Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign."
"As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
Cain's campaign had sent mixed signals as to his future since Ginger White, an Atlanta woman who claims to have had an affair with Cain for more than a decade, went public with her story earlier this week. While Cain has said he has been "reassessing" his candidacy, he also, at times, has been fiercely defiant, suggesting that unnamed enemies have been trying to do him in and vowing to press forward.
"The pundits would like for me to shut up, drop out and go away," he said. "I am not going to be silenced, and I am not going away."

Many strikes against the poor guy from the beginning:
1. He’s black AND conservative - that just isn’t acceptable to this countries elite.
2. He is a Washington outsider - that isn’t acceptable to Republican or Democratic insiders.
3. If the allegations are true, he’s stupid for ever running in the first place. However, if he were a liberal, the women would have been assumed to be gold digging bimbos (ala slick Willy) or the stories buried completely (ala John Edwards)
We must draft, nominate and elect Sarah Palin president in the most crushing tidal wave of enthusiastic good judgment ever seen in the history of this nation.

The libs had help though from our side in this. The GOP turned its back on him, and none of the “big names” stood up for him. I have no interest in supporting any of these bozos, even if Cain endorses one of them.
....Or even have him as a possible VP running mate.

LIE!! Misledia lie!!! Cain said he was suspending his campaign, not dropping out. Suspending and dropping are two totally different things. If you doubt it, try testing it on a pair of pants.
Cain dropping out/suspending his campaign is not unexpected, but very unfortunate.
We need Cain, or someone like Cain who is a strongly committed black conservative, to run and win local and state elections and then run for Congress.
Maybe that’s West, or maybe someone else. I don’t know.
What I do know is that for demographic reasons, it is critical that we, as Republicans, convince blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are already social conservatives, that they need to be voting for the party that doesn’t advocate killing babies, sodomy, and godlessness.
If that doesn’t happen within a generation, we have a nightmare on our hands as Texas and Florida shift from the “R” to the “D” columns, and other states follow suit.
Hopefully Cain will stay out there and hammer Obama mercilessly, but they will just keep attacking him if he does.

Indeed. Why can't the party change their process...nominate delegates to the convention and free them to vote for anyone they choose. Hide the candidates from the media until the vote. Vote them in just 90 days before the election and shorten the whole process. Pick Sarah at the convention and they will play hell trying to find new dirt on her.
