Statement by Gov. Rick Perry on Obama Administration’s Use of Gay Rights to Make Foreign Aid Decisions

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement:

“Just when you thought Barack Obama couldn’t get any more out of touch with America’s values, AP reports his administration wants to make foreign aid decisions based on gay rights.

“This administration’s war on traditional American values must stop.

“I have proposed a foreign aid budget that starts at zero. From that zero baseline, we will consider aid requests based solely on America’s national security interests. Promoting special rights for gays in foreign countries is not in America’s interests and not worth a dime of taxpayers’ money.

“But there is a troubling trend here beyond the national security nonsense inherent in this silly idea. This is just the most recent example of an administration at war with people of faith in this country. Investing tax dollars promoting a lifestyle many Americas of faith find so deeply objectionable is wrong.

“President Obama has again mistaken America’s tolerance for different lifestyles with an endorsement of those lifestyles. I will not make that mistake.”

I hope he, Bachmann, or Santorum can pick up some momentum here in the next few weeks...

The only way this could happen is if self-professed real conservatives got off their collective arses and supported one of them. It isn't happening. Why?

Contrary to prevailing opinion here, the media doesn't choose our candidates. We do, from a group of people who put themselves forward and run in the primaries. So why are Gingrich, Romney and Paul leading in the polls? Hmmmm...?

Your going to see a Reagan outcome with Perry. Just hold on it is comin'.

Reagan was treated the same as Perry and also had some debate problems. The GOP establishment tried to stop him with Kay Bailey Hutchinson...that so called powerful machine didn't stop him. The GOP stabbed Reagan in the back as they have done to Perry.

I pray that there are a WHOLE LOT of people who are lying their butts off on these polls so their candidate doesn’t get the Palin/Cain treatment.

Most of the polls are push polls. I have contacted Rasmussen raising hell over his push polls.

Perry Could Rise in Iowa, Polling Data Shows .........."And, significantly, Perry’s positive rating among likely Iowa caucus-goers is at a commanding 67 percent. And a stellar 71 percent view him positively after having seen one of his commercials.

Other numbers that suggest a potential rise: Perry stands at 78 percent positive among self-identified tea party members, according to the survey.

But he also enjoys strong support among Iowa’s undecided voters, at 71 percent.

One of the poll’s most interesting findings: 67 percent of respondents overall — and a whopping 75 percent who are leaning toward former House Speaker Gingrich — state that they still may change their minds. That finding suggests that, with just a few weeks to go before the caucuses, the Iowa electorate remains very fluid."....

That’s how the silent majority see Perry. What I am seeing is 55%.

Given that most of our aid is to backward third world countries that do not give a hoot about any human rights.... we just cut several billion out of the budget.

No we didn't. The money is still there. It just means we can "reward" certain countries that are accepting of perversion.

The internals of the Baselice survey are very encouraging!

•Rick Perry’s positive is at 67% among all respondents, and is at 71% among those who have seen a television ad about Perry.
•Among those who share all or most of the views of the Tea Party Movement, Perry is at 78% positive.

The dems and the media in Texas hate him and they’ve been scrounging around in his closet for skeletons for years and haven’t found a thing.

People outside of Texas should also understand that there is basically two camps in the Republican Party. You could call them the "Bush/Hutchison" and the "Perry" camps. The two camps hate each other but the citizens are kind of ambivalent towards each other, we'll support both. However, when they come head to head the voters tend to side with the Perry camp.

Most of the dirt on Perry has been flung at him by the Bush/Hutchison camp and it has never stuck.

My long winded point is that a lot of people outside of Texas see Perry as the "second coming of George W. Bush" and nothing could be further from the truth. I would be surprised if Bush endorsed him.

If Perry's own party couldn't take him out, the Left doesn't have a chance.

Yes, there is a definite coolness between the Bush’s and Perry. Don’t know where it started or why, but can’t help feeling it stems from a longing (especially by Barbara) to see Jeb as President.

I always felt she favored Jeb over Dubya, not evidence, just a feeling.

Perry is far more hardrock conservative than Bush, although I love the Bushes dearly, I prefer the political philosophy of Perry.

Fantastic, thank you for this. Love it. America has not spoken yet, these polls mean nothing. No way is every person polled and we forget too that not everyone uses a computer. But they vote and right now their votes are not counted in the polls.

I can't agree on this one, and I've been hearing it too often in conservative circles. Let's focus our fire on President Obama’s policies and actions, not guesses about his sexual orientation unless we can get better evidence than his lack of prior girlfriends.

Contrary to what our television tubes try to tell us, it simply is not true that every teenager and twenty-something man tries constantly to get girls to go on dates or get them into bed.

A hundred years ago, the common practice in our current culture of dating dozens of women before marrying one of them would have been shocking. Although it's certainly true that some wealthy and powerful men have always “played the field,” in more conservative circles a few generations ago, dating lots of different women would have marked a man as someone who couldn't be trusted to remain faithful to his wife.

This isn't just stuff out of Victorian-era history books.

I can think of more than a few clearly and unquestionably heterosexual conservative men who were more interested in their college studies or their careers than in girlfriends for a long time before they got married. While Obama certainly is not a Christian in any sense evangelicals would recognize as biblically legitimate, I can also think of quite a few young Christian men I know who are following their parents’ strong warnings against getting involved in the culture of casual dating.

There are both secular and religious reasons why someone might not have spent a lot of time dating before getting married.

We've got more than enough ammunition to go after President Obama’s destructive policies without getting drawn into a debate over whether he is homosexual or whether he, as a young man, was more interested in college and law school and career than in women.

My guess is Obama in high school and college was a bit of a geek who knew he wasn't going to get lots of girls and therefore focused on his studies. That's not a bad thing. I just wish he'd spent his time reading better books and finding better friends.
