerson who made the call?
