~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base adjacent to Tucson, Arizona. The installation is primarily an Air Combat Command (ACC) base with the 355th Fighter Wing (355 FW) as the host activity. The base is also home to Headquarters, 12th Air Force (12 AF) and the Air Force Material Command's (AFMC) 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (309 AMARG), previously known as the Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Center (AMARC).

The 355th Fighter Wing is the host unit at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, however, other units also call D-M home. Twelfth Air Force, the 563rd Rescue Group and The Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) are all based out of D-M.

After the execution of Operation Enduring Freedom, eight A-10s from the 355th Wing were called to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan to fly close air support missions supporting multinational ground forces.

In September 2002, the 48th, 55th, and the 79th Rescue Squadrons (RQS) transferred under control of the 355th Wing, equipped with HC-130 aircraft and HH-60 helicopters. At the same time, the 41st and 43 Electronic Combat Squadrons were realigned under the control of the 55th Electronic Combat Group (55 ECG).

While personnel and aircraft remained on Davis-Monthan AFB operational control of the 55 ECG was assumed by the 55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Another major wing realignment occurred on 1 October 2003 with the activation of the 563 Rescue Group on Davis-Monthan AFB. Control of the 48th, 55th, and 79th Rescue Squadrons (RQS) was passed to the new group with the 23rd Wing assuming operational command of the unit.

The Pursuit

January 3, 2012

When my husband, Carl, pursued a relationship with me while we were dating, he was serious about it. He called. He wrote notes. He asked thoughtful questions. He bought me flowers, candy, books, dinner, and other gifts. He spent a lot of time and effort in his pursuit of me.

Way back in the 10th century bc, Solomon recommended that kind of serious commitment when pursuing something else—wisdom. A dictionary definition of wisdom, “understanding what is true, right, or lasting,” sounds crucial if we want a life that glorifies our holy God.

Maybe that’s why Solomon used so many active verbs in Proverbs 2 to describe our needed efforts to gain wisdom. He said, “incline your ear,” “apply your heart,” “cry out,” “lift up your voice,” “seek her,” “search for her” (vv.2-4).

Seeking wisdom takes effort, and Scripture tells us where it can be found: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” He isn’t storing up wisdom for Himself; “He stores up sound wisdom for the upright” (vv.6-7).

Seek God with all your heart. He is the source of all wisdom for your life.

What will it profit when life here is o’er,
Though great worldly wisdom I gain,
If seeking knowledge I utterly fail
The wisdom of God to obtain? —Nelson

You can acquire much knowledge,
but true wisdom comes only from God.

Read: Proverbs 2:1-9

. . . seek [wisdom] as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures. —Proverbs 2:4
Bible in a year:
Genesis 6-9

Hola, Ms. Lauren!

D-M is a great place to visit with a couple of good aerospace museums. We also have the boneyard here with literally thousands of aircraft in various stages of preservation and/or regeneration.

On the flip side, D-M was also the site of the destruction of a lot of our nuclear-capable heavy bombers as a result of treaties with the old Soviet Union. Most of the aircraft they destroyed had their wings sheared off by massive guillotine-like blades.

From the photographer; "Intruders, Orions, Hercules and C9 Nightingales in store." This looks like the rows along Kolb and Escalante, for those who know the area.

Do a Google image search on 'AMARG' for a great collection of photos of the boneyard.

Good evening Kathy!

*HUGS*

A slow day at work. Three of my 4 colleagues were in. Everything went great until I stopped to gas up on the way home. Lost my balance and fell flat on my face. Nosebleed, knot on the forehead and banged the knee. Apparently no damage done - I see the orthopedist for a routine follow-up tomorrow morning.

Hope all is well with you.

Aloha Teenster! ((HUGS))

I asked around today (as well as last night) and no one has any answers.......most everybody just stayed home and watched TV. A couple told me they noticed that the streets were empty but didn't much care because they were going home to watch TV and it was a lot quicker. My friend from Kona, who came over for football games at the sports bars and the New Years his home town was.....let me think of something other than his scatological epithet....highly disappointed. So he went off to his hotel room and watched TV.

Something closed down the place and maybe it was over the Coconut Wireless but I never heard it and none of the sports bars put signs on their doors saying they'd be closed on New Year's Eve or New Years day.

2011 ended pretty much dismally and 2012 didn't get off to a rollicking start. But on the bright side, tomorrow is the Iowa Caucus.....

Not due to the knee - it was slightly downhill - just lost my balance. I'm on a variety of meds, several of which can cause dizziness.

Great AFB!! My dad worked on the A-10 flight test program for Fairchild Republic at Edwards AFB in CA and was sent TDY to Davis-Mothan in 1976 for about a year. I followed my dad into the aviation business and worked on a B-1B modification for Boeing about 3 yrs. ago. I love Tucson and Davis-Mothan. Never served in the military but have been privileged to work on many of our defense Aviation program. God Bless the USA and our wonderful MILITARY!!
