Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Now, I’m NOT condoning infidelity, but frankly at this point, I don’t even give a crap.

Well that will come in handy next year, given the current frontrunner we have.

And yes, it really does stink. In the (very doubtful) event that Cain really wasn't involved with any of these women, why would he cave in and "suspend" his campaign? Either the allegations are true or the man has no spine. Not presidential material in either case!

I just got home after a very long day of flying back from my 6 week trip to CA and saw this. I am heartbroken right now. I had been looking forward to coming home and making a yard sign for Cain.

I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER vote for MITT ROMNEY!!! I know way too much about him and how he works.

And while I like Newt’s speaking and debate skills and even admire his writing, I just don’t see how I can honestly vote for him, he has been too much a RINO for far too long.

Cain is going to sue everyone involved with pumping this crap out on the airwaves... AND... if he gets a quick victory, he will resume his fight for the nomination provided ample time remains. My guess is that his lawyers advised a suspension for legal reasons so they can start filing charges and serving summons.
I hope you're right. Karma's a b*tch, but discovery is her evil twin.

It’s looking more and more likely that on Election Day, I’ll either be writing in Mickey Mouse or spending the day fishing.

It’s down to Santorum and Bachman.

It’s BHO and the DemoNazi Party fault. Why do we keep letting them pick our candidates? They deserve our hatred.

They are succeeding in destroying our country.

Feeling very sad. This is a severe setback for America, and for our party. Newt is the next most electable ... and frankly, since the race for President has become such a popularity contest, I don’t think ol’ nose-in-the-air supercilious Newt can win that popularity contest against Obama. I just don’t. (Though I will vote for whomever the GOP puts up.)

And now I have to go take the bumper stickers off my car.

Dammit.

HUH????????????????

What I was trying to say was if you can’t stand the heat, don’t dash into the fire or something like that.

What are YOU trying to say? Are we supposed to support candidates for the US PRESIDENCY who duck and run from name callers???

If they can’t stand up to our own media assaults, what in God’s Name makes you think they will stand up to Hamass or the other evil forces of today’s world??????????????????

And BTW, I HAVE LIVED UNDER YOUR SCENARIO in Budapest from 1950 to 1953 so don’t give me any grief about lack of civil liberties or government sponsored spying and atrocities BUB, unless you too have lived it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>>> The worst thing Cain could do would be to “throw his support” to a currently active candidate

3 things on this... because it’s a good point.

1. It throws his adversaries off track... makes his “suspension” sound more like a withdrawal.

2. It positions him for the VP slot. You KNOW he’s going to endorse Gingrich. I doubt he’s expecting a shoulder tap later on, but it cannot hurt his positioning. Gingrich may have even offered the position in exchange for his endorsement... who knows... those 2 are just obviously tight.

3. At this point, Cain may very well not even want to be president, knowing that he would have 4 years of this kind of vitriol to deal with, impeding his every move. If I were him, I would be feeling kind of like the tiger who just got his tail grabbed, and drops what he was stalking to devour the dumbass on his tail. It’s somewhat difficult to focus 100% of your attention on two targets at the same time.

I suspect that Cain just got schooled on who the real enemy in America is today... and I think he just enlisted an army to fight this war if he indeed intends to fight it.

My dead grandmother could beat Obama. The fact that she could do no harm is reason enough for a majority to vote for her. If Gingrich is the nominee how does he attack him? He has already copped to his skeletons. Romney, the least likely to succeed, would still beat him. Santorum, bachman, even Huntsman are very viable. The Billion $ should not cause anyone sleeplessness, after the primary the big $ roll to the winner. I predict $750K @ least and our candidate doesn’t have Obama’s record to defend.

Lingle !

Yuck....she is like a female Ron Paul

The way she utterly failed to support Duke last year
totally showed me where she was at . Self serving , self-absorbed , controlling , and a glutton for all available funds for her campaigns and zero coattails for anyone else .

It rather vote for Ed Case frankly

Not cool!

Herman, you suck!! >:|

I love all these guys decrying the media, barry or whoever for this. They weren’t sticking their tweeter into that other woman for 10+ years - Cain was.

If he didn’t do it, he would not have stopped his campaign. It’s just that simple.

His credibility is gone with me.

We as Conservatives are rapidly are coming to the point in time whert we are going to have make an unpleasant choice,or it will be made for us. We [Conservatives ] will soon be standing alone.

Cain saw what they did her. He knew what he was in for. Hell, if a ‘credible journalist’ can say with a straight face that a sitting governor faked her pregnancy of her Downs Syndrome child to cover for her 15 year old daughter...

well, all is lost .

I personally think Rove was behind all this with Cain.

I always thought her husband was a little light in the loafers too. The fact that he councils people who are gay into living a straight life just confirmed for me.

The '666' comment may have not been the best thing to say but IMO it was twisted out of context. IIRC she 'meant' the 'Devil' was in the details. And in DC the details mean everything. Pretty soon, like under an all dem gubmint Cain's 9-9-9 would become 20-20-20.

Plus the media beat Michele over and over with that '666' comment solely, or mostly because she's religious and they're all atheists or 'agnostics'. They just love to mock anyone who believes in God, especially Christians.

I 'kinda' liked Newt as he's undoubtedly the smartest guy in the room and he's 'found religion' and paid (repented) for his past sins. But his recent immigration blurb was a shot between the eyes. It was Perry's heartless comment v2.0. Newt just used the phrase 'we're humane'. (well sorry Newt, I'm not.)
