High schoolers banned for Tebowing
espn ^ | 12-15-11 | Christopher Hunt

No running in the halls -- and no Tebowing either. That's what one Long Island administration said Wednesday when it suspended a group of high school athletes for replicating Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow's popular pose in the hallway at school. Jordan Fulcoly, Wayne Drexel and brothers Tyler and Connor Carroll of Riverhead High School were all handed a one-day suspension Wednesday, after three days of taking a knee with their foreheads resting on their fists, the same way Tebow does in the end zone and on the sidelines. The news was first reported by Yahoo! Prep Rally earlier Thursday. Riverhead superintendent Nancy Carney said that two of the students suspensions were later rescinded, citing that administrators found that those students were not given the same warnings that the other two were. Tebow has made headlines for the move, a display of his devotion to his Christian faith. The students were not suspended for bringing religion into the school, but instead for clogging the hallway.

The commie piggies are violating the First Amendment rights of these students. The First Amendment is about Religious Freedom. Those who believe that it’s about Freedom from Religion have obviously been doing way too many recreational drugs.

I’ll be interested to see how this LAWN-GUYLAND school will deal with mosleminos whipping out the prayer rug whenever they feel like it in the hallway and gumming up traffic.

My guess is they’ll be going wobbly on the rules due to ‘tolerance’.

That is a BS out right lie.

I assume that the school would respond the same way with the following problem: Muslim students praying in the halls.

What do y’all think?

I wonder if there’s any mooslime kids at the school carrying prayer rugs. Probably been doing their routine unmolested.

The First Amendment is about Religious Freedom. Those who believe that it’s about Freedom from Religion have

It's about both freedom from (state imposed) religion and freedom of religion.

It's not that hard to read:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...

IOW, no FEDERALLY sponsored or supported church" and no banning of any other church/religion, or of religious expression.

In this case the state (school system) is banning religious expression.

They should’ve faced Mecca and banged their heads on the floor and that would’ve been acceptable.

Further down the article, it reads.

“Reports said that the students had been Tebowing all week, starting Monday. It was meant to be a joke, only paying homage to one of pro football’s newest stars.”

So these kids were NOT doing it for religious reasons.

And in fact, you could argue that they are doing it to mock Tim Tebow and mocking Tebow’s beliefs.

On the contrary. The school would detour foot traffic around the praying Muslims so as not to disturb them.

Akin, I suppose, to the knee-up pose sometimes struck by Morgan's Rum fans.

Agreed. That is more likely the motive, mockery rather than faith.

Taking a knee in the middle of a school hallway while people are trying to walk probably isn't too smart. There are more appropriate places to pray or emulate Tebow or mock Tebow or whatever they were doing.

So if they were really truly were praying, where would your “appropriate place” be for them to pray ?
Just curious.

At home or in church would seem ideal. In class would be fine too, if they did it silently in their seats without disrupting the class. Kneeling down in the middle of a school hallway - presumably between classes when other students are trying to use the hallway to walk - is a dumb idea.

give them a prayer room,or the auditorium the same way they do for the islamics.
and yes they most certainly do this for them in some public schools, right along with excused lateness.

The fact that students are punished for this is proof we’ve become a purely secularistic culture. America is finished. The last civilized person to leave, turn out the lights.

I was a high school student in the early 1970s... and I’m a teacher now. Here’s my advice.

Do the Tebow stance every day. Gather together as many students as you can and do it en masse. Go to detention and do it in the detention hall. Then do it again as soon as you get back to class. Keep doing it. Never give up.

And also....

Create a Facebook page mocking your school.
Create a Twitter account and record your every movement.
Contact those in the media who are sympathetic.
Write, publish, photograph, and act out in the community to demonstrate your opinion of what the school is doing.
Write a book, write a poem, write some rap - and publish it.

I’m so tired of the left being able to tell the community what is acceptable and what is not. We need to use the tools and techniques of the left against them. We need to retake the culture and country from them. And, yes, they’ll be vicious in response, but that’s the breaks. Sometimes you have to stand up and fight for what is right.

IMHO

You’ve never been in a hallway crowded with students going to class, have you? —at least not in recent memory, anyway. Do you know what happens when hallways clog? It’s an opportunity for fights to erupt, for on thing. Your comment is thoughtless. Actually, “ignorant” is a better word.

I’d say that blocking the hallway and interfering with others to gratify their own personal desires is pretty liberal, wouldn’t you? OW does it.

Yep. I'd say this is far from any kind of sudden outbreak of faith. The little darlings are cruelly mocking the expression of faith.
