Nothing, apparently, gets between a man and his Air Jordans. In the latest episode of retail gone horribly awry, crowds of unruly shoppers across the country fought among themselves, scuffled with police, upended Christmas decorations and broke down doors leading up to todays release of the most recent Michael Jordan-inspired basketball shoe. The unrest stretched from suburban Seattle to Jersey City, where a man was stabbed seven times as he waited in line to buy the $180 sneakers at the Newport Centre Mall, police said. The victim, set upon by several teenagers, was recovering at Jersey City Medical Center.

Did that guy, who got stabbed, get his Air Jordans?
I’d hate to think he went to all that trouble and didn’t get a pair.
A 20-year-old Jersey City man was stabbed seven times last night during a fight among several of the 300 holiday shoppers lined up to buy the coveted Nike Air Jordan XI Concord sneakers at the Newport Centre Mall, police said.
The Duncan Avenue man, attacked at about 10:19 p.m., suffered non-life-threatening wounds, police said.
When police arrived at the mall, they found the victim outside, drifting in and out of consciousness and leaning against a concrete column in a puddle of blood, reports said.
At the Jersey City Medical Center, the victim told police he was in the line to buy the sneakers at a Footlocker inside the mall and was in front of the Children’s Place when he got into an argument with another man in line, reports said. When the two began to fight, four to six other men joined the attack, reports said.
The man said he thought he was being punched but realized he was being stabbed with knives, reports said. He managed to get away, staggered out of the mall and collapsed near the Hudson-Bergen light rail station, reports said.
The victim described his attackers as being in their late teens, reports said. Police said they found numerous blood trails, adding that the victim was stabbed in the back, shoulder, leg and arm.
The sneakers, last released five years ago, went on sale at midnight and are copies of the shoes Michael Jordan wore during his 1994-’96 comeback. They retail for $180 for men’s sizes; $120 for kids’ sizes.
Bunch of damned Sarah Palin worshipping Tea Partiers no doubt.
Drudgereport does not list the stabbing among the incidents. Maybe he missed my email?
Victims described attackers as teens. Really Jersey Journal & JC POlice? Really?
I don’t think the victim would have used the word, ‘teen’.
I think he would have used ‘homie’ instead.
Do not stop and ask for direction to Bayonne on MLK Drive at 12:30 am *shesh* .
Fighting over the latest sneaker or whatever is anything but new, but it never ceases to confound me. Is it really that *bleeping* important to have a status symbol? And it *is* all about having the latest status symbol and the bragging rights that come with it. Just blows my mind.
People who put value on their their things are not putting value on themselves. They are dependent on the changeable and unreliable, not the unchangeable and reliable.
Obama’s voting blocks in action....
I’d like to know where ppl in Jersey City are getting the money for $180 sneakers... on second thought, no, I don’t. I have a pretty good idea.
well, one person car jacked and got $50 and a camera. They sell drugs along MLK as well. :)
see street view of Claremont Ave and MLK Drive in Jersey City- day street view.
And how many of these shoppers buying $180 shoes are on food stamps?
The shoes retail for $180. Thats 40 five round boxes of Remington (Amm-8174) 12 gauge 2 3/4 #1 buckshot. Id rather have the ammo.
Can you buy them with your EBT card ?
Now there is a "description" which sould make it easy for anyone to help bring them to justice./s
Wanda Taylor-Amaker of Jersey City returned home disappointed from her attempt to purchase the shoes in Journal Square at Lee Brothers Sneakers on the Square, after she said the store told her the shoes sold for $350 a pair, even though other retailers were selling the pair for $180.
It was horrible. No one wants to go through this kind of stress to find out the price is so different than what other stores are charging, said Taylor-Amaker. I feel disappointed I couldnt get them for my nephew and son as a nice present, but thats way out of my price range.
A man who identified himself as the owner of the store said over the phone that while franchise stores may charge the suggested box price, independently owned stores can charge prices they see fit. He added he sold the sneakers for $250 a pair.
Its one of those sneakers that has the demand for those willing to pay the price, he said.
Can’t wait to read the actual police report describing the suspects in detail.
If anyone doubts that there is a B/W war coming, they better re-think their position.
Stay armed, stay safe.
Sneakers, what happeneds when there is no food
I guess when I see a pair of Air Jordans walking down the street I can smile to myself with the knowledge that I helped pay for them. /s
While I buy $50 New Balance.
For $180 I can buy 6 pairs of sneakers!!
How come the race of the people involved is not mentioned? It’s obviously a racial thing and yet: customers, victims, teens, shoppers, consumers customers, victims, teens, shoppers, consumers customers, victims, teens, shoppers, consumers customers, victims, teens, shoppers, consumers
What’s America afraid of? It’s like the French calling the Muslims burning the banlieues “youths”... By default, you’ll never get a handle on the problem.
Can you use the Access Card to buy Sneakers?
Likely 100%, and I'll tell you exactly what they'll say if questioned on taking food stamps AND paying $180 for sneakers, "But that's my money."
Yikes...after what it takes to get a pair, I'd be surprised if anyone would be walking down the street with them on....talk about a wearing a bulls-eye on your back (feet ?)..
Eric Holder is suing South Carolina for trying to implement a Voter ID Law,One of the Main reasons Holder and his ilk trot out is the poor cant afford and ID card therefore it is racism. I would like to propose inserting an ID card in every pair of Air Jordans. Problem Solved

Yikes...after what it takes to get a pair, I’d be surprised if anyone would be walking down the street with them on....talk about a wearing a bulls-eye on your back (feet ?)..”............
Why don’t we just give Air Jordans to half of them and ammo to the other half......when the smoke clears, all that would be needed is to arrest the remaining 50%. That just might work. Take away the shoes and start all over again. Pretty soon the problem is GONE! (Obviously i’m dreaming)
“Can you buy them with your EBT card ?”
No, but I don’t doubt that this story is related to the robbery a few miles to the west of a toll plaza on the Garden State Parkway a day or two ago.
You can’t make this stuff up.
I do recall in previous years people being mugged for their hip sneakers.
Its the same thing as owning a pit bull the shoes make them feel empowered.
After stories such as these have been coming out over the last few years, I must assume that the store managers responsible for these sales promotions are idiots.
Fighting over the latest sneaker or whatever is anything but new, but it never ceases to confound me.
I suppose such externals are important to a person who has nothing substantive on the inside.
The last time these ‘working families’ got this motivated they were parading on behalf of a cop killer.
Ron Paul should have someone ghost-write a newsletter about this.
In a mall or on the street, anyone wearing a pair will become a victim and the shoes stolen. Savages, nothing but ignorant savages.
There is a difference between poor people and rich people. Poor people are not rich people without money. Poor people hope to buy happiness from things—new toys—symbols—in this case shoes. Does it make them happy—yes, for a short time only. They do not look to the future—its all about the now. The rich man can put off his happiness for something lasting that will make him money—Like buy a computer or go to school. Its a different life philosophy.
Post of the month!
It is beyond me why pricey shoes are so important to the criminal
Someone’s marketing department needs a kick.
“After stories such as these have been coming out over the last few years, I must assume that the store managers responsible for these sales promotions are idiots.”
They’re laughing all the way to the bank - I doubt they lose a moment’s sleep over the stabbing.
From the replies:
Why dont we ever hear about these people fighting over some work boots?
If it wasn’t for the greedy right wingers this man would have been able to wait to buy them on eBay for $500.
You know how to starve them out?
Hide their food stamps under their work boots.
