"A Gingrich campaign official prior to the move by the Republican Party of Virginia said the problem is how the rules are set up, arguing that the party is, for apparently the first time, cross-checking the addresses that signature-givers gave against the electronic voter database file for accuracies. A name without a proper address match was tossed, the official said."

And he just may. We shall see.
[I dont trust the guy(Romney) any more than I can throw him. ]
Well the guy spent his political career tricking Massachusetts democrats into voting for him..
and NOW he’s trying to trick republicans into doing the same..
He’s a con artist..
I see no problem at all with Newt and RickP joining forces......LOL.
Time will tell.....
I am just devastated. Heard on Fox News that VA rules do not allow a write in during primaries and that going to court wont matter either? the chosen one Romney is being crammed down our throats...just like when our mothers made us take a dose of bad medicine. I wont vote if it is Romney or Paul. RIGGED election’
Katie, don’t be devestated, and don’t believe everything you hear either. This is just a minor squirmish in a huge war that will take decades to win. We have just begun to fight. We will lose some battles and win some. It ain’t over till we give up.
From what I have investigated so far, her is my conclusion:
The way the law is written does NOT demand no write ins for primaries, it just allows their exclusion. In fact, it provides that write ins have to be accepted for elections. Going to court might work, if the rules are dienfranchising the majority of the voters.
No direct evidence, but isn’t it OB’s MO to eliminate opponents in the primary.
In many folks mind this is going to narrow the electable candidates down to Mitt and Paul.
Newt’s case was his electibility. Not getting on the ballot is a serious blow.
And theyll lose. The VA gop took the rule book and beat them to death with it. VA courts arent particularly receptive to these kinds of arguments.
Yes, and Americans aren't particularly tolerant of bureaucrats.
I think both Gingrich and Perry have to challenge.
I sure hope you’re right that Gingrich will dominate. I despise Romney, Rove and the GOP-E.
Merry CHRISTmas, CainConservative!!!
and NOW hes trying to trick republicans into doing the same..
Hes a con artist..”
LOL. A RepubliCON. Ha Ha.
You need to go to “Face Reality School.”
It has never been challenged until now and is very much in trouble. On several counts.
“If he only collected 20+ percent, then he has only himself to blame.”
Yes and no. Yes, he should have paid closer attention to details, but I don’t think that any candidate can reasonably anticipate every sort of curve ball that is going to be thrown at them.
And also, what is the compelling interest in making access to the VA ballot so restrictive? To save twenty dollars in programming costs? To save ten dollars worth of ink? No, it’s plainly to trip up candidates who don’t have the access or resources to navigate the ballot access requirements.
This appears to be a glitch in the computer system designed to validate the signatures, for all the candidates.
Come on “P”, we need your input here, as well as your legal action and expertise!
Didn't Virginia have in the previous election only the names of McCain and Huckabee on the primary ballot?
Like I said, I canvassed for professionals. Guess what, we won.
RLY? Databases versus voter intent (addresses not in sync with '08 or 2010 database)?
It's worth a challenge. Heretofore I thought the addresses were missing.
Merry Christmas RKBA Democrat!!!!
Merry CHRISTmas again to you too my FRiend!!
Perhaps this can be carried over to national elections. Personally I hope Newt can garner support for a strong write-in. To have just Romney with his RINO baggage and Paul with his anti-Semitic and love of Muslim baggage is a whole bit of none conservative hogwash and candidate exclusion this is not to say all other candidates don’t have baggage. Hard to understand why 10,000 is such a sacred number.
It’s inexcusable if you are leading in the polls to not get the boots on the ground and the signitures.
Total amateur hour.
If he can’t GOTV here, what makes you think he’s going to be able to GOTV against Obama?
I forgot to wish you and your’s a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS, AND a MERRY NEW YEAR! (You Good lady FReeper you!)
Data bases are only as accurate as the people doing data entry.
I would challenge for actual verification.
It could be done in a week.
Plenty of time to print ballots.
Merry CHRISTmas back at ya and to all the conservatives at this site. (And even to the liberal Rombot trolls here who I am sure will be banned soon.)
