Herman Cain drops out of presidential race
LA times ^ | 3 Dec 2011

Posted on 12/03/2011 11:02:40 AM PST by mandaladon

Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."

"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."

Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.

"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Now if Cain had killed this woman in a car accident. . . . or left a semen stain on her dress . . . . and was a Democrat. . . .

agree.

Again,
so
very
disappointed.

I cannot help but think the GOP leadership was behind his campaign demise.

It also makes NO SENSE that Cain would run and be subject to a “complete rectal exam” that happens to “some” (Obama never had one) candidates, if he had this secret affair going on for years. Was he so naive to think it would not come out?

I don’t believe so, simply because of the economy and the fact that he quit his campaign.

If he was continuing it, then perhaps he’d get a surge of $$

So I don’t get into a suicidal depression, I keep repeating: *Obama is unelectable. Obama is unelectable. Obama is unelectable.*

I want to believe in someone.

“I see your point, but where was everyone when so many were trashing Gov. Palin after she demurred?”

They were very wrong to do so, and I said so then. Before she pulled the plug, I had decided that Palin was my first choice as well. I have never been a Cain supporter, but I wasn’t a detracter either. Palin dropping was a big disappointment for many, as Cain’s is. I see no sense in rubbing salt in a wound.

Look, any conservative candidate (or Republican in the general) is going to have to deal with the full force of the MSM slime machine.

And what dealing with it means, is very possibly putting country first, family second.

Freepers can bitch about that all they want. Bitching won't make it go away.

The sooner in the process we find out who's a lover and who's a fighter, the better.

I think he realized that his campaign didn’t have the money to fight off the allegations... and still continue to campaign.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride. Democrats are always going to get unlimited mulligans on this stuff, and there is not much to be gained in whining about it.

Which means that a conservative candidate needs to (1) have a history which is virginally white, or (2) be able to look the MSM in the eye when the smears start and say "Yeah. So what??"

So far, I think Newt is the only candidate who is capable of (2) and that's one reason why I'm supporting him now.

No, you look at the remaining candidates and find the one that best fits your beliefs.

Or you can put up a bachelor for President, for there is no family to protect.

(So what if he slept around... that’s what you do as a single guy!)

I think his wife was unaware of a few of these “arrangements” that Cain was in. IE giving money to White. Therefore, I think she had a lot to do with this decision. I’ll wager she was getting more upset by the day with it all.

Every single Republican candidate is way better than Obama. Barring a sudden increase in jobs, like the 10,000,000 missing from the economy since 2008, all of them would beet him. It is all over for the one except for the crying and lashing out about the bitter, clinging bigots. Sleep easy, he is done!
