Drones Cleared For Domestic Use Across The US
Autonomous Nonprofit Organization “TV-Novosti” ^ | 11/29/2011

What do you know about drones? You know drones — those robotic, unmanned planes that fire missiles for the American military across Afghanistan, Pakistan and anywhere else the United States needs to get away with murder. Well if you don’t know too much, don’t worry, that’ll change soon. The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into rules that will bring the controversial aircraft into the country, creating an United States airspace buzzing with tiny, robot planes to look over every inch of American soil — and maybe more. An article published Tuesday in the Los Angeles Times reveals that new drone planes could be coming domestically quite soon, as both law enforcement and the agricultural sector are seeing benefits in keeping an arsenal of unmanned planes ready to patrol the skies. For farmers, drones could bring a new method of pumping pesticides into fields of crops from above; for the cops, the aircraft could conduct surveillance over suspected criminals (think police chopper but remote controlled). The Times reports that utility companies see a benefit in drones as well, giving them a new set of eyes to monitor oil, gas and water pipelines.

Don't have much of a problem with this depending on how it's used. If used to watch the border or pipelines and power grids no problem here. Curious to see when the ACLU will go crazy. Not gonna happen since this administration is loved by them.

I wonder if these things are visible to the binocular-eyed?

I could envision a domestic resistance force who’s purpose is to locate and watch the watchers.

Of course, this is a natural progression of the erosion of privacy when people clamor for security cameras in “high risk areas” of the inner city. It’s JUST a camera. If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Sheesh.

—Stand by for collisions between the drones and VFR general aviation aircraft.—

I heard the FAA is already talking about altitude restrictions, etc. Anybody that has seen the six and eight propeller electric hovering craft know that, if there was a need, these things could become as ubiquitous as cell phones. Ultimately they are ridiculously cheap and with simple GPS could be sent anywhere and return to the sender at a specific time. all the while recording audio and video - and anything else an on board sensor could sense.

You may want to keep your curtains drawn while making love to your wife.

Surprise....there already here! In Montgomery county Texas, the sheriffs office has acquired an unmanned drone courtesy of a Dept. of Homeland Security grant.

The City of Tomball Texas received similar grants and have beefed up surveillance capabilities as well.

Take a look at the link.

It goes without saying that the definition of “suspected criminals” will expand without limit to include unpermitted home repairs and improvements, lawn-watering during “drought conditions”, unauthorized gatherings (we will remember the time when we called them “barbeques”), use of non-carbon-compliant lawn mowers, burning wood on the wrong day, doing an oil change on your own car in your own driveway, etc.

The step after that will be routine “precautionary” logging of your activities, as we are seeing with license plate readers.

Yep. It’s bad enough dealing with “weekend warriors” and wet behind the ears commuter pilots with their heads buried in charts and checklists. Now, we have to keep an eye out for drones, too. What genius came up with this idea? Hopefully, the guidance system will be coupled to TCAS.

About 4 years ago my husband and I were traveling home from a fishing vacation in Ontario, Canada. We had just crossed the border about 20 - 30 minutes beforehand, and saw what could only be described as a “drone” flying in the air about 200 feet from our truck. Since this was in an area of Minnesota where there wasn’t a human soul for MILES around, I can only assume that this was US military equipment.

Folks, I would not be surprised to find out that the government has been patrolling with drones (at least the borders) for years.

“It goes without saying that the definition of “suspected criminals” will expand without limit to include unpermitted home repairs and improvements,...”

I was surpised to find out that our city already does this to some extent, by utilizing satellite photos to track changes in home/property “footprints.” Common improvements that property owners make without permits are decks and pools.

When I heard a city employee describing use of this tactic, I can remember thinking to myself, “Creepy...”

Actually, the link I posted discussed having tear gas and or bang sticks (bean bag guns) mounted on the front of the drone.

I guess apparently the boy’z in blue could maneuver the drone into place and deliver non-lethal ordinance.

These things could be used to hover down into neighborhoods, peering into backyards for city code violations and so forth.

Loss of individual liberty in this country over the last couple of decades is truly alarming.

I don't suppose it has occured to anyone to "look into" the U.S. Constitution.

I have a friend who told her politically-conservative, grown-up son that he needed to expend his negative energy in a postivite way. Upon her visit to his home the next day, she found him purposefully mowing in his field (in what seemed at the time like a random pattern).

Turns out he took his negative energy to the outdoors and mowed (longhand) “FUBO” in large enough letters that the relatives began sending the satellite shots of it to him.

Not really what his mom had in mind. (LoL)

Don’t pick your nose, scratch your ass, bury your pet in the backyard, spank your child, run out in your underwear to get the morning paper......all of these will become violations under the soon coming Ministry of Personal Conduct, enforced by the “eyes” in the sky.

Same idea as Red Light Cameras. Only a thousand times worse.

Indicative of our government afraid of losing control of us citizens after it’s broken the country so they employee military tech that we paid for to exact their control. Every SOB that voted in favor of doing this needs to be physically removed from public office. Oh, that’s right, that’s why they voted for it.

It's gotta be true, it's on TV-Novosti!

Besides the dubious sourcing for this thread there is a lot of background here that is missing.

The FAA and DHS have been battling UAV regulations for a while. It seems the military has stopped trying to get use of their UAVs in dual use airspace and does most of their training in exclusively military restricted air space.

DHS jumped the gun and started buying Predator B for border security, but has been locked into narrow tracks, at prescribed altitudes and are escorting them back and forth with manned aircraft. They have crashed a couple of them already including one where the contractor paid to operate the thing inadvertently shut the engine off. For the same amount of money and arguably fewer people they could have bought 3 Cessna Caravans per Predator with cameras and gotten a lot more flexibility.

Predator B will be great for patrolling deep into the Caribbean and East Pacific, but it will be a while before it can do anything helpful in the U.S. Unfortunately, the former Air Force general running that agency in DHS loves his fleet of UAVs so a comparatively large portion of his budget goes to the Predator.

The other issue barely mentioned in the article was Ag spraying. I don't see this as an issue. These are large remote controlled helicopters with spraying equipment. You plug in the coordinates of your field and it sprays your crop. You take the thing to the field on the back of a truck.

EVERY drone that patriots see flying outside military airspace should be SHOT DOWN with deer rifles, AR’s, 22 rifles, whatever you have (some can’t be seen from the ground when at altitude). The federal government has NO BUSINESS doing this.

It’s JUST a camera. If you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about. Sheesh.

It's attitudes like yours that have led to loss of freedom in this country. "Not doing anything wrong" is defined by this tyrannical federal government. Am I "doing anything wrong" if I am growing a certain plant that happens to look like hemp (there are many)? With a drone looking at my garden, that very well may earn me a visit from a DEA SWAT team.

Was Randy Weaver "doing anything wrong" when his rifle stock was 1/4" too short? Had they had drones then, they might have just dropped a Hellfire on his house instead of having the FBI sniper murder his pregnant wife and his son.

Saying "if you’re not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about" and just letting this government do whatever it wants will lead to people being murdered. It always has, and always will. Government will take every power they can get, and want more.
