China launched a super-rapid test train over the weekend which is capable of travelling 500 kilometers per hour, state media said on Monday, as the country moves ahead with its railway ambitions despite serious problems on its high-speed network. The train, made by a subsidiary of CSR Corp Ltd, China's largest train maker, is designed to resemble an ancient Chinese sword, the official Xinhua news agency reported.
It "will provide useful reference for current high-speed railway operations," it quoted train expert Shen Zhiyun as saying.

At least they’re using the technology.

I can’t wait for the body count.

You beat me to it.
To continue that headline:
... manufactured with factories, “free traders” sent to that communist nation so they could rip off Americans and make fast, easy money.
That was once, called “treason”.
China stole TECHNOLOGY from Amtrak???
Why do we need to use it??
Big deal if they stole rail technology.. We won’t be using it at all..
Why? In China the gubbermint can make the people ride the train, while in the U.S. the people aren't ready to give up their freedom of using their vehicles at their destination.
ML/NJ
It’s........A........Train..... correct me if I am wrong, but haven’t these things been around since the 1800’s???? so they made one go fast... big deal, it still rides around on tracks....this is only newsworthy to the convert america to europe liberal hippies...
The problem isn't getting a train to go 300 MPH. The real engineering is getting them to stop.
That is my thinking.. They stole from Amtrak??
My point was “free trade” has made China a technologically capable growing and rather dictatorial adversary capable of quickly exploiting technology and manufacturing.
That is what America was once capable of.
You know. The Manhattan Project.
Apollo. The moon landing. The things which illustrated to us, and the world, America is a great country.
We gave those things away - to a huge communist nation.
What could possibly go wrong.
If they stole anyone’s technology (and it’s likely they did) that country is probably Japan.
With the Chicom commitment to QA, this should be fun.
In their govt’s view, they have plenty to spare and won’t worry about the losses.
Get with the program. Treason has been redefined to include wanting small government, low taxes, secure borders, believing the second amendment refers to an individual right, and putting America first.
[ The problem isn’t getting a train to go 300 MPH. The real engineering is getting them to stop. ]
NAh.. stop the power and soon you’ll stop..
It is just for my entertainment purposes anyways.
Right, it is good duty of an American Patriot to buy a car from Government Motors or anything high priced union made crap..
Let them. Its a complete freaking waste.
They have trouble getting anyone to ride the trains they have now. So a faster train will bring more people? Only in a socialist corrupt system ...
Stolen tech: does China have anyother kind?
Thank a Free Trader Communist every time the Communist Chinese make an advancement from stolen American ingenuity
Of course, the Commie Chinese version of this high speed train will crack up once it hits 350 K/h, but I am sure a Free Trade Commie will have some spin about that
Not a big deal.. They stole high speed rail technology and quite frankly they did not steal it from us..
Ridership on high speed rail in China is only about 800,000 people per day (292 million per year). That is no more than Delta, Southwest and American Airlines combined. Clearly this is an old, outdated technology that will soon go the way of the horse and buggy.
I rather like the Japanese hight speed trains but I haven’t the same trust for Chinese engineering and construction. Corruption and cutting corners is ingrained in the Chinese crony system.
“Why would China steal from Amtrak??”
-
That’s a bit like asking why Sarah Palin claimed she could see Russia from her house.
Is it more patriotic to purchase ChiCom products that have killed many Americans for low standards, and is it more patriotic to purchase ChiCom products that will profit the ChiCom government which the tax will be used to crush the rights of Chinese christians?
Right, it is good duty of an American Patriot to buy a car from Government Motors or anything high priced union made crap..
Right...it is the good duty of an American Patriot to shrug off American ingenuity and quality because part of the chain may be slightly socialist-influenced...while instead go support the Communist Chinese. Ni Hao, Chairman Mao
That is like putting out a small grease fire with napalm
China is also just a bit more densely populated than the US.
They need this in India. move loads fast and quick too..
Can’t wait for pics of 100 Indians hanging onto a car.. oops.. 99.. as it picks up speed.
To me it is no big deal.. Passenger rail in America is dead.. So why complain about it??
The factories were sent or sold? Its treason to sell unneeded equipment to China?
I would not describe millions of Americans fired when their jobs were sold to the Chi-coms, as “unneeded”.
You would, because you are part of the problem.
Correction:
“millions of Americans fired when their jobs were GIVEN AWAY FOR FREE to the Chi-coms.”
Reminds me of the time I taught my brother how to ski.
Showed him how to put on the boots and skis...how to turn, keep his weight forward etc...
After about a hour of instruction, he states,
“This is all fine, how do I stop?”
I looked at him for a moment and replyed,
“fall down, you’ll stop...eventually” :)
I get it. We need to adopt the Chinese model. We just need a little more government diktat and we will be fine.
China isn’t quick about anything. What is it you think they are quick with. Rail? Wow they can kill their people with impunity while they experiment with getting high speed rail right.
Great model to pick. By the way the Chinese have yet to put a man on the moon and it has been 50 years...real quick.
The bomb? The one were we took the secrets from the Germans? the on that North Korea, India, and Pakistan all have? Not sure that means they are great and we are weak.
I am tired of all the China scaremongering which can all be solved by giving up my freedoms and letting Obama and Geithner solve our problems.
China is simply taking advantage of the problems we have created for ourselves. Lets focus on the here and now. Lets drill, frack, build, invest, buy, and sell freely and let each individual keeps the rewards of his own efforts free from government interference. do that and China will be a footnote and just a highly useful supplier to our Liberty loving Capitalist machine.
Exactly. I’ve ridden the high speed trains in China (from Shanghai to Nanjing) and they’re a lot of Siemens units. China paid the Germans and Japanese to come in, show them how to build the systems, how to lay the rail, and to provide a few hundred cars.
Then China began duplicating.
Nothing I’d seen in China reminded me at all of any AMTRAK train or system I’ve ever seen... European and Japanese, sure - but not American.
It looks cool. Don't know how nice it'd look after derailing at 300+ mph. Does look cooler than the trains we've got here (and with gasoline around $8.25 per gallon, I'll take the train, thanks).
a train or anything else traveling at this speed along the ground is just plain stupid. Too many things can go wrong as far as things getting in the way.
We must be getting closer to town.
How can you tell?
We're hitting more people.
Considering we have one of the worst train systems in the world, why would they try to steal our technology?
The lesson is, that, until America can achieve the labor costs of China, we will never be able to afford a high tech society.
Who in hell cares whether the technology was “stolen?” China is using it, while we’re not. The future belongs to those who take risks. Let the meek inherit the Earth - it’s all they deserve.
CA high speed LA-SF derailed. The technology and know-how is there but prohibitive labor costs. Communist China has no unions. Rich in irony.
Willie Green would be proud.
What happens when a water buffalo stand on the tracks in front of one of those? Will the nose crumple or is it an armored ram?
