On private call, Republicans say attacking Obama personally is too dangerous: Yahoo News exclusive
YAHOO ^ | December 6, 2011 | Rachel Rose Hartman

Posted on 12/06/2011 11:02:53 AM PST by maggief

Republicans on a private Republican National Committee conference call with allies warned Tuesday that party surrogates should refrain from personal attacks against President Barack Obama, because such a strategy is too hazardous for the GOP.

"We're hesitant to jump on board with heavy attacks" personally against President Obama, Nicholas Thompson, the vice president of Tarrance Group, a Republican polling firm, said on the call. "There's a lot of people who feel sorry for him."

(snip)

On the call--which Yahoo News was invited to attend because of a mistake by someone on the staff of the Republican National Committee--Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary for George W. Bush, encouraged Republicans to turn around the Democratic attacks lobbed at the GOP presidential candidates-- Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, for starters-- for "flip-flopping."

Nobody is going to take anything from Obama until they’ll say the words ‘Hussein’ and ‘Alleged birthplace’.

This woman is part of the problem. IMHO, a candidate has to run against Hussein. Otherwise, what’s the point?

The power of political correctness, and the fear of the enemy media rears it’s ugly head, yet again.

And we only have ONE candidate that even stands a chance of getting the message out above the din of media hate.

Amazing that Obama has denied the hospital in Hawaii where he was born (whichever one that is) a special visit. I mean, surely it would be great public relations for the hospital.

Better to put a proposal out there and stick him with a response.

For example, Overturn Obamacare. Let him tell us why we need this....again....Kinda like hitting his head against the wall.

We are going to get four more years of obama because the GOP hacks in DC want obama in office. Don’t kid yourselves, McCain, Boehner, Mcconnell, TNR, the GOP party hacks, all love obama.

I am so sick of the GOP - a total waste of a party.

yea, it’s not like Americans can handle multiple issues at once.

quick... pick one item, hang your hat on it and then blow it handing the election to the dems

great plan!! morons.

how about start with eligibility, forcing him to explain how he didn’t have split allegiances at birth... then move to the unConstitutional 0bamacare... then the war expansion without explanation... then the economy... next would be the unemployment rate followed by his treatment of our allies, gun walker, cash walker, insider trading, and finally about his multiple social security numbers. while you’re at it, demand an explanation why he submitted an obviously forged birth certificate

how these people can lose the election is beyond me.

but the GOP will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory all the while blaming dems. grats!

It's easy, effective and proper to personally attack Obama as long as you put the policy he personally implemented in the charge.

Why launch "personal" attacks when his politics and ideology are destroying the country? If the republicans don't want to attack his policies, we are all in a world of hurt.

This Yahoo article seems to be taking a lot out of context. I don't dissagree that personal attacks will not bring democrats and “independents” over to vote against him

But let's define personal attacks. Calling Obama a baby killer because he supports government funded abortion doesn't help the cause. But suggesting there is a sense of moral bankruptcy one could attain based on Obama’s record of support for “after birth abortion.”

Calling Obama Hitler is a personal attack. But suggesting there is some similarities between this president's policies and those instituted years before Hitler rose to power might not be a stretch (as Charlie Daniels did).

Suggesting that his governance MO has radical socialist/fascias roots and tendencies is not a personal attack.

Calling him unamerican might not be a personal attack, but it is pretty simple to use his own quotes and video to prove he is no fan of the constitution.

I wish they would empty that establishment GOP clown car and fill it with real conservatives.

That is the gift of Muslim hate and terror that Obama gives to the USA & Israel everyday. And......we should feel sorry for him!!! You have got to be kidding!!! Here’s my mantra against Obama!!! Attack him night and day....and expose him for what he really is, out to destroy the American Republic!!! That idiot John McCain played nice with him, kissed his you-know-what, and promptly got politically destroyed by “Hate America” Reverand Jeremiah Wright’s, man of action, hate & destruction, POTUS Obama!!!

While conservatives are being relentlessly savaged about accustations, allegations, rumors, gossip and conjecture in the MSM, the Republicans are expressing fear about mentioning the instututional corruption, incompetence, blatant racism and duplicity of the most transparently malignant and bumbling presidency in American history. The RNC/GOP establishment has become the enemy of conservatism.

They’re working overtime to force a replay of 2008 on us. In their twisted universe, Romney is the next “McCain” in line, he will be the nominee, he (and his media surrogates) will not permit any disparagement of Obama. They will be having none of using Obama’s middle name, calling him a socialist, or questioning his personal associations with the likes of Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.

If they succeed in forcing Romney on us, they’re going to throw a popular conservative, such as Marco Rubio, on the ticket with him. It’s the McCain/Palin template all over again. Because it worked so well last time.
