Wonder how Huntsman's performance in NH impacts Romney...?
Wonder if Newt will be able to get any of the others to do the Lincoln-Douglas sit down...?
Looks like Newt’s gonna do a 1on1 with his future VP. Couple of RINO drek!
Strategic mistake on Newt’s part. Letting Huntsman on stage with him one on one raises his stature on a par with Newt’s, albeit just for one night. Why give him a hand up when he is stuck in last place?
Maybe Huntsman’s gesture will take votes away from Romney. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Romney finished 3rd in NH?
Yeah, and Huntsman’s not going to be an ignorant suck-up like Cain was.
Say what you want about Gingrich, his style of campaigning is impressive to watch.
Why bother. Everyone knows Newt is good in the debates. The candidates are better served telling Newt to screw and get out there and run their own campaigns. The only one helped by these things is the man pushing them. If Newt thinks he is getting Obummer to one of these, he is more out of his mind than it first appeared.
I agree that was disappointing. Huntsman and Gingrich should be good.
Huntsman is a lot sharper than Cain...we’ll see how Newt handles it...better matchup...
Yes, but if most of the R candidats agree to it, and then Obama won’t, it makes Obama look weak and frightened.
Get on the SENATE races, we are dead freepers, we are going to see 3rd 4th 5th 6th parties entering the presidential.
GIG IS UP!!! Newt is the head squish...
Support your GOP Senators now...
Any time Newt has a microphone, it’s a risky situation for him. We’ll see if any news is made. For Huntsman, it’s a no-brainer. Nothing to lose, everything to gain, even though he’ll never catch on with the base.
I would go Hunstman any day compared to the narcissist and pompous a** Newt.
“Why give him a hand up when he is stuck in last place?”
He made the offer to all of them.
Questionable strategy by Newt. He elevates Huntsman who can really benefit from the exposure, and he also opens himself up to attack from Huntsman - no doubt Huntsman will look for opportunities to draw blood.
However, this setup is right in Gingrich’s wheelhouse. There’s no one better in a debate format than Gingrich - especially one where the moderator’s role is limited and the candidates have free reign more or less.
This will make good TV!
You may be on to something with that comment. I hate to agree with it, but there is no choice.
The only reason I can see for Newt to elevate Huntsman is so that he can cut into Romney’s NH advantage.
Smart gambit on Newt’s part.
The funny thing is that Huntsman is a pretty conservative fellow...unfortunately, he bit on the “serve your country” China thing with Obama and now is dead to Conservatives...
There will be absolutely nothing for him to gain in a debate like this. Obummer would rather be thought of a weak than proved it.
As much as I don’t like Newt, I would sit back with popcorn and enjoy a Lincoln-Douglas debate between the Newtster and the Cretin-in-Chief.
The term “fish in a barrel” comes to mind.
I realized this morning who Huntsman reminds me of: Mr. Rogers.
Oh, and I watched a long news segment on Romney last night, probably 25 or more pictures in different situations flashed during the piece, everyone of these shots he had a white dress shirt on. Has anyone seen Romney in anything but a white shirt and dark pants?
WHO is he?????
Yeah, I think he’s also into cap and trade, which is not good.
“He elevates Huntsman who can really benefit from the exposure”
This is good. Huntsman is more conservative than Gingrich.
Huntsman’s got nothing to lose and will probably go in packed with grenades.
It’s a win/win. Best case scenario: they both self destruct. Worst case scenario: Newt wins and steals Huntsman’s supporters which gives him a 1% bump in the polls.
You could have said the same thing about McCain in 2008, however he still won, over the LOUD objections of many conservatives (especially those here on FR).
But it’s different with Huntsman, as Huntsman is FAR more conservative than McCain, and more conservative than Mitt & Newt. He can win.
The funny thing is that Huntsman is a pretty conservative fellow...unfortunately, he bit on the serve your country China thing with Obama and now is dead to Conservatives...
I agree. But it could be that Huntsman was thinking what a great opportunity for his family to live in another country and with him being Ambassador of China although important I still don’t think it was as bad as Newt sitting down with Nancy over Global Warming. I mean if Huntsman was a complete conservative (I am not sure of his pro-life status), I would support Huntsman over Newt.
He can’t win.
Hey, what does Huntsman have to lose?
I think he is a bigger RINO than any of our other candidates. Hell, folks, he WENT TO WORK FOR HUSSEIN.
Geez, Newt, stoop much to conquer? Be better off debating Snakehead or Axelrot...
To flood the zone with RINO hamburger ... If Huntz comes off even just ok against Gingrich it hurts Mittens ...
What, by opening a vein and bleeding all over himself? Newt knows Huntsman sux rocks...better sport would have been had debating a Presidential-candidate blast-from-the-past like Buchanan...
The coward Romney FLED Massachusetts, and
now has fled NH and this debate
to hide like the little girl Mitt really is,
while his surrogates protect him.
Hunty is gonna stand and deliver.
Why not? Huntsman, if he surges, would draw more from Romney than anyone else, IMHO.
You’re gonna knock off the keyword language or get suspended.
I hope Newt stays composed. Huntsman has a knack for groan-eliciting jab attempts.
He is against cap and trade. Look it up. :)
Does anyone remember the Saddleback debate? Obama one-on-one with Rick Warren was a Obama's worst debate, and McCain's best.
He is more conservative than anyone except maybe the lower tier of Bachmann, Paul and Santorum.
Huntsman supports a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v. Wade
I sign the bill that would trigger the ban on abortion in Utah if Roe v. Wade were overturned

