In my world, if a violent altercation occurs between two humans, the innocent assaulted party should live, and if anybody has to die or get critically wounded, it should be the sadistic perpetrator. Call me freaky.
To make certain this occurs, the innocent party has to be able to do one or two things when the crap hits the fan:
1. Open up a can of whup ass and immobilize the foul weed, thus sending him to the hospital.
2. Double-lung the loser with a hot dose of lead, thus sending him to hell.
Yes, the one being preyed upon has to be able to do the abovementioned because the quickest cop on the planet cannot respond fast enough to save your backside should things go violently south. You dig? Oh, I know … it will never happen to you.
Of the aforementioned, an 18-year-old Oklahoma teen mom, Sarah McKinley, selected option #2 this past week. McKinley, who had just lost her husband to lung cancer on Christmas Day, was home with her 3-month-old baby boy on New Year’s Eve when two dillweeds decided they were going to break into her casa. Good Sarah was having none of it. Are you paying attention, ladies? You are? Excellent.
McKinley, upon hearing and spotting one of the Darwinian holdovers wielding a 12-inch hunting knife, cordoned off her door with a couch, put a bottle in her kid’s mouth to keep him calm and then proceeded to the sweet place where her 12-gauge shotgun and handgun reside. Smart chick. I bet Jesus really likes her.
Upon arming herself, she called 911 to get a green light from dispatch to dispatch the two dipsticks of bad intent. Sarah is both polite and deadly—a two-fer, boys. Upon getting the nod from Nine One One, McKinley then dusted the knife wielder, and the other bandit fled the scene and was later arrested when Goofy called emergency to report his dead buddy.
This is the kind of story that we should read about more often; namely, the evil SOB is dead, and the innocent girl and her baby are alive, and all of this occurred because the femme fatale had the wherewithal and the knowledge to defend herself with a lethal weapon—also known as my friend, the gun.
Check it out, mamas: I guarantee that as she was sitting there alone with her tiny bambino on New Year’s Eve, Sarah probably thought that things couldn’t get any worse after losing her husband on Christmas Day. And yet things did get worse. But, thankfully, she was trained and had a gun. This dire situation ended well for her and hers all because of her wood and metal amigo … the gun.
How would you fare, my dear reader, if you were tossed in that same situation? Would the headline read the same as dear Sarah’s does, or would the perpetrator gain the upper hand because you can’t or won’t protect yourself, your brood and your castle?
My NRA magazine has similar, under-reported stories in the Armed Citizen section each month.
Liberals who love politics and playing the lottery are “antigun/antiwar” hypocrites... it’s only because the perp got severe demotion and handed the sword to her trigger finger that Obama liberal fascist like Obama balk... because they know they and the government filth are too much like the perp.
Multiply this event by 100,000 and you would have a pretty good start on a civilized society.
They want to take the guns away from law abiding citizen. Remember Rosie O’Donnell? Who had an armed guard.
Justice is most efficiently served at the time of the incident if the intended victim can hand out the sentence to the assailant. Anything else is usually inefficient, costly or unjust.
She is my personal hero at the moment. I have been meaning to get trained for years and keep putting it off. The premiss of this story is correct (if I am understanding it correctly). It is like the mamogram that I have been meaning to get,and keep putting off, everytime I see reminders for it, I am that much more likely to go make an appointment to do it. That is the whole point of the breast cancer awareness thing, right? This is a story that, if told repeatedly when it occurs, could save lives. It could save mine one day. I am motivated to go get my training by this one story. How many others would be if we heard more?
I’m curious as to why this incident is getting so much play in the media. I read stories about armed citizens killing POS criminals all the time on FR. Why does this particular incident grab so many people?
Also, this author’s vernacular writing style is really obnoxious.
Thank you. I was about to say the same thing. Great girl, though.
I have a binder containing twenty years of American Rifleman’s “The Armed Citizen”. Fun reading, especially when the perp assumed his victim lacked the nerve to shoot and shortly thereafter is either dead on the victim’s lawn or is insisting to the EMT nurse that he was at home cleaning his gun when it went off by itself, twice.
The assembled stories also demonstrate the wisdom of having enough gun. Too many perps shot with .22 pistols survive to stand trial.
Someone wrote that these evildoers attended the husband’s funeral and figured the young widow would be easy pickin’s. Gives new meaning to guarding the house during the service.

In this story the 911 operator told the woman, "I can't tell you to shoot, but you need to protect yourself and do what's right."
In an identical situation in California, the 911 operator told the woman to put the gun away so she didn't provoke the intruder or harm someone.
