I like the way she thinks!
You gotta be kidding me that any mom thought that was an appropriate year book photo.
I think this was done on purpose to generate publicity as a short cut to a modeling or acting career.
Funny, when I was in high school, our senior pictures had all the girls picture din the same way, a top with neck and shoulders slightly but modestly exposed. A girl from the Nazarene church refused to pose this way, and so was consigned to the back page of he annual. But she just took her medicine.
She looks like a ho!
Moms aren’t what they used to be.
I think I’m on the school’s side of this issue.
Seriously, if she wants to remember how hot she thought she was, when she was 17, get some private pics taken and preserve them.
A school year book is supposed to be something dignifying, not something you end up regretting.
NOT GUILTY !
audition for porn star....not really appropriate for high school IMHO
“It pays to advertise”-—just a phrase we used years ago-—Mother is an ass and does the daughter no service by taking her side-—too bad some parentas today can’t see their daughters as ‘ladies’ and not just girls
>>Censorship is wrong.
Then how about topless? Bottomless? Explicit?
Sydney, your mom is showing about as much intelligence now as when she named you. You wanna post sexy photos of yourself, do it on Facebook (and be ready for the consequences).
Yeah - something doesn’t smell right. Mom is saying that she didn’t want that photo. But then says “but we’ll support her on her choice”.
Some things I can see standing by your child when they make poor choices (like getting pregnant, etc.). But it sounds like this choice of photo might be a good learning experience for the kid to battle on her own - and accept the consequences.
BTW - I wonder what her hourly rate is?
All you prudes:
All she’s doing is climbing the stairs to get ready to do her pole dance.
Hopefully the teen will be able to use that picture. That way, 20 years from now when she is broken down and living in a trailer with her 4th baby daddy, people will be able to rummage through her old year book, find that picture and think “OK, it all makes sense now.”
It is pretty obvious that the mom is gay if you go to her FB page. So the fact she does not understand boundaries comes as no surprise.
I have kids in high school. I was surprised to learn there are more than a few Moms who still want to be head cheerleader or prom queen, and happily wear mini-skirts shorter than those of their daughters'.
Ah youth! If I was 30, er that is 40, No,No, 45 years younger I wouldn’t mind taking her up La Plata Canyon to see the mountain ranges from the top.
Oh wait, La Plata Canyon is closed in winter. Oh well, how about a trip to Lemon Dam or Valcito!
Seniors aren't either!
At first I agreed with you. Then I got to wondering- If Mama had a male shack-up honey, what terminology would she use in place of partner? (I've been away from that scene for a long, long time....)
Slut pix are not appropriate for yearbooks....I wonder if she has a different view of “headshots” than the rest of us.
Oh, we teachers fight this every day in the public schools. High school girls come to school dressed like this every single day even though it violates the dress code at every school I’ve ever worked at!
We call parents who often DEFEND this type of dress! I’ve also heard from parents, “well, she’s wearing more than you’d see at the beach!” Well, this ISN’T the beach! It’s a place of business.
Some of the girls change before they get to school at a friend’s house or in the girls’ bathroom. My very brave colleague asks parents why they allow their daughter to attend school every day dressed like a hooker
My daughter once asked me why girls came to her school dressed like this, I told her it’s because THAT’s all they’ve got. Funny, I never see girls dressed like this in the honors or AP classes.
Not appropriate for a high school yearbook.
And yes, to answer a previous query: Put cameras in the classrooms! I have NO problem with the public getting a good, honest view of what goes on behind school doors.
I bet you do have some stories to tell.
I’m impressed that this school in Durango has a standard. I hope they don’t back down. Shame on the girl’s mother for endorsing her bad behavior.
Did her parents allow her to wear that hooker outfit? What were the parents and teachers thinking? Is she in the glitzy pageant world? It looks like something that toddler wore.
Leave it out of the yearbook and let her tantrum all she wants.
That is the basis for my long standing proposal for Social Security reform:
Pay Social Security to young folks, who are banned from working until they reach 30; then the benefits are dropped, and they have to work the rest of their lives, paying into the system.
"Retirement" thus comes when one is young enough to enjoy it, while the work is done after one has become old enough to have some stability and direction in life.
Also, that gives a disincentive for Seniors to lobby for benefit increases. ;-)
“I’m appalled that the administration disregarded the original vote by the student editors”
That’s the very reason why all student publications have oversight from school administrators. Not that they are necessarily geniuses, but they do know what school policy and code issues are, and they’re the ones ultimately liable for a bigtime screwup, not the students.
As far as censorship goes, I know of no constitutional right to a racy yearbook photo. As long as the school’s dress policy has been consistent, I would imagine there is very little the ACLU or the student and her mother can do.
I think this is all a big publicity stunt anyway. Mom and daught looking for their 2 minutes of fame and maybe a chance at some of that reality shlock money.
Steven Hirsch has the ink dry honey...
Does she have a back problem?
If I were her dad I’d make her wear a brace to straighten her posture.
Some kind of scoliosis or a broomstick has been inserted would be my guess.
Is that the yearbook pic or one posted in a phone booth for a Call Out Service?
They didnt make them like that when I was in High School. Good thing too or else a lot of guys would have flunked out.
The photo Spies submitted shows her wearing a yellow skirt with a black shawl that exposes her shoulders and midsection.
I have noticed in some older yearbooks it was a tradition for the girls to all be photographed with their shoulders fully exposed to a remarkable degree, even in cases where the boys are all wearing suits.
I think a lot of people nowadays would see this pose requirement as being a little weird and not so modest.
Heh... a rising porn star!
She could make her school famous!
That's exactly the way my HS yearbook is. Early '70s.
Pulling the ole’ censorship argument, eh? Can she go topless or in her underpants if she wants all under the grounds of freedom of speech, Mom?
Or a pole dancing career.
That's one battle you wouldn't have here in Thailand and most of Asia. All students wear uniforms not only in high school but most technical schools and even many universities. In grade/high school absolutely no makeup and only minimal jewelry like earrings and a thin chain are allowed.
One day her kids will be so proud to see their mom dressed as a hooker in the year book.
Strange, when I dated her she didn’t wear the black top! Eat your hearts out losers!
If she’s wearing panties in that shot I’ll eat my hat!
The young lady needs to find a different advertising venue, other than her HS yearbook.
The HS is perfectly sound in denying entry of this photo. They have a dress code, and that logically covers yearbook photos.
Great shades of Kelly Bundy....
The only thing missing from that photo is a phone number and an hourly rate.
This has been going on for a long time. Saw it when I was in high school. Saw it when my daughters were in high school a decade ago. It's really sad the number of moms who feel compelled to compete with their daughters.
