Obama on Grim Economy: I Don't Control the Weather
Townhall.com ^ | December 12, 2011 | Katie Pavlich

During an interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, President Obama was asked if he could understand why the American people are frustrated with the lack of economic recovery. Obama responded by saying he "doesn't control the weather."

"No matter how well we're steering the ship, if the boat's rocking back and forth and people are getting sick and, you know, they're being buffeted by the winds and the rain ... if you're asking, 'Are you enjoying the ride right now?' folks are  going to say, 'No.' " Obama said. "People are  going to say, 'You know what? A good captain would have had us in some smooth waters and sunny skies at this point.' And I don't control the weather."

Obama may not control the weather, but he does control what projects and legislation to sign in order to foster an environment that allows the economy to recover. To continue off of the boat analogy, the American economy was a sinking ship in 2009 when Obama was sworn into office and he decided to "fix" it not by bailing water out of the boat, but by pouring more water in. The $800 billion stimulus package is one example. The worst part is that Obama really believes he has been steering well.

And of course, Obama just couldn't help but throwing in some class warfare:

"The problem is, is that our politics has gotten to the point where we can't have an honest conversation about the greatest income inequality since the 1920s, and we can't have an honest conversation about the irresponsibility that resulted in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, without somebody saying that somehow we're being divisive," Obama said. "No, we're being honest about what happened, and we've got to be honest about how we move forward."

Obama also said Americans shouldn't be satisfied with the current economic climate.

"We've gone through an incredibly difficult time in this country. And I would be surprised if the American people felt satisfied right now," Obama told CBS' Steve Kroft in an interview to air on "60 Minutes" on Sunday. "They shouldn't feel satisfied. We've got a lot more work to do in order to get this country and the economy moving in a way that benefits everybody, as opposed to just a few."

So there you have it voters, are you satisfied? Obama says you shouldn't be and with his latest approval at just 41 percent, it doesn't look like the American people have much confidence in the "captain" getting us out of this mess. Why? Obama still believes the government creates jobs, rather than the private sector and small businesses.

No he doesn’t control the weather, so he’ll understand that it’s nothing personal when the coming torrent washes him off his rock and out of the oval office in 11 months. We’ll ask him if he’s enjoying the ride then.

That is funny. The leftist aka progressive blame global warming on people. So people must control the weather.

A good Captian looks at the weather report before leaving port.

He goes around the weather if possible. I do not know of any Captain who would head directly into a Hurricane like this dork has done.

But Obama will tell you with authority its ‘trickle down economics’ that got us into trouble in the first place.

Captain eh....?

Try Captain Woodgate late of the Cutty Sark....

Faced down a mutinous screw with pistol and axe while rounding Cape Horn.....

Used the pistol to hold the crew at bay while he smashed the lifeboats with the axe...

Crew became un-mutinous shortly thereafter.....(no-where else to go for those in Rio Vista)

Yes, I distinctly remember him saying during the Presidential campaign that he could control the weather.

It’s all show and talk. They’re really just looting the economy up until the day the whole system collapses. Ref: JP Morgan’s transfer of 70 trillion derivatives liability to the federal reserve system.

This is Obama putting lipstick on the pig. Next he will try to teach the pig to sing. He has 11 months to do this or at least make it seem like the pig’s grunts sound like singing.

In this effort he will have the able support of the hard core left & lifetime Democrats (30% of the electorate), the unions (including the educationcrats who teach our public school kids), the tort lawyers, the minority grievance groups and the lame street media! With a $billion war chest that he does not need to touch until summer, we are going to have wall-to-wall messaging from then to November.

What a thing to look forward to!

Barack Obama - The Four Year American Handicap.

You may not control the weather, but you sure do make the weather much less bearable!

Pelosi and Reid have controlled Congress since 2007. Every economic indicator has gotten worse since 2007. Obama was in the Senate beginning in 2005. Obama, Reid and Pelosi have ALL been in Washington with significant control of our economy during that time up until the end of last year. They have complete responsibility for our current state of affairs and if Americans are stupid enough to retain them in ANY seat of power in Washington, this “ship” will continue to travel in stormy waters.

We've got a lot more work to do

You don't. We have seen YOUR work and we do not like it. YOUR system will not fix our problems but will, ON PURPOSE, sink this ship.

A good captain does not steer directly into a hurricane on purpose and blame the rough seas on someone else.

Yep. And the system will collapse on the Republicans' watch and the Republicans will be demonized for all eternity after that.

I wonder which captain he’s referring to... Captain Hook? Captain Bligh?
Hopefully, we can retire this captain next year!!
