Another Year for Weapons (Tears from the Grey Lady)
New York Times ^ | December 28, 2011

Posted on 12/29/2011 8:59:21 AM PST by Second Amendment First

The F.B.I. reports that gun dealers submitted the names of almost half-a-million customers in the six days before Christmas, with December on its way to surpassing November, which had a record tally of 1,534,414 names submitted for background checks for criminal convictions and mental health issues. Only a little more than 1 percent of buyers are typically rejected by federally licensed gun dealers. No one knows how many more firearms were purchased through the gun-show loophole that enables black marketeering.

The F.B.I. data are particularly grim given the approaching anniversary of the shooting rampage in Tucson that left Representative Gabrielle Giffords gravely shot in the head, six people dead, including a federal judge, and 13 others wounded. In the nation’s shock and grief, politicians vowed gun reforms, like a ban on the 33-round assault clips that enabled the shooter to attack a crowd in an instant, improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent individuals with histories of mental illness — like the shooter in Tucson — from acquiring guns.

None of these have been enacted as the nation heads toward the end of another year of almost 100,000 people shot or killed with a gun. There’s been a hearing for a worthy Senate bill that strengthens the background check and applies it to all gun sales, but the House is poised to swat it down. The gun lobby, fairly crowing, claims the spike in gun sales is because more people are feeling the need to protect themselves — even though the latest F.B.I. data show a 6 percent drop in violent crimes. A raft of studies have found that the presence of guns greatly increased the likelihood of homicide and suicide in households.

More guns on the street, and a six percent drop in violent crime. I don't find that grim at all. As in History socialist takeovers tend to lead to Mass Murders sometimes in the tens of millions, I find the increase in guns to be rather comforting. If the present crop of Socialists are so brain dead to be able to convince themselves they can spend there way out of a down turn in the economy, they are brain dead enough to decide to have a “purge for the good of the people” like all the other Socialist movements.

I for one don't like the idea of massive debt, or massive death.

Three cheers for an Armed Citizenry!

“No one knows how many more firearms were purchased through the gun-show loophole that enables black marketeering.”

Count on the NY Slimes to be dishonest, partisan, and inflammatory. THERE IS NO GUNSHOW LOOPHOLE! FFL holders selling at gun shows must do all the paperwork and background checks they do in their stores. Private citizens can sell personal guns with no paperwork or background check, just like they do anywhere else. I really don't think it's a coincidence “liberal” and “lie” both begin with li.

In the United States, we are experiencing more of a “downturn in the economy”. We are having our industrail, manufacturing, and agriculture base being systemically destroyed. That is far more serious than a “downturn in the economy” because, in the past when we experienced a downturn, the base was still intact.

That’s a pretty handy guide. I recently swapped out my .357 revolver for a 9mm semi (15 round magazine) for carrying in my car because the nature of the threat has change: I am more likely to encounter a mob than a single carjacker these days.

A 6% drop in violent crimes with more guns on the street tells me that an armed society is a society that has less crime in it.

However the Times is trying to infer the exact opposite.

Maybe they should look a how Britains crime rate soared when they outlawed guns.

"...another year of almost 100,000 people shot or killed with a gun."

The NYT reports this factoid as though causality or intention did not matter, which for Liberals, it often does not.

Nonetheless, it is a fabrication. The actual figures for 2011 are not yet complete nor have they been published. However, according to the Centers for Disease Control and also the National Center for Health Statistics, firearm injuries in the United States has averaged 32,300 deaths annually between 1980 and 2006, and have generally been declining since 1993.

Stories you'll NEVER read about in the NYTimes:

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent non-white individuals with histories of mental illness from voting.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent female individuals with histories of mental illness from voting.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent female individuals with histories of mental illness from having abortions.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent gay individuals with histories of mental illness from marrying.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent individuals with histories of mental illness from receiving cruel and unusual punishment.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent individuals with histories of mental illness from receiving a fair trial by jury.

...improvements in the federal background check system and to have more states track and prevent individuals with histories of mental illness from exercising free speech.

EVERYTHING but the 2nd Amendment is always a RIGHT, whether it's in the Consititution or not.

“...another year of almost 100,000 people shot or killed with a gun.”

They’re using the rhetorical “or” to inflate perceived fatalities with those “shot (at?)

They could also say “...another year of almost 10,000,000 people worried by, shot or killed with a gun.”

Consider that many of the shooting were self-inflicted, or justifiable self-defense or law-enforcement action.

That’s right - because Liberals are mystics who think that guns are fired without cause or intention, as though their very presence creates a risk regardless of human direction. If you think through the consequence of that belief, you will understand that liberals do not trust other people to act rationally nor to create objective laws to deal with those who do not.

Yes! It also had a combat trigger, combat sights, combat grips, and fired “high powered” 9MM ammunition. If we wait long enough it’ll become one of those Kalashnikov AK47 automatic assault rifles which fires bullets forever with just one squeeze of the trigger.

I was waiting in my high school girlfriend’s living room before our date. Her Dad walked in with a pistol and sat down.
“Do you know what this is?” he asked me.
“Looks like a 44 magnum to me,” I replied. I know my pistols.
“Nope”, he said. “This is a panty pistol.”
“A panty pistol?”
“Yep. If my daughter’s pantys drop, so does the hammer on this pistol. Do you understand me?”
“Perfectly.”
His daughter and I went to the movie and then parked in the driveway at her home.
“He may have a panty pistol”, I said, “But I didn’t hear anything about a shorts shotgun, so I guess my pants can come down.”
Well, not only did he have an itchy trigger finger, he had ears like a german shepherd. The outside light came on and there he was on the front porch waving that cannon around. Nothing puts a damper on a romantic evening like the threat of lead perforating your epidermis. I screamed. He must have thought it was his daughter. He was running towards the truck and all I could see was my life flashing before my eyes, and since I was in high school, it was like a short documentary.
“Get out! Get out!” I screamed.
“Are we still going to the prom?” she asked.
“If I’m out of the hospital by then!”
The truck wouldn’t start.
He pointed the pistol at me.
“Say your prayers Romeo!”
I did the honorable thing and passed out.
When I came to, he had taped me to an apple tree. There was an apple on my head.
“Do you know the story about William Tell?, he inquired.
I passed out again.
When I came back around, I felt something dripping down my face and was sure it was my brains. It was applesauce.
“And that, Doctor, is why my hands shake when I eat applesauce.”
