Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

"Why suspend if the allegations are baseless?"

He did admit to knowing and giving the girl money for 13 years and not telling his wife, so that one is not totally baseless.

Well they did it too another good conservative before him named Alan Keyes. Now my choice is Bachmann or INDEPENDENT. My vote is not to be taken for granted by the GOP. Either the GOP gets it's act together fast or it should be replaced with a true conservative party. The leadership and direction of the GOP in the past twenty years is a disgrace. Now the double talking sellout Newt for those who let FOX News think for them is at the top of the poles. When Newt resigned most in this forum said don't come back. Newt's history is proven He has done nothing too deserve another chance. He didn't even run for another office.

The media and some Liberal cut throats in the GOP win. Cain is gone and now we have two Liberals too choose from. Everybody happy?

Newt might be able to beat Mittens(maybe) in the primary, but I suspect he would go down in flames in the general. I figure Mittens has a 50/50 chance of beating Obama, but he’s just Obama-lite, and in my opinion his candicy at this time, is particularly insulting to Republican/Conservative Americans, when the number one goal is to get rid of a policy under the current regime that Romney himself foisted on Mass. My opinion.........the country is finished. I figure Obamacare gets repealed not by any lawmakers, but by the crushing weight of the debt that is foisted on taxpayers, small business owners, etc. .....in otherwords.......total economic collapse. Only God can save us now.

The socialist leaning MSM is dreaming of a Romney v. Obama race. That way they don’t lose either way.

"I think that Newt Gingrich, if nominated, would consider Herman as a VP."

Except they're both from Georgia.

I have to assume the allegations are true.

But they were true with Slick Willie as well and he got elected TWICE!

Would it bother me, yes.

Should it disqualify him - well if it does then what the Press/DNC/pundits are all saying is that NOBODY shall be allowed to unseat the ONE! Because nobody has the purity to do so.

Because now they have made it a campaign about people's life choices and NOT about the ideas and problems of America.

Nobody CAN win an election on that, nobody is perfect.

Cain's ideas were the most conservative of anyone who was in the race.

If this is what America's elections come down to, Beauty Contests, then we are all truly screwed.

I WISH WE AT LEAST HAD THE CHANCE TO SEE HOW HE WOULD FARE AT THE BALLOT BOX!

I would have liked to have been given the chance to vote for him. He very well may not have fared well, but that is the system I believed in.

Well Obama likes to ensure the field is clear... I wonder which candidate is next.

I’m a Cain supporter in Hawaii ,whom will now have to find a new candidate to support .

Instead of trying to quote a line out of the Pokieman movie
I would rather have heard Herman quote Admiral Farragut :
“Damn the torpedoes ! FULL SPEED AHEAD !”

it’s our country folks ....

Col West : to the fore sir .... no foolin

I don’t know. I think Newt can beat Obama, and even if he doesn’t, it will be fun watching Newt destroy him in a debate. On second thought, I bet Obama refuses to debate him.

They succeeded in bringing down a good man. The leftists are a disgrace to humanity. If this doesn’t motivate you to not only defeat Zero, but completely destroy and humiliate and and the entire left a year from now then I don’t know what does.
