BREAKING: American Airlines Releases Statement: Alec Baldwin Rude to Crew, Used ‘Offensive Language’ *UPDATED* by John Nolte

**UPDATE: “He was beating the walls of the lavatory to the point that the captain called us to see what that was about. They heard it in the cockpit,” said one crew member on the JFK-bound flight who had to deal with the “30 Rock” actor.

“He was asked five times. Everybody is the same. Everyone has to follow the rules, it doesn’t matter who you are,” the employee told The Post. “He was violent, abusive and aggressive.”

Though they originally declined to comment, American Airlines has just released a statement explaining their side of the story as to why the notoriously temperamental Alec Baldwin was thrown off a plane at LAX yesterday:

Since an extremely vocal customer has publicly identified himself as being removed from an American Airlines flight on Tuesday, Dec. 6, we have elected to provide the actual facts of the matter as well as the FAA regulations which American, and all airlines, must enforce. Cell phones and electronic devices are allowed to be used while the aircraft is at the gate and the door is open for boarding. When the door is closed for departure and the seat belt light is turned on, all cell phones and electronic devices must be turned off for taxi-out and take-off. This passenger declined to turn off his cell phone when asked to do so at the appropriate time. The passenger ultimately stood up (with the seat belt light still on for departure) and took his phone into the plane’s lavatory. He slammed the lavatory door so hard, the cockpit crew heard it and became alarmed, even with the cockpit door closed and locked. They immediately contacted the cabin crew to check

Good for them! I’m so tired of seeing companies enabling clowns like this because they’re afraid to get into a slanging match with someone “important”. Way to call the jerk out AA, bravo!

And shouldn’t he be arrested for this sort of behavior?

I read a few of the comments below the article. Most are supportive of AA, or at least agree that Baldwin is a jerk. However, one started making excuses about "well, the rules are silly, etc. etc."

Yeah, maybe the rules about electronics are somewhat arbitrary. There are no technical reasons why you can't use an approved electronic device while waiting in line for departure. However, there are very good human-factors reasons not to make this the norm.

Basically it comes down to jerks like Baldwin. First, there are technical/safety reasons not to risk interference during critical, dynamic transitions for the aircraft (landing & takeoff). The rather arbitrary "door closed, electronics off" rule is in place because it is an easily identifiable event for passengers and crew. If you wait until you're crossing the line onto the active before saying "shut down for departure"... It is a virtual certainty there will be jerks like Baldwin on board that just have to finish their call, their game, whatever. Their life, their little world, is more important than anything some airline employee is trying to tell them...

I have been on flights that are going to be significantly delayed in a "parking lot" on the ramp waiting for a departure slot. The pilots have announced it is ok to use cell phones to call anyone meeting you at the destination and warn them we're xx minutes behind. Then they gave us ample warning that we were getting ready to go. Those were great examples of the crew taking care of their passengers, yet keeping everyone safe.

But when it comes to self-important jerks like Baldwin thinking the rules don't apply to them... I just want to wipe that smug smile right off his pudgy face with my fist.

Gotta wonder if Mr. Baldwin had ingested, injected, or snorted some sort of substance that might cause him to act the way he did.

In today’s world of flight, there is no reason why he wasn’t summarily arrested for a few felonies.

Another reason to require passengers to turn off electronic devices when doors are closed is that-in the event of an incident, such as Baldwins tantrum-the crew would be able to remove the passenger from the plane immediately without having to taxi back to the terminal.

Baldwin’s fortunate my sibling, the law enforcement officer, wasn’t on that flight. My big sib has been asked to administer AAT (Attitude Adjustment Therapy) to unruly passengers in the past whilst traveling by air. There would have been no hesitation to adjust Baldwin’s attitude-esp. after having to sit on a delayed flight.
