If I were an Iranian, I’d want nuclear weapons, too. Doesn’t mean that I should be allowed them, though.

If I was an Iranian, I’d want Ron Paul elected as President.

If he were still alive, even Charles Lindbergh would kick Ron Paul’s ass.

Here’s your guy accusing Israel of turning Gaza into a concentration camp, and defending the terrorists who are blowing up Israelis:

This guy has no business being president of the USA.

“If I were an Iranian, I’d probably want to have a nuclear weapon too because you gain respect from that.”

It's impossible to defend this kind of moral-equivalence, thought-experiment of implied analogy. The Iranian citizen's relationship with his state is not the same as the United States citizen with his state. "If I were an Iranian"...

I'd probably want to be an American.

You can still say that about most citizens of most states around the world. It's not because America is better, it's because Americans are still a little bit free.

The U.S. and the rest of the free world have been apparently ineffective at stopping Iran's leaders from operating their nuclear program and arming themselves. Our leaders won't shoot the mad dogs because that would be unfair (not politically correct) and worse, it would be useless (never let a crises go to waste). I personally am for shooting mad dogs but barring that obvious solution, I not for taunting or toying with them.

Meanwhile, our freedom and future prosperity is being torn away from us in 1.2 trillion dollar chunks. I have not decided for or against Ron Paul yet but I will not let Iran be a effective distraction of the Fabian socialist statists the way Hannibal and his elephants were to Rome.

I’ve said on other threads I’ve stopped watching the polls in Iowa. When Iowa Republicans can put Paul on the top at any time, the polls and the peoples’ votes mean nothing.

I discount Iowa and New Hampshire, don’t care what their numbers are. We’ll get down to business after those.

“Although I am fully supporting Michele Bachmann, I will defend Ron Paul.”

Nah, you’re a Paul guy.

If only I could do the zotting...

But then I come to my senses and realize that it would probably be a very bad idea...

I keep waiting for Paul to say to his supporters:

“Enough already, I was kidding with all the wacky things I have been saying; it was a joke. You folks supporting me need to grow up. I was kidding with all those stupid things I was saying, you really don't think I am that stupid and crazy do you?”

Or something like that.

Anyone may disagree with Paul’s ideas, but what is wrong with the statement? Replace Iranian with Japanese, Brazilian, Italian or Vietnamese. Still the same thing. I’d like to have a nuke too. If I did, I bet those damn teenagers wouldn’t steal my pumpkins at Halloween either.

what is wrong with the statement?

Glad you asked.

  1. "If I were an Iranian..." - and Iranian what? Ayatollah ? President? Citizen? What kind of Iranian's shoes is Dr Paul trying on? Who does he want us to empathize with? I assume he means citizen, but Iranian citizens are brutally oppressed and gain no power from a weapon.
  2. "...I'd Want..." - Want for yourself? Want for you country? Want to brandish? Want for Israel or Washington DC?
  3. ...a Nuclear Weapon" - Nuclear weapons are not tools of diplomacy they are indiscriminate offensive weapons of annihilation. Most people in the world wish they did not exist. I sometimes wish that we had used them early and often to ensure that Communist Russia and Communist China never got them.

So, let me tell you what I wish Dr Paul would say:
We live in a world where rapidly advancing technology is enabling ruthless and evil tyrants, like those ruling the Islamic state of Iran, to develop and possess nuclear, chemical, biological, ideological, cyber weapons and other evils that we may not have even imagined yet. As the superpower we can
  1. Go on the offensive and try to dominate/destroy/rebuild/subject all nations that we detect approaching nuclear capability, bankrupting and and enslaving all of our citizens to do it.
  2. Continue to ineffectively rattle our expensive sabers using the threats of the world to centralize power and justify the gradual confiscation of the freedoms and liberty we enjoy. And by the way, the sanctions we impose only hurt the repressed people and may actually aid the tyranny.
  3. Lead the world in decentralizing power, maximizing economic opportunity for citizens in an environment where our own advancements in technology will keep us ahead of the enemies of humanity while empowering and liberating the people they enslave. We will speak past the world's tyrants to the people encouraging and empowering them, in every way, to set themselves free. Nuclear weapons are not and will never be beneficially useful to individual people of the world.