“... I’m curious as to why this incident is getting so much play in the media”.
I have wondered that myself. I figure this incident has all the “drama” of a made for t.v. movie. Young, beautiful widow.... three month old infant, living alone in an isolated area and two ruffian, burly males. IMHO, this story has captured people’s interest because they know if she wasn’t armed... this incident would more than likely turned out horrible for the woman and her child.
I didnt see that one. Got a link?
I think one reason it is getting so much play is the race of the dirtbags. No one is coming forward to say they were misunderstood yutes. Reporters don’t have to worry about getting certain people upset.
If the Gun Grabbers and the rest of the Socialists in the Nation had their way,
That young woman would have been DISARMED and at the mercy of the knife wielding thugs.
Just off the top of my head, I recall two errors as I quickly read over this: They referred to her baby, Justin, as being a 3 yr. old, and they quoted her as saying “Get a dispatcher out here quickly” not “get a dispatch out here quickly”, as it showed from the tape. Either these errors were just sloppy writing/editing or they were trying to subtly make her out to be questionable.
The woman was getting her daughter ready for school when an intruder entered the house. She called 911 and said she was upstairs with her daughter and had a gun. The operator told he to put the gun away and she said, NO.
The next thing heard was the woman yelling that she had a gun and knew how to use it, followed by two or three shots.
Then she told the operator, "he's gone."
She had fired warning shots down the stair well and the guy took off. I think they caught him down the road.
She did what she had to do, end of story.
Ms McKinley's 58-year-old husband Kenneth had died from lung cancer on Christmas Day, leaving behind their three-year-old son Justin, and an arsenal of cancer medications.
That's the first time I heard or read how old her husband was. Also, their son was 3 month old, not 3 years
The Oklahoma Castle Doctrine, otherwise known as the Make My Day law
LOL. Haven't heard it called that before.
Doug Giles is very pro 2nd amendments rights!!! Are you against those?
Thanks for posting. Agree it is the most in depth, something our US papers should be doing and yet another reason I monitor the foreign press.
I particularly like their description about the surviving perp:
I’m talking about the style of writing not the substance. Thought that was pretty clear.
The lesson in this story is that if you are dumb enough to rely on a 911 call to save you, you are harboring a death wish.
Most crime is committed by a relatively small number of chronic criminals. How many robberies, burglaries, and muggings does a criminal need to do to get enough cash to supply himself with food and drugs? At least one per day. This girl probably made a significant dent in the crime statistics for her area for the upcoming year.
The 911 operator was exactly right and knows the law in OK which is that in Oklahoma you have the right to protect yourself during a home invasion, which in Kalifornia you don’t have
It has sellable dramaher husband died on Christmas day of cancer and, like a prairie wife with wolves at the door, she grabs the shotgun to protect her baby. They can sell that by attempting to jerk a few tears.
What I find interesting is how unsympathetic to this cause the young lady is. Listening to her you don't feel sorry for her since she doesn't act like a pathetic victim. I hope she and her baby will now have a blessed life.
First of all let the horses think as they have larger heads. Second the dirt bags where white not black
***Im curious as to why this incident is getting so much play in the media.***
The media went on an anti-gun tirade back in 1963 when Kennedy got shot. From that day, we saw lots of anti-gun newspaper articles and anti-gun themes were worked into all TV shows, even the western and detective and comedies had their anti-gun lines. Some western movies of the early 1970s had anti-gun themes.
Any good use of a gun was played down or turned into a “vigilante” discussion.
When an armed civilian helped a policeman stop the Texas Tower shooter, his role was downplayed When a TV movie was made of it, the writers managed to sneak in a very anti-gun line, and, at the end of the movie, a voice over advertizement for another show was used to cover up a statement that the shooter had a brain tumor which may or may not caused his rampage.
Why is it that I remember all these details after 41 years when the TV movie was broadcast?
And don’t get me started on the only Archie Bunker, or Heck (Richard Boone) Ramsey, or Dennis Weaver spouting anti-gun lines.
It was hoped by politicians that all handguns would be permanently banned by 1979.
I had my little .22 Browning lady gun. My son got a beautiful .357 magnum S&W revolver and came over to show it off. Mama promptly confiscated it. “If Mama ain’t happy, nobodies happy” is the working philosphy here.
Didn’t see it mentioned where it took the cops 20 minutes to arrive at her house.
I love the part where they explain that it took the perp 20 minutes to break in the house. Nowhere does it explain why in 20 minuts the cops couldn’t get there.
Some of the comments are ridiculous.. wound the robber indeed.
And that pic of her hubby (with the beard) looks like it’s about 30 years old heh.
