My family Ancestral town and the place of my birth!! I was born at the D-M hospital! WOOHOO! I wish the nutcases in Tucson City Government prized this great treasure! All they have done over the past 35 years is bitch about the base being there!

Spent some time down in that area a few years back. Love the desert southwest. Been to Pima A&S Museum, hiked Saguaro Natl. Park and Tucson Mt. Park extensively, drove up Mt. Lemmon, went up Kitt Peak... Lots of fond memories. Dang, going to have to head back there next chance I get. Thanks for the post!

tomorrow is the Iowa Caucus.....

I suppose that is at least something to look forward to, not that it will mean THAT much but, hey...nothing else is going on!

On the flip side, D-M was also the site of the destruction of a lot of our nuclear-capable heavy bombers as a result of treaties with the old Soviet Union. Most of the aircraft they destroyed had their wings sheared off by massive guillotine-like blades.

Thanks for the explanation. I just pulled up Google Earth and poked around D-M and ran across a number of aircraft where the wings had been separated from their fuselages. That must be what had happened to them. But since the planes are now destroyed, I wonder why they haven't been sent to the Alcoa man and turned into soda cans or something ... they're still there.

Yep, sure is. Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, we’ve been watching a movie.

There was a verification component to the treaty - that may be why we left those aircraft ‘as is’ and visible to the Russian compliance verification teams.

Well, Happy New Year to you, too, my far-away friend!

YOu mean your whole TOWN was shut down? How does that happen?
I don’t remember reading any news about that!

Glad to see you’re all back and everything! When do you come
to the mainland?