I do support a right to life amendment

Governor Huntsman supports a federal amendment that would ensure legal protections for the unborn
Hes proud of his record in Utah and will continue to advocate for life on a national level.
August 20, 2011, Tim Miller, spokesman for Huntsman
I signed the bill requiring parental permission for an abortion

Embryonic stem cell research
Huntsman supports stem cell research, but not embryonic cells.
Jon Huntsman is a passionate supporter of stem cell research which is leading to new discoveries that will improve and lengthen the lives of many Americans He supports federal funding for lines that have a demonstrated history of success adult stem cells, non-embryonic stem-cells and certain types of embryonic stem cell research. Gov. Huntsman opposes federal funding for new lines that would do harm to embryos
That’s seriously hilarious. Huntsman says “You want to bring about change in a way that helps your country through public service, I’m there.” and conservatives find a way to use the “serve your country” card to lead the country down a garden path that ends at either Romney or Obama in the White House.
Little wonder the Tea Party candidates have flamed out and Huntsman is the more viable libertarian left in this race.
Speaking about last place. What about former LA governer Buddy Roemer. Last night I hear him talking about starting a new party, the American something or other. Anyone know about this??
Don’t forget Mitt’s Perfect Hair. When I was a child, my mother who was stuck at home all day would invite the young Morman missionary men in for a chat. Always suits, white shirts, and perfect hair. I was a preteen and thought they were cute, although my impression was that my mother could out-dicuss them on religious matters.
Remember without Ralph Nader, we probably would not have had President Bush.
Did you see this?
Really enjoyed this column by Will. A seething takedown of Newt, and a casual dismissal of Mitt. And some very strong compliments for Huntsman. I still say he’s got no chance, but you might be interested in this column.
If this is true, why is he regarded as a liberal around here and on talk radio?
No idea. My head explodes with the possibilities. There are conservative that argue there is a conspiracy in the liberal media to get Huntsman nominated because he is the weakest. There are conservative that argue there is a conspiracy in the liberal media to not get Huntsman nominated because he is the strongest. These people must do nothing but believe whatever people tell them to believe.
But there is still time for Huntsman to make his move. He is starting to lock down some key Republican supporters who are taking a second look beyond who the press decides for you to the candidate’s actual track record and platform.
I don’t know, this is one context in which Huntsman can come off as relatively humble and even likable.
I’m not so sure Huntsman is even a bad idea as a candidate, compared to Romney, Newt or Perry.
