Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Gov. Palin decided on her own to not run, the media didn’t run her off. She would be a strong candidate still, considering the rest of the declared candidates have character problems or are too weak to fight back. If Bachmann can stop saying dumb things, I would support her. She’s the only conservative left in the race. But I would gladly support Gov. Palin if she gets in the race.
Consider the source first before you take such statements at face value. Why on Earth would you ever think that a liberal would give you an honest, objective evaluation about something like this? Would you give a liberal the benefit of your detached, objective views on who should be the liberal candidate?

The orchestration of the destruction of Herman Cain's character is IMO all part of the DNC plan, one that bring the politics of personal destruction to all-time levels and now that Cain resignation has given their new weapon life they plan to use it for all its worth.
It really is the ONLY card they have left to play to retain the Power to RULE America.

Cain evidently found that his wife wasn’t holding up well.
It is possible that the charges are true, in which case I do think it’s a toss up. If he had the affair, I wish he could have stated that he did, and moved on.
I think the Clintons had an open marriage. She feigned anguish, but I never quite bought it. Some of the background on them was rather harsh to both their images, and I don’t think Hillary was a saint either.
I don’t believe the Cains are that type of people. If Herman wasn’t faithful, it doesn’t impress me as being very presidential. I hope he can save his marriage.
If he was innocent of these charges, I hope folks know it in time. And I hope the players who pulled this routine, are destroyed by it.

It completely mystifies me how these fools, idiots and COWARDS blithely throw their hats into the Presidential ring, raising the hopes of millions of us, only to dash those hopes at the first sign of pushback from the Forces of Darkness & Evil.
I ask ALL of you, would you place yourself at PHYSICAL risk as a Presidential Candidate (or even president-Elect), knowing all the dangers and risks associated therewith, only to cave in when someone starts calling you names?
GIVE ME A BREAK - logic implies they are ONE and ALL simply straw characters, placed on the stage of public exposure in order to keep some small glimmer of hope alive in the population, thereby defusing any SERIOUS resistance. These fictitious “SAVIORS” will ALWAYS be withdrawn whenever they reach a dangerous level of support.
GET USED TO IT - the USA is DONE AND OVER.
And don’t give me flame about how inexeperienced in Foreign Policy Cain was. Or whether or not there was any basis to the sex claims. Foreign Policy has had WAAAYYYYY too much attention given to it for far, far too long, at the horrific expense of our Domestic needs. And, BTW, Clinton survived much worse sexual shenanigans.
