My Dad Has Graduated from this life about 22:00 Mountain Time. All: THX TONS 4 Prayers
Step-Sister's phone call | 7 Dec 2011 | Quix

Posted on 12/07/2011 4:39:55 PM PST by Quix

My Blood Dad is dying in great pain.

He has broken his hip the 3rd time. His vitals are too poor to operate.

They don't even know if they can move him at all due to the great pain.

He has reportedly made his peace with God and forgiven everyone.

Please pray that he graduates from this life as painlessly and quickly as The Lord would wish for him.

Sigh. BIG SIGH.

This is mother's birthday and the day her father died.

Sigh.

I know some prayer threads are in this forum. If this is not fitting, please move it where it is.

I'm more than a little discomboobalated.

Thanks in advance for all the prayers and caring so typical of all of you.

All you have to do is throw a little Latin, Greek, and Hebrew in there and everybody thinks if they don’t follow you it’s because THEY’RE stupid.

LOL!

Seriously, every part of that is good, but my fave is “To forgive is to set a prisoner free and to discover that the prisoner is you.”

This is a VERY catholic story: Did I ever tell you, maybe 6-8 years ago I confessed again and again to being unforgiving and to KNOWING it’s bad and FEELING the pain but being unable to let it go. It was debilitating. I got afraid to feed my sheep because as I measured out feed and distributed it, my mind was going back to this and that injury.

We had what I call a “Confess-a-thon”. (We have them in Lent and Advent.) 6 to 8 friars come down from DC and we have makeshift “stations” with a chair, a screen if you want to use it, and a priest.

So I confessed — UH-GAIN — to this. And the friar said, “Clearly this is a supernatural affliction, so we need a supernatural remedy. Here’s what I want you to do:
Whenever you feel the anger, say a Lord’s Prayer, a Hail Mary, and then a prayer for the person you’re angry at AND a prayer for forgiveness for yourself AND him.”

So I did that. I think it was THREE DAYS LATER that I caught myself singing the Magnificat as I fed my sheep! NO Anger; Praising GOD!

Free at last! Free at Last! Great God Almighty I’m free at last!

Of COURSE I backslide. But when I notice I have my remedy.

PRAISE GOD!

HE IS FAITHFUL.

Sometimes He requires our persistent earnest effort toward His will and Redemptive solution.

Yet, we CANNOT do it all on our own.

Earnest authentic good faith ACTING AS THOUGH effort is DIFFERENT

FROM

denial saturated pretending.

Acting as though we would when the healing is accomplished, IN GOOD FAITH helps yield to God in a way that results in the feelings we seek, bit by bit, after a time.

Thanks for your great example.

The whole mysterious dance of our will in God’s and his in us ... Who can delineate it?

And of course there’s a very simple psych side to this. Leaving aside the whole God part, I’m giving my mind something else to do.

But the singing came from God, that’s fer shur!

But, you’re right. Denial, though a gift in its place, is not what we want to be doing. To slip our hand into God’s while we face our lives, that’s not denial; it’s good sense!

You may have noticed that my tag line changed from the Miraculous Medal prayer to “Jesus, I trust in you.” It’s not that my devotion to Mary has changed or lessened. But this seemed to be a simple and completely ecumenical prayer that ANYONE can say when it looks like the compost is hitting the air-conditioner. (Or any other time!)

I just find whenever it looks like I’m about to go off the rails, if I remember to say this ... well, it’s a good thing.

Jesus, I trust in you.
And besides, you’ve given me friends like Quix!
Who wouldn’t trust you?

Quix, I received this email from my sister just today.

She lost her 41 year old son earlier this year tragically, and yet this was her Christmas message to her family and friends. I think you’ll see why I thought of you when you read it:

“Dear Family and Friends,

As Christmas nears and the pain of losing E_____ is even more pronounced, I was looking for appropriate words to express our wish that you have a blessed and peace-filled season. Then I came across this Advent devotional that I had written for the United Methodist Church here in Milford(Pennsylvania) on December 12, 2009.

