In my world, if a violent altercation occurs between two humans, the innocent assaulted party should live, and if anybody has to die or get critically wounded, it should be the sadistic perpetrator. Call me freaky.
To make certain this occurs, the innocent party has to be able to do one or two things when the crap hits the fan:
1. Open up a can of whup ass and immobilize the foul weed, thus sending him to the hospital.
2. Double-lung the loser with a hot dose of lead, thus sending him to hell.
Yes, the one being preyed upon has to be able to do the abovementioned because the quickest cop on the planet cannot respond fast enough to save your backside should things go violently south. You dig? Oh, I know … it will never happen to you.
Of the aforementioned, an 18-year-old Oklahoma teen mom, Sarah McKinley, selected option #2 this past week. McKinley, who had just lost her husband to lung cancer on Christmas Day, was home with her 3-month-old baby boy on New Year’s Eve when two dillweeds decided they were going to break into her casa. Good Sarah was having none of it. Are you paying attention, ladies? You are? Excellent.
McKinley, upon hearing and spotting one of the Darwinian holdovers wielding a 12-inch hunting knife, cordoned off her door with a couch, put a bottle in her kid’s mouth to keep him calm and then proceeded to the sweet place where her 12-gauge shotgun and handgun reside. Smart chick. I bet Jesus really likes her.
Upon arming herself, she called 911 to get a green light from dispatch to dispatch the two dipsticks of bad intent. Sarah is both polite and deadly—a two-fer, boys. Upon getting the nod from Nine One One, McKinley then dusted the knife wielder, and the other bandit fled the scene and was later arrested when Goofy called emergency to report his dead buddy.
This is the kind of story that we should read about more often; namely, the evil SOB is dead, and the innocent girl and her baby are alive, and all of this occurred because the femme fatale had the wherewithal and the knowledge to defend herself with a lethal weapon—also known as my friend, the gun.
Check it out, mamas: I guarantee that as she was sitting there alone with her tiny bambino on New Year’s Eve, Sarah probably thought that things couldn’t get any worse after losing her husband on Christmas Day. And yet things did get worse. But, thankfully, she was trained and had a gun. This dire situation ended well for her and hers all because of her wood and metal amigo … the gun.
How would you fare, my dear reader, if you were tossed in that same situation? Would the headline read the same as dear Sarah’s does, or would the perpetrator gain the upper hand because you can’t or won’t protect yourself, your brood and your castle?
My NRA magazine has similar, under-reported stories in the Armed Citizen section each month.
Liberals who love politics and playing the lottery are “antigun/antiwar” hypocrites... it’s only because the perp got severe demotion and handed the sword to her trigger finger that Obama liberal fascist like Obama balk... because they know they and the government filth are too much like the perp.
Multiply this event by 100,000 and you would have a pretty good start on a civilized society.
They want to take the guns away from law abiding citizen. Remember Rosie O’Donnell? Who had an armed guard.
Justice is most efficiently served at the time of the incident if the intended victim can hand out the sentence to the assailant. Anything else is usually inefficient, costly or unjust.
She is my personal hero at the moment. I have been meaning to get trained for years and keep putting it off. The premiss of this story is correct (if I am understanding it correctly). It is like the mamogram that I have been meaning to get,and keep putting off, everytime I see reminders for it, I am that much more likely to go make an appointment to do it. That is the whole point of the breast cancer awareness thing, right? This is a story that, if told repeatedly when it occurs, could save lives. It could save mine one day. I am motivated to go get my training by this one story. How many others would be if we heard more?
I’m curious as to why this incident is getting so much play in the media. I read stories about armed citizens killing POS criminals all the time on FR. Why does this particular incident grab so many people?
Also, this author’s vernacular writing style is really obnoxious.
Thank you. I was about to say the same thing. Great girl, though.
I have a binder containing twenty years of American Rifleman’s “The Armed Citizen”. Fun reading, especially when the perp assumed his victim lacked the nerve to shoot and shortly thereafter is either dead on the victim’s lawn or is insisting to the EMT nurse that he was at home cleaning his gun when it went off by itself, twice.
The assembled stories also demonstrate the wisdom of having enough gun. Too many perps shot with .22 pistols survive to stand trial.
Someone wrote that these evildoers attended the husband’s funeral and figured the young widow would be easy pickin’s. Gives new meaning to guarding the house during the service.

In this story the 911 operator told the woman, "I can't tell you to shoot, but you need to protect yourself and do what's right."
In an identical situation in California, the 911 operator told the woman to put the gun away so she didn't provoke the intruder or harm someone.
“... I’m curious as to why this incident is getting so much play in the media”.
I have wondered that myself. I figure this incident has all the “drama” of a made for t.v. movie. Young, beautiful widow.... three month old infant, living alone in an isolated area and two ruffian, burly males. IMHO, this story has captured people’s interest because they know if she wasn’t armed... this incident would more than likely turned out horrible for the woman and her child.