Merry Christmas P-Marlowe!!!
Eggnog over here.
Not sure. All I know is that he’s leading, and it’s his home state.
And he still didn’t take the time to get enough to overcome the validation process.
I’ve held off my wishes to you, figuring we’d be on the same threads before one of us signs out. :)
BLESSED & MERRY CHRISTmas!!!!
Bush 41 endorsed Romney and dissed both Newt and Perry.......
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Former President George H. W. Bush on Thursday endorsed Mitt Romney and distanced himself from Newt Gingrich, in a move that will surely be a conservative rubber stamp for the former Massachusetts governor's campaign. "cited past conflict with Gingrich as a reason he had trouble backing the former House speaker."
"He [Gingrich] was there, right outside the Oval Office. I met with all the Republican leaders, all the Democratic leaders," Bush recalled to the Chronicle. "The plan was, we were all going to walk out into the Rose Garden and announce this deal. Newt was right there. Got ready to go out in the Rose Garden, and I said, 'Where's Gingrich?' Went up to Capitol Hill. He was here a minute ago. Went up there and started lobbying against the thing."
Bush, who lives in Houston, was careful to say that he likes Texas Gov. Rick Perry, but said that Perry's campaign doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
Your candidate couldn’t keep his “drawers” on!
Seems to be working as designed.
Politics is a dirty game. Newt, he of the massive experience just got his entire wardrobe lifted off him. It’s a pity.
>> Addresses did not match their database! Voters move in between elections!
Not only that, but I bet they have a dumb (or selectively smart?) algorithm that thinks “101 First Street” and “101 FIRST ST” are different addresses.
I smell either an idiot, or a rat.
So the former speaker of the house and the longest serving governor of Texas are rank amateurs?
No, something else is going on here, and it looks like VA has unreasonable requirements to get on the ballot.
Uh, I’m not a Newt supporter. Sorry!
Maybe check with Calista? ;)
Well they are saying on Twitter that Romney’s campaign people were some of the ones verifying the other candidates signatures.
I’m all but certain both Gingrich and Perry will challenge.
They have nothing to lose by challenging and everything to gain.
Thanks! You too myFRiened! Let’s join forces and make this work where it counts! (And a very Merry Christmas to you and your good family!)
Or “101 1st St”
Virginia Republican primary, 2008
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia...
The 2008 Virginia Republican primary took place on February 12, 2008. This was an open primary with 63 delegates (60 pledged delegates) at stake in a winner take all format. The District of Columbia and Maryland both held primaries on the same day, referred to as the "Potomac primary".
John McCain won the primary, receiving all of Virginia's delegates to the 2008 Republican National Convention.
Official Results Candidate Votes Percentage Delegates
John McCain 244,829 50.04% 60
Mike Huckabee 199,003 40.67% 0
Ron Paul 21,999 4.50% 0
Mitt Romney* 18,002 3.68% 0
Fred Thompson* 3,395 0.69% 0
Rudy Giuliani* 2,024 0.41% 0
Total 489,252 100% 60
If they collected only 20+ over what they needed, then yes, this was amateur hour.
Cain couldn't keep his pants on.
Yep. I agree with you.
Merry Christmas, Nervous Tick!!!
Yes, and Americans aren't particularly tolerant of bureaucrats.
Life, not just intolerance of crats, but Court's favor participation. Look at liberal Florida SpCt in 2000, or conservative Alaska SpCt in 2010— always siding with voter inclusion.
Imo, the Va Court will allow time for verification- if not, the complainants will find a way to bring it into the Fed system. IMO, the omitted candidates have the better argument.
“P” told me on another thread that he is indeed filing a legal challenge to this stupidity.
You know all about the “Rules are Rules” stupidity that was flooding that thread. “P” will have a better platform here among all us “Newt Worshippers”! (LOLOLOLOLOLO)
Watch Va try to apply some arbitrary filing dead line like 24 hrs, during the Christmas holiday in hopes that a challenge can be disqualified because the campaigners were at home with the family rather than filing legal challenges on Christmas eve.
