Congress overturns incandescent light bulb ban
The Washington Times ^ | December 16, 2011 | Stephen Dinan

Congressional negotiators struck a deal Thursday that overturns the new rules that were to have banned sales of traditional incandescent light bulbs beginning next year.

That agreement is tucked inside the massive 1,200-page spending bill that funds the government through the rest of this fiscal year, and which both houses of Congress will vote on Friday. Mr. Obama is expected to sign the bill, which heads off a looming government shutdown.

Congressional Republicans dropped almost all of the policy restrictions they tried to attach to the bill, but won inclusion of the light bulb provision, which prevents the Obama administration from carrying through a 2007 law that would have set energy efficiency standards that effectively made the traditional light bulb obsolete.

The bill doesn’t actually amend the 2007 law, but does prohibit the administration from spending any money to carry out the light bulb standards — which amounts to at least a temporary reprieve.

So, 200 lightbulbs are saved and we lost the battle against illegal immigration.

It would have been so simple to just stick an "e verify" requirement into the Tax Code ~ that's where any employee who isn't passed by e-verify becomes one whose salary or wages are no longer a legitimate business expense for the employer.

Are they awake over in the House?

Day late!

Home Depot stopped ordering 100 watt bulbs in October.
Who knows when G.E. stopped making them?

And I just stocked up on 100w and 50-100-150 watt bulbs.
Not a lot of them but several year’s worth.

Sounds like a market opportunity. Maybe we should pool our money and open a light bulb plant quick?

Sure there's a reason. Adam Smith's invisible hand put them there so that he can redistribute them to those who didn't stock up for a reduced price! (Ducking.)

Well, great! I am so relieved that you could find something to bitch about!

I was up most of the night worrying that you wouldn't be able to find something. I will never underestimate you again...promise!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

That means the cases of lightbulbs I have been stocking up with over the last couple years to sell on the black market when the ban goes into effect are now essentially worthless. Curse you Republicans for ruining my retirement plans!!!

GE was one of the big “pushers” of the Curly Fry Lightbulbs because they stood to make a lot of money on their sale.

Everyone should know that that $2 CFL that you buy is subsidized by another $25 of your own tax money.

Not to worry.

Mexico will begin manufacturing light bulbs soon.

...and they'll explode when you switch them on.

Me too, hahahaha!

I have several different plastic crates filled with a true variety of incandescent bulbs because I would rather go out in a hail of gunfire before buying the poisonous, Mercury loaded corkscrew bulbs.