It is entitled “Patience” and seems to express the spirit of Christmas. As you read it, I hope you will reflect on the promises that God has made to His people — they will be fulfilled. Love and peace,R____ & J_____

Patience

During the season of Advent, we reflect on the events leading to the birth of our Savior. We wait patiently for Christmas to arrive and then we celebrate with family and friends the miraculous gift that God presented to the world—His own son who would open the gates of Heaven to us.

What does it mean to be patient? Patience is described in the dictionary as the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. To people of faith, however, patience is much more. It means to have hope in the faithfulness of God to keep His promises to us.

Zechariah and Elizabeth waited patiently for God to fulfill His promise to gift them with a child and they were blessed with the birth of John the Baptist. Upon Mary’s approach, he leapt for joy in his mother’s womb in anticipation of the coming of Christ. He spent his lifetime preparing the way for the Lord and when he baptized Jesus, he knew the prophecy had been fulfilled.

We too must wait patiently for our Lord to fulfill His promises to us. No matter what difficulties or pain are allowed to enter into our lives, we must never lose hope. For God always keeps His promises.

I am assured of this in my favorite Bible passage: John 14:1-3. “In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Come Lord Jesus!”

My deep condolences, Quix. You will see your dad, again, and find him the way you always wanted him to be.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for He that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He IS a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” Heb 11:6

And that’s you, Quix! The Spirit of the Almighty God is within you and will help you through this difficult time - you have that assurance.

Wow! I am truly Humbled! I lost my Father in 1994. It caused division in my Family. I am one of seven. My Father died taking care of my invalid Mother. I just moved in to help my father. Well, He died.

Two of my brethren tried to force or said they would put my mother into a home with strangers.I do not know what went on behind my back. I was willing to live with my Mother. It was very trying. Thank God for our greatest resource which is prayers.

Without getting into all that. It did turn out all right eventually. We forgave each other. I forgave right away but was not going to allow something my mother did not want. We had caregivers while I worked and other family at times. But My brother keep the faith which you are.

I will pray for All in your Family and this person! Thank you for you Christian witness!! How many times did he say to Peter to fiorgive? seven times seventy! God Bless you Heart! Praise Jesus always!!!

INDEED ON BOTH COUNTS.

It’s still hard thinking of him no longer being in this time-space dimension.

For 65 years he’s always been somewhere somewhat accessible.

Now, in one blow, my immediate nuclear family of my 2 dads is cut in half.

Am praying my step-Dad, also 88, will be around a lot longer. His parents didn’t graduate until after their 95th birthdays, IIRC.

Actually, The Rapture sooner would be quite welcome. Sigh.

This sin-soaked orb is increasingly unattractive and hostile to all who love Jesus.

There must be some ‘Great Exploits’ for Believers to do, yet, however.

Sigh.

I know. HUGS. I have only one parent left, and I cherish him. It’s very hard. But we know they are in a better place. Still, it’s like they moved someplace very far away without phone service. Sometimes I do ask God to give messages. I always hope that’s not too forward of me. I know He’s not an answering service.

I don’t think God is the least bit bothered by such requests.

I do think it’s important to address such requests TO HIM.

I think it’s a little funny.

Daddy must be feeling a little bit like a fish out of water . . . with all his cantankerousness washed away. He’ll have to learn to be the more real and redeemed him. LOL.

Could you ping the prayer list for me?

My mother 9who just got back from seeing her sisters for 2 weeks) had a heart attack this afternoon. They did a heart cath this afternoon, and her heart stopped. They brought her back (praise God), she’s in CCU tonight, and even tho everything is looking good, a few extra voices talking to Father would be nice.

If you want to be specific her name is [Shadowstrike’s Mom] L . . .

I appreciate any prayers.

THANKS TONS FOR YOUR KIND CARING AND PRAYERS.

I didn’t expect to feel this significantly more alone because I wasn’t that close to him—though I’d often tried to get closer—he was very effectively resistant to any such on anyone’s part. Yet he blamed others for him being so isolated. LOL.

The most critical thing is that he was ready to meet The Lord Jesus and had forgiven everyone else. PRAISE GOD FOR THAT. Eternity will afford lots of time to make things up on such scores.

