Ron Paul Defends Romney, Lashes Out at His Critics By Jonathan Karl

In an exclusive interview outside a Manchester polling place, Ron Paul lashed out at fellow Republicans for making unfair and ignorant attacks on Mitt Romney's business record.

"I think they're wrong. I think they're totally misunderstanding the way the market works," Paul told me. "They are either just demagoguing or they don't have the vaguest idea how the market works."

Paul also came to Romney's defense for saying " I like to be able to fire people."

"I think they're unfairly attacking him on that issue because he never really literally said that," Paul said. "They've taken him way out of context. … He wants to fire companies."

In Paul's view, Romney is right to say that he created jobs by restructuring companies.

NOBODY can listen to the full context of Gov. Romney’s remark about liking to be able to fire people and believe that our media is anything but flat-out dishonest — not biased, not tilting left, but flat-out dishonest. Their standard was stated by Dan Rather: “I believe you can lie about any number of things and still be considered an honest person.”

I am absolutely not a supporter of Mitt Romney, but must defend him against these leftist attacks on him by his rivals. His job at Bain Capital was to turn companies around, to save them from bankruptcy, and he did that well. That often entailed streamlining. Other companies have done the same with companies they have taken over to make them profitable. Nobody likes to see people fired, but had Bain Capital not done what they did, ALL the jobs at those companies might well have been lost.

Newt and Perry need to get off it.

Paul, a closet LIBERAL naturally disses the three conservatives in the race 24/7 and praises the most liberal candidate 24/7.

“Fire people?”

Try fire companies for bad service. Like your insurance provider. As in freedom and not one size fits all government.

No Romney fan, but these attacks on capitalism and free enterprise (from Gingrich and Perry) are sick.

I'm cool with firing folks. Especially lawyers.

Do what I say, or hit the road, if I'm writing the checks.

What is the heartache with firing folks that don't do what they were contracted to do?

Oh... and Mittens isn't going to get my vote, ever.

I’ll get in trouble for this, But Newt GIngrich ALSO said it was stupid to attack Romney for his comments about firing people, although he also pointed out that Romney says things stupidly and it will come back to haunt him.

It would take no time at all to fill a thread full of reasons to not vote Romney. Start with his being the architect of Obamacare!!!

Instead, the braintrust of Gingrich and Perry decide to attack him for being a greedy, heartless capitalist.

The massive Gingrich brain we’ve all been told about is apparently non-existent as he’s resorted to the line of attack I’d expect from my brain-dead lib brother-in-law.

But Romney hasn’t yet said what department he’d end or cut. Why not cut the D of Ed or defund NEA?

Yes, when trying to salvage a bad business situation, it may be necessary to fire people. I don’t think this is something that one should feel happy about unless they are dishonest or otherwise bad employees. It is the “I like to fire people” that bothers me. Sounds like he enjoys it, TOO MUCH!!

Yes, what Romney said is being unfairly mischaracterized in the media, and by some Republicans. Yes, what Romney said was not well thought out - again, a GOP candidate opens mouth before engaging brain. There’s enough ammunition that the libs can use without any of the GOP candidates offering up more during the primary.

BUT why should American taxpayers have to be forced to pay for Willard’s business incompetence and greed?

Workers were denied the severance pay and health insurance they’d been promised, and their pension benefits were cut..

What’s more, a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT insurance agency had to PONY UP $44 MILLION TO BAIL OUT the company’s underfunded pension plan.

Nevertheless, Bain profited on the deal, receiving $12 million on its $8 million initial investment and at least $4.5 million in consulting fees.

http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/01/bain-drip-drip-drip/

The Wall Street Journal analysis is also quite devastating for Willard the Vulture/Lib at Bain..

Adding insult to injury, Bain would hide its profits in tax havens, not even paying the rate it was supposed to on the profits it made laying off workers.

Let’s see how the taxpayers feel about bailing out these companies’ pension funds and receiving no tax money back from Bain. Let’s let the people decide what they think of bailing out Romney.

Nobody, including Bain, should get a bailout. But reducing your payroll is very often a necessary step to make a company more efficient so it can survive. Otherwise, nobody gets anything because the company collapses.

This line of attack is anti-capitalist and anti-free market, as Rush pointed out today.

I was born in Wichita, by the way. I look at it this way. I’ve worked for 4 corporations. They make monumental mistakes and when they realize it they try to capture the most gain and get away.
Venture capitalism is the same way. Anyone tied to these groups needs to be held to a standard, though. Did you try to make it work or did you just make a half-assed effort, and suck out the most you could and move along.
Integrity and Capitalism should be side to side or else they’ll be cannon fodder for socialism and communism.
Capitalist’s are smarter than most but never seem to realize when the rubber hits the road they’re out-numbered.

Like the lib media, you’ve misquoted him. He did not say “I like to fire people”. What he said was “I like to be able to fire people.”. It’s the “be able to” part that changes the meaning of the quote.

Actually, he did use the wording I quoted, however, the meaning given the actual context has been distorted.
