If Romney is the nominee, I will vote for him, yes.
But, I would never “pick” him for anything.
We still have primaries and caucuses to explore.

However, when you’ve had the supposed conservative media, like National Romney Online, and the inside the beltway supposed conservative media pushing Mitt for as many years as they have...since 2006...I’m not surprised that our most outstanding conservatives chose to sit this one out.

Yessir...that we do. And, I pray we are successful.
It took Reagan well over a generation to become the president, and in order to get there, he was one of the leaders of the conservative movement.
I think we may just be too impatient, and like little children, expect instant gratification. Perhaps the success of Tea Party (which may be the re-brith of conservatism), the success that was so huge and came so quickly really doomed us.

I don't know who you would have liked to run who is not running. I like Sarah, but she may be taking a longer view, realizing she is not ready. Or some of the Class of 2010 Tea Party candidates. Or Jim DeMint, who I greatly admire.
Most senators have little or nothing to show for their career. Jim DeMint is one of the fathers of the Tea Party, and he managed to save an entire country (Honduras) from a communist dictatorship, despite the efforts of Obama administration (plus the resto of the commies of the western hemisphere: Castro, Chavez, Lula of Brazil) to make it a communist dictatorship... Yet, some freepers are ready to throw DeMint under the bus...
No, that is the dumbest strategy. Let me give you just one result of this strategy: Obamacare
All it took is a few conservatives not staying at home in 2006, 2008, and Obamacare would have been defeated.
Staying home is dumb. Had we made the best of it and elected more to the house/senate in 06/08 we’d have kept Obamacare from becoming law.
If Romney wins SC I see no way he doesn’t win FL. That would be 4 in a row with more coming. Could he be challenged after that? Possibly but it would be unprecedented in modern presidential politics (to my knowledge) and unlikely to be successful. So the question will be, “What next?”
I understand the pain of seeing it all unfold in slow motion - but it’s happening. It’s a sh** sandwich for sure. From where I sit, there’s not much choice but to suck it up and work hard on other priorities or stay home (the latter being unacceptable to me).

But Romney may not have it locked up even if he wins SC. If 2 of the 3 (Gingrich, Santorum, Perry) drop out after SC, 1 remains we may have a race after all.
That said, I am so committed to getting Obama out that I would vote for Huntsman (his wife or daughters), if that's what it took to get Obama out and Obamacare repealed.

But FWIW, the Governor (Nikki Haley) gave Romney a full blown endorsement. Rush, DeMint, Haley, .... everyone’s going socialist.
It’s possible except, I believe, for the ego’s involved. If Romney wins - Perry and Huntsman should be out. I do not see Newt or Santorum dropping out for a few more states. Newt has stated that he sees Santorum as the Jr partner - which he may have trouble ceding the conservative spot to. Santorum has done decently - so seems unlikely to walk away without more losses (and he’s more flush with money than he’s ever been).
I think Romney goes up in this situation (more likely to get Huntsman voters) and the conservative vote is still split two ways and either one or both is likely to be drained of funds. If the conservative vote is split through March 6, it’s done. The path for a conservative consolidation is very narrow.
I was born into the mormon church and lucky to get out. I’m not voting for Romney. If it looks like Romney would win, I’ll vote for the opposition. I didn’t set up this game, to choose between two devils and no “none of the above” option on the ballot.
If you have facts that a Mormon can’t make his decisions in government without subjugating them their church, that’s a great position.Otherwise, I don’t see how it’s anything other than religions bigotry. Would seem odd to put the former on Mitt as most people on this forum would wish he governed more in line with the (public at least) precepts of Mormon church. You can not vote for Mitt based on whatever basis you choose - but I think the logic put forward here says more about you than it does about Mitt.
There was no reason for a three term Governor and the guy who came in second to leave the race to get out of Mitt’s way, Romney should have dropped out.
Romney only has a single, disastrous term in elective office, for all of his 20 years of trying.
Bishop Romney is a leader in the religion, he did not violate Mormon teachings.
Romney will require especially devout, and devoted (and secretive) Mormon Secret Service agents if he becomes president, drawn from the 15% of Mormons who qualify as uniquely devoted, to share in the inner secrets of the religion and leadership, and who are so designated for acceptance by the Bishops like Mitt Romney.

Thank you so much for your post. It is well thought out, though I don’t think it’s well reasoned.
We don’t have the time to expect anything but instant gratification. This country is broke...the GDP is on par with the debt. We are paying out as much as we take in, and that is going to get worse every single month.
I know what you mean about the temper tantrums on FR. I’ve been seeing them for a while now.

BTW, you and I have the same taste in candidates. It’s too bad we don’t have one of our favorites running now.
My best hope is for a brokered convention. I’d like a do-over.