May God’s best intimacy, provision, safety, Peace, Love, Hope, Joy and guidance be yours this CHRISTmas season and New Year.

Would as you all to pray that Father will give me patience tho :) She’s already complaining about the number of pills she has to take.

God has been so good to my family through this, and knowing that each of you had us in prayer, that you were helping to hold us up...it means more than you can ever know.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and I wish you all a very Merry CHRISTmas, and a safe, healthy, and Blessed New Year.

PRAYER UPDATE PING ON SHADOWSTRIKE’S MOM

You might experiment with something like the following . . .

“Mom, we love you dearly. I think you have a lot of evidence of that. You can do what you can to help make our loving you and caring for you easier or harder. Mom, I need you to put yourself in our place and do your best to treat us as you’d want to be treated if the roles were reversed—as we do when we reach out to serve you in this situation.”

Hugs and prayers.

Although I haven’t replied until now, you, your mom and family have been added to my prayers.

I wanted to share something with you in regards to how your Mom is acting, and in addition to what Quix suggested, you might try...

When I’m feeling particularly ill, I do have a tendency to complain a lot. If I sit and analyze my behavior after the fact, I think the thing I was craving the most at the times I was my worst was actual physical comfort. Some people are more receptive as others, particularly in a foul mood. However, you might try to commiserate with her on occasion about how much of a pain it is taking so many pills, and keeping track of it all, and then assure her that the reason you’re helping is because of that — and also emphasize that if it were you, it’d be hard for you to keep track, feel like taking them all as well.

Contrary to sounding negative, it will help her understand that YOU understand and she isn’t “alone”. Lots of hugs are important, too - if she wants them. There is a part of us - especially when we are seriously ill or injured that is a scared little child inside - whether we recognize and admit it, or not. As for medication we are forced to take for the rest of our life, there is a period of rebellion while we struggle with facing our own mortality. No-one likes being ill, and likes even less to have to take reg. medication to keep us as healthy as possible (esp. when it isn’t even as healthy as one once was...).

I’ve been recovering from a bad double ear infection, and I’m having a very hard time staying on schedule with all of my pills - that adds to the depression that the body feels when sick, and can influence mood tremendously as well. And, I’m only dealing with regular illness - not something as critical as your Mom is dealing with. I can only imagine the stress, worry and deep thoughts to be way more profound in her case.

Sorry for writing so much... I think half of my message was an attempt to even express my own feelings. I don’t know if this is what’s up with your Mom, or not. Maybe there are bits and pieces that will help in your situation... Regardless, I will keep you all in my continuing prayers - for patience, strength, peace, comfort and finding moments of joy no matter the situation. :)

A number of years ago in Sunday School class we were having a discussion about healing.

First is the healing that takes place naturally.
Second is “miraculous healing” with the laying on of hands and annoiting with oil as mentioned in James.
Finally there is “Divine Healing” when we are absent from the body but present with The Lord.

Prayers continue.

May your father rest in peace and may the Holy Spirit comfort you and your family at this time.

AMEN! Prayer done. I pray for a healing and for HIS will to be done. Whatever HE wants. ALLELUIA!!

But, there is a saying, “ Don’t tell GOD about your problems, but tell your problems about your GOD!!”.

In all things praise HIS HOLY PRECIOUS NAME!

GOD is a funny one. HE loves to show HIS power. Especially when we think HE won’t.

Constantly praise HIS HOLY NAME in and through all things. Then we find peace in all things and situations that seem very sensitive. Just praise and praise and say, “ YOUR WILL BE DONE!”.

Keep praying over and with your father and let him know that he is great and GOD loves him.
Let him know everyday that you love him and never let him know he is sick. Even if he says it.
He is alive.
Alive is the blessing.
Alive is the more time to love him.
Alive is the more time to praise with him.
Alive is the more time to talk with him and hear what is on his heart.
Alive is the more time to show him how much he is loved. Alive is the more time to understand why GOD has him in your life and others.
Alive is the time to constantly grow towards the LORD!

GOD CAN DO THE IMPOSSIBLE!!

Love you, your family, and all in HIM!!

PRAISE JESUS!
