Teen stopped at airport for design [gun replica]on purse

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A teenage girl's sense of style got her in trouble at the airport.

Vanessa Gibbs, 17, claims the Transportation Security Administration stopped her at the security gate because of the design of a gun on her handbag.

Gibbs said she had no problem going through security at Jacksonville International Airport, but rather, when she headed home from Virginia.

"It's my style, it's camouflage, it has an old western gun on it," Gibbs said.

But her preference for the pistol style didn't sit well with TSA agents at the Norfolk airport.

Gibbs said she was headed back home to Jacksonville from a holiday trip when an agent flagged her purse as a security risk.

More ridiculous than TSA agents sexually assaulting women and children in public.

Her mom sounds hysterical.
What’s the big deal? Check the bag with luggage and go.

The list specifies “realistic replicas”. What’s on that handbag isn’t realistic.

We need more low-IQ TSA agents, more laws and regs, then this wouldn't be happening. ///sarc

No way that could be construed as a replica. I doubt it has any moving parts found in Replica firearms.

Not to pick a nit back at you, but would you feel secure putting your wallet into checked baggage knowing any locks on your baggage can and will be broken to gain access? There are more personal items lost from checked bags than in the personal screening lines.

Laura Ingraham is but one example of her cross necklace and other personal items were removed from her baggage. She put them in there for safety and not having to take them off.

I travel a great deal and maybe one out of two trips I know my baggage has been opened.

Read. Read. Please, read. Toy weapons are permitted in carry on ("Toy weapons- if not realistic replicas"). That's a realistic replica of an actual gun, not an embossed decorative motif on an accessory. What she had on her purse was not a replica or even a toy.

The TSA screwed up big time here. It would have been nice if a parent who could read could have taken the brochure you cited and pointed it out to the brain-dead TSA agent. Of course, one that stupid to have stopped her over the purse would not have been persuaded by the actual TSA brochure. The agent should lose his job for bringing more disrepute on an already disreputable agency.

Even if it were real, it’s basically a gun that’s been cut in half and mounted to the side of the purse.

TSA idiots. You have to be mentally handicapped to qualify for this organization of Bozos.

Another member of the team carried a similar purse with the other half of the gun on it. They were to meet in the ladies room and reassemble the complete gun.

Thank goodness the noble TSA stopped this vicious terrorist attack in time. Obama akbar! /s

When you are a TSA agent with the IQ of a turnip...that's what you get.

I don’t know why evryone is getting on TSA’s case and saying how stupid they are. This is normal behaviour for any level of government.
