House agrees payroll tax deal as Republicans cave in to Obama

House speaker John Boehner is set to sign an offer from Obama to accelerate negotiations.

Republicans in the House of Representatives have capitulated in the showdown over the payroll tax, handing Barack Obama an important victory going into election year.

Under pressure from other senior Republicans for blocking a bill that would extend tax cuts to millions of Americans, the House speaker, John Boehner, is backing away from his insistence that any deal must cover a full year.

A deal agreed by Republicans and Democrats in the Senate on Saturday covers two months, to allow further negotiations in January. It appears that Boehner will sign up to an offer from Obama to accelerate these negotiations.

The deal means that, after a year of humiliation at the hands of congressional Republicans who have repeatedly threatened to close down the federal government, Obama is close to a much-needed victory.

The decisive moment came when ther Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, after days of silence, lined up behind Barack Obama and the Democrats.

Boehner was blocking passage of a bill that would extend tax breaks to 160 million Americans, a measure introduced by Obama last year to help stimulate the US economy. If the bill is not passed by 31 December, American taxpayers face cuts in their pay of an average of $40 every two weeks. About 1.3 million people stand to lose unemployment benefit.

And now the emboldened rats are giving High Fives all around.

Time for another Hill TEA Party Rally to give the wimps some backbone.

"Boehner just put the nail in his coffin.."

Or in ours. How can we hope to win with this inept political leadership and we continue with the savaging of our various Presidential candidates by some Republicans with the gleeful assistance of the media and will probably nominate one of the old guard to run against Dear Leader. It is just so depressing to see the disarray of the forces that have to unite to defeat Obsma.

Gas prices keep going up so now we have $40. to pay higher fuel prices. Do they think we are all stupid?

Of course they know we are that stupid. Come the beginning of the year, that $40 is going to go straight to the utility companies when energy costs "necessarily skyrocket" because The Enemy (in this case the EPA) is deliberately destroying the energy sector.

Haven't you read Jeb's "The Right to Rise" in the Wall Street Journal recently? A brilliant article!

Go Jeb in 2016!

Boehner statement: "We will ask the House and Senate to approve this agreement by unanimous consent before Christmas."

Methinks, at minimum, Sen. Jim Demint (R-SC) will prevent the approval from being unanimous.

We can’t force media to print truth. We can’t force media to provide opposition.

Media in this country is dead and molderin’ in the grave.

That’s because DeMint is pretty much the only conservative in the Senate.

Why do we have to get all our breaking news from The Guardian or the UK Daily News?

Or are these tabloids full of it.

I was never comfortable with the way SS withholding was marketed. Any thinking person knows that even thought they call it an employer part and an employee part, in reality it is 100% paid by the employee. Because the sheeple don’t directly see the employer part, they stupidly assume it is “free money”. Eventually, reality will force the gummit to raise SS taxes, and you can bet they will do it “fairly” by raising BOTH the employer and employee part. End result, a overall increase over the pre-cut levels with most of it hidden from the masses, who will never understand that it will come out of their future raises, their future job opportunities, or both.

I would like to see Congress pass one or both of the following:

-Eliminate all tax withholding for W-2 employees and make them all file quarterlies, just like the 1099 people do. I want to see EVERYONE write the United States Treasury a check every 3 months. Maybe a few would start thinking about how the cost of government affects them personally.

-Add new optional informational boxes to the W-2 where the employer can list every tax/fee/charge that is levied on a per employee basis. Let everyone know much it REALLY costs to have employees.

Ain’t gonna happen, though.

The more I digest this fiasco, the more I think this was done to make obama look stupid. As someone pointed out - we get an extra $20 in our paycheck for a lousy two months, social security gets short changed and obama leaves for his $4 million vacation. I think he just may come out looking like the loser in all this.

Obama Wins !! Tax payers lose 10 months of tax cuts !!

Right. And those poor working people will not see it extended for the remaining 10 months unless King Obama uses this to gain votes. And you can bet this will be part of the effort to get King Obama reelected. And Bonehead is too dumb to see he has been had.
