Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

The practice of DEFAMATION of character WINS!
I think he could have ridden this out. It’s a shame to watch a guy get taken down for doing the same thing Martin Luther King Jr. did, and he got a national holiday to boot.
Actually, Cain has only been charged with it so far too. We still don’t know he actually did a damned thing.
See this even down to the local level. Conservatives play fair and get upbraided for trivial BS. The other side cares not one whit what real actual lives they destroy in the pursuit of their goals.
The Liberal Media wins again.
I won’t vote for Obama. That’s playing Russian Roulette with a fully-loaded revolver. At this point, however, I will not be voting for the presumptive GOP nominee. This was an inside job, IMO.
Funny thing someone said the other day on here: “So we do away with a guy who is accused of adultery and vote for a guy who’s admitted it (Newt)!”
ML/NJ (right-wing racist)
Its probably been done already, but Im visualizing this cartoon with Obama standing in the middle of a desolate, scorched-earth landscape saying: Im here for the debate, surrounded by MSM-types holding flamethrowers...
There are no more credible conservatives running. Rep. Bachmann is a back-bencher and Senator Santorum couldn’t get re-elected in his own state. Neither has any executive experience. Speaker Gingrich is deeply flawed with more baggage than a Samsonite sales convention and what can I say about Milt that hasn’t already been said? Jon Huntsman? Don’t make me laugh! And Wrong Paul is a conservative like I’m a supermodel.
We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation. With that one bold move we will accomplish the dual goals of seeing America led by the greatest natural born leader in our generation, even as we witness the final implosion and last agonized shrieks of our endlessly lying extreme left loonies. Their entire movement, from the fabricated attacks on Bush beginning with Blood For Oil to the crammed-down-our-gullets lies of Obamacare and the Shovel Ready Stimulus, have been nothing but one vile deceit heaped upon another. Such an absolute inability to deal in the truth or to face the facts of our situation and its solutions only proves that there is simply no place at the grown-ups table for these diseased sputa. Good riddance to rubes and bad rubbish. Time to usher in the American Renaissance, carried in on the invigoratingly freshening breeze of President Sarah Palin.
Well I am NOT suprised by her decision. She saw this coming. She was trying to PROTECT her family.
Well if that happens I guess a little revolution every once in a while is a good thing because it may just happen.
Who is left??
IF he is able to debunk all of these claims, I think that Newt Gingrich, if nominated, would consider Herman as a VP.
Who shall I write in now?
Ruling the world, if that were not crazy enough, does not require numbers of willing supporters: they will all go down the river with a red pill in the matrix of the kool aid (”I want to be successful, but America cannot be successful, and my daughter will be successful no matter” type RINO Zero Kool Aid. Yeah, drink that crap, world, I love you all so “messiah humane” rapist.)
Now the media knows this is what you do to knock out any Republican candidate, make up lies, get some whack jobs to come out of the woodwork and make up a bunch of BS and people will believe it. Expect other candidates to get the Cain treatment very soon, if they don’t think it can happen to them they are in denial, its gonna happen..this is what the media is going to do to get Obama elected
