Regardless of what ANYONE thinks of Pollard, this should never, ever, ever be discussed as part of a presidential election. Never.

How do you know those secrets didn't ultimately wind up in the hands of the ChiComs?

If you're worried about this 2 1/2 decade old case, shouldn't you be leading the charge to have Bubba and gore strung up? Didn't they give (sell) military, tech secrets galore to the chi coms....who are now developing quite a sophisticated military now - especially their navy, subs and rockets/missiles.

crickets...

And that in a nutshell is all he said. So let us also not fall victim to over-analyzing it.

We need to put things back together with Israel. He’s speaking his mind and random ideas just like he always does. He even said up front that he is not sure he has enough information yet to form a good decision.

In the scheme of things, so what? I’d rather have occasional insight into what a man is thinking and how he thinks rather than someone like Bush that wouldn’t say anything even when crap was raining down all around him. Even when we were begging him not to do the first bailout and he just wouldn’t talk to us.

In case no one noticed, one of Newt’s methods is to say things on a subject showing how he currently sees it and then gauges the public reaction to it. That in itself, is good and not bad.

As him to shut up enough times and you might get what you asked for. You also may not like it.

Compare the open sharing of thoughts that Newt does with Obama’s “most transparent administration in history.”

Now does he still annoy you so much?

He’s pandering to the Jewish vote. But one thing he doesn’t seem to comprehend is that most of the pro-Israel vote is Christian, and most Christians would not vote to pardon Pollard.

Because he didn't leak the information to the Clinton White House. He gave it to Israel.

Nobody Died? NOBODY DIED??!! Have you forgotten about those that were killed by the Soviets when Israel traded our intelligence resources inside Russia for something or other, as was reported at the time, handed over to them by Pollard??

If 70+ % vote for Dems regardless of Israeli policy, then I can’t see why any of them give a rat’s about Pollard

Seems a big non issue to me, with only a downside. Let him rot in jail.

Pollard is a traitor

Yes, and Newt is typically delirious.

Gingrich, listen up. Traitors are very, very bad people who do not deserve clemency of any sort. At all. Ever.

Draft dodger Gingrich has never worn the uniform, and from his softie view of treason, it shows.

“...the secrets he passed to Israel were not that critical”

How do you know that? Unless you know the type and extent of sensitive information that he revealed how can you substantiate that statement?

The State Dept. considers China an ally, and people who actually have been caught spying for them have typically served 1-2 years. In fact Pollard is the only American ever sentenced to life for spying on behalf of an ally.

I googled sentences for spies and came up with this. Obviously it’s biased for Pollard, but enlightening nonetheless.

Right on Brother: Newt keeps shooting himself in the foot.

He is his own worst enemy.

Or rather his big mouth is.

Do you feel the same way about John Walker? He’s been in jail longer than Pollard has.

Pollard was sentenced to life in prison on one count of espionage on March 4, 1987. The prosecutor complied with the plea agreement and asked for “only a substantial number of years in prison;” Judge Aubrey Robinson, Jr., who was not obligated to follow the recommendation of the prosecutor, imposed a life sentence after hearing a “damage-assessment memorandum” from the Secretary of Defense.

In 1987, Pollard began his life sentence. His wife, Anne, was sentenced to five years in prison but was paroled after three and a half years due to health problems. After her parole ended, she emigrated to Israel. Jonathan divorced Anne, stating he believed he was going to be jailed for the remainder of his life and did not want Anne to be bound to him.

At the time of Pollard’s sentencing there was a rule that mandated parole after 30 years of imprisonment for certain prisoners who had maintained a clean record in prison. That parole date would be November 21, 2015. Pollard was also eligible to apply for parole after eight years and six months, although he has not done so to date.

His Federal Bureau of Prisons ID is #09185-016. He is incarcerated in FCI Butner Medium at the Butner Federal Correction Complex in North Carolina. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) projects his release date as November 21, 2015
