TSA screenings aren't just for airports anymore

Reporting from Charlotte, N.C.— Rick Vetter was rushing to board the Amtrak train in Charlotte, N.C., on a recent Sunday afternoon when a canine officer suddenly blocked the way.

Three federal air marshals in bulletproof vests and two officers trained to spot suspicious behavior watched closely as Seiko, a German shepherd, nosed Vetter's trousers for chemical traces of a bomb. Radiation detectors carried by the marshals scanned the 57-year-old lawyer for concealed nuclear materials.

When Seiko indicated a scent, his handler, Julian Swaringen, asked Vetter whether he had pets at home in Garner, N.C. Two mutts, Vetter replied. "You can go ahead," Swaringen said.

The Transportation Security Administration isn't just in airports anymore. TSA teams are increasingly conducting searches and screenings at train stations, subways, ferry terminals and other mass transit locations around the country.

Roving security teams increasingly visit train stations, subways and other mass transit sites to deter terrorism. Critics say it's largely political theater.

That whole TSA crew in royal blue reminds me of the junior varsity teams in high school. The varsity CBP officers at the airport put those bumbling amateurs to shame. Those CBP guys/gals know their business.

Now, that's great.
I'll feel a lot safer when they start profiling, specially middle eastern types.

Most politicians are complicit with this. Most voters are too dumbed-down to care.

I’m not in favor of political theater, but I have a hard time understanding the opposition that frequently appears on this board to the very idea that there have to be searches of luggage and passengers on public transportation, especially airplanes. It is necessary. It’s necessary, of course, because of Islamist terrorism. But it is necessary, and it seems silly or worse to blame the gubmint for that need. And I yield to no-one in my lack of respect for the current occupant of the White House.
I heard a while ago someone say that the only thing the Arab world has contributed to modern civilization is the metal detector. Seems about right to me. But that’s where the blame lies, not with the TSA.

Give it time for “house calls.” Amerika is a police state. Cameras everywhere. The 4th Amendment rendered meaningless. Its time for Revolution.

The gubmint brought over Islamists intentionally and knowing full well that this would create an excuse for Police State in the minds of people like you. The government continues to flood us with Islamists to further its goal of Police State.

I was in Union Station in Chicago last week and there was a TSA guy with a dog (a mutt) wearing a “Do Not Pet” vest walking around sniffing for bombs. The dog was wagging his tail and having the time of his life.
