Obama Takes Victory Lap
The Hill ^ | Jan. 6, 2011 | Amie Parnes

Posted on 01/06/2012 12:04:05 PM PST by Iron Munro

Two days after defying Republicans and appointing Richard Cordray to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, President Obama visited the new agency to take a little time to gloat.

Making a victory lap of sorts at the independent agency, Obama cracked a joke, telling employees that he came by to help their new director move in.

More seriously, a seemingly content Obama called the man he tapped a “great director who is tailor-made to lead this agency.”

With Cordray at the helm, after months of delay, the agency will help Americans better digest mortgages, student loans and credit card fees before they become entangled in debt, Obama said before a packed room of more than 100 CFPB employees.

“Now that Richard is your director, you can finally exercise your responsibilities under the law,” Obama said. “We can help give people the clear and transparent information they need” to make the right financial decisions, he said.

Obama was welcomed by an extremely supportive crowd of bureau employees who loudly cheered his arrival and were especially boisterous when Cordray introduced himself as the official director of the agency. A lottery was held Thursday night to dole out seats to employees who wanted to attend the event.

The trip to the agency came just two days after Obama made the surprise decision to appoint Cordray to the agency while Congress was on recess.

Question for you legal FReepers. Why doesn’t some group sue the federal govt / executive branch that these appointments were unconstitutional? I think that it is a slam dunk for judges to rule so.

The House of Representatives should pass a resolution stating that the Congress is not in session. The attempted unconstitutiional appointments to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) are therefore null and void. No funds will be appropriated by the Congress for payment of personnel and associated operations of the CFPB and NLRB.

RE :”We conservatives remain at a disadvantage. By its nature, the Democrat Party is an organized criminal enterprise that will do anything to win. Until we fight back, Obama is going to be reelected.

Obama is using a poll driven focus group re-election strategy that requires Republicans to be in at least partial control of congress to work, which they got a year ago. Daily messages by Obama/Democrats:

1) It's a Republican congress
2) It's a Republican congress that will do little except block things and fight for the rich
3) They defend the rich over you the middle class (FICA battle)
4) They want the economy to fail so I am defeated
5) I alone have offered a credible jobs bill, they block it because of #2+3+4
6) I am fighting for the ‘middle class’
7) Only I want what is best for this country, Republicans instead play politics.

He repeats these over and over and nearly every action he does between last year and the election is designed to feed that theme to those that vote but don't watch or following things closely(and don't read FR).

And Republicans plan?? “DUHHH”! They have no visible leader/spokesman or a plan that I can see.

What do you really think the odds of mcconnell and boehner doing anything remotely like that are? I agree that they should.

Out of complete frustration I even handed them a specific counter-strategy attack plan on it, but I have little hope that they will do anything new or clever to hurt Obama back.

You have excellent ideas... but we have two of the largest cowardly progressive turncoats to ever lead the party. They think we are all crazy... according to Rush who would know... they hate and despise us all.

BTW : That idea was not intended to be primarily a policy idea, although it does have the potential to start a SS reform.

That idea was designed to cynically split Obama(the voters he needs) from his liberal base supporters to turn up heat on him, much as he has doing to Republicans for a year now.

Few here seem to have a clue as how to fight a political war, and it’s frustrating for me to watch sometimes

RE :"You have excellent ideas... but we have two of the largest cowardly progressive turncoats to ever lead the party. They think we are all crazy... according to Rush who would know... they hate and despise us all"

Rush should have been calling for their replacement in early 2009 and then early 2011 as I was doing here, not waiting till they fail and all options are bad. If Republicans lose significantly in November then it is unlikely they will survive as Republican House/Senate leaders

Rush sends very mixed and inconsistent messages sometimes.

Obama is playing to his base. He wants a confrontation with Congress so he can blame all of the nation’s problems on them and not his policies.
