After a disappointing fifth-place finish in Tuesday's Iowa caucuses, Texas Governor Rick Perry said he is going home to Texas to assess "whether there is a path forward for myself in this race."

"With the voters' decision tonight in Iowa, I've decided to return to Texas, assess the results of tonight's caucus, determine whether there is a path forward for myself in this race," Perry told supporters at the end of the night.

The candidate, once considered a frontrunner in the race for the GOP nomination, earned just 10 percent on Tuesday's contest with more

Hopefully, this will be a lesson to any illegal alien pandering politician, who has the nerve to lend credibility and legitimacy by attending radical Mexican racist organizations, who are 100 percent pro-illegal alien.

He can take his "We have no heart" comments, right back to Texas with him.

Well, I must say after all the accusations by his detractors of how vituperative the Perry supporters were- This thread puts the lie to that assertion.

I somehow knew the “I told you so” anti-Perry people would be on here being just catty about Rick Perry if he lost. Looks like I was right!

When Perry was leading, there was some pro-Perry folks pushing the idea that supporting anybody but Perry meant supporting Romney, so you can't be too surprised. Quite a few of us did not take kindly to that crap, nor did we take kindly to being called heartless by Perry himself.

If Governor Perry can hold off until the southern states have their primaries, he may start pulling off some victories. He has a wide appeal in the southern states.

I looked over the Iowa Caucus results per the map at iowacaucus.com, and saw something that interested me (though I am not a political analyst). Of the 99 Iowa counties, Perry carried two outright (Gingrich did not) and Perry at least placed (was one of the top four selected) in 38 of the 99 counties (this is 36 plus the two he carried). There seemed to be more support for him in the central, western and southern counties of the state. That tells me that there is indeed support for Perry out there, even where he didn't obviously have it, and things are not as dismal as they seem. He spent money in Iowa and Texas supporters went there, and this is the result. It's not great, it didn't win him the caucuses, but it's not as if he was invisible either.

Food for thought, at least.

CNN is reporting that Perry is scrapping his South Carolina campaign schedule. RCP had Perry at around 11.5% in Iowa and he came in at just a hair over 1% below that. If that holds true in South Carolina, Perry has under 5% there. In Florida, under 4%.

Perry may have survived the TTC issue. He may have explained the Muslim issue. He might have even weathered Guardasil. But his stance concerning the illegal/fence was insurmountable. Taken together it was disastrous.

As a Palinista I ate crow. There’s always plenty to go around. But after the ‘racist’ comments and ‘you want BBQd Mexican children’ comments made on FR by Perry supporters to many of us not agreeing/wanting his policies for America, I am not shocked that many of us took it personally.

Okay you made me look, and Perry won one county by 7 votes over Santorum, the other by 18 votes over Ron Paul. Not exactly something to make a big deal out of, especially since Newt outperformed him by 3 points overall.

The person I was responding to was trying to spin this as Perry's problems being related to back surgery, when clearly Perry's problems were that he lost a lot of people on his own, or more likely that he never really had them in the first place.

It’s merciful.

When you have to spend so much time defending a candidate that then finishes fifth in Iowa - you picked a bad one.

Who cares? Maybe Ricky can run for Presidente de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos, his favorite country. He always seems to support Mexico and Mexicans over the US and Americans.

I agree. This result helps Romney and is better for him than he could have hoped for.
