Yes, yes, Romney has a conflicting schedule and ditto for Ron Paul.

Maybe all the others do too?

DES MOINES, Iowa — The winner of the 2008 Iowa caucuses returned to Des Moines on Wednesday night to host four new presidential contenders in a gathering of social conservatives.

Mike Huckabee asked Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Sen. Rick Santorum, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry to an event at the Hoyt Sherman Place to speak on “protecting the sanctity of human life.”

Several hundred Iowans packed the theater to watch the premiere of a pro-life film and hear the presidential hopefuls’ stance on pro-life issues.

Bachmann said she would repeal all funding for Planned Parenthood.

“As far as I’m concerned, this is a seminal issue of our time — life and what we will do with the issue of life,” Bachmann said.

Gingrich promised bold legislative action.

“I will go up to Congress and asking it to defund Planned Parenthood, money to adoption services to give young women the choice of life rather than the choice of death,” Gingrich said.

Perry touted his accomplishments as governor.

“This year, I was proud to fight for and to sign a state budget defunding Planned Parenthood,” Perry said.

Santorum said the country’s problems begin and end with the sanctity of life.

“This country is based on a moral foundation. Unless we get the moral issues right, we’ll never get the economic issues or foreign policy issues right in this country,” Santorum said.

Huckabee was the evening’s co-host and was the final speaker.

“At conception, a human life begins. And no one but God has the right to end that life prematurely or in any other way besides its natural conclusion,” Huckabee said.

Huckabee also told the crowd while the event is not designed to endorse a particular candidate, the four candidates who attended should be praised for their beliefs.

Just outside Hoyt Sherman Place, the National Organization for Women demonstrated its opposition to Huckabee’s documentary.

Organizers said they want to make sure a woman’s reproductive rights are protected during the 2012 election season.
