I beg to differ. I live in Pennsylania and there are two reasons Santorum lost in PA. The author is correct about the first. PA voters are greatly influenced by name recognition. It is an aging population here and I'd be willing to bet that some of these voters actually thought they were voting for Bob Casey Sr.

But the main reason Santorum lost was because of his support of Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey in the previous election's primary. The conservatives never forgave him. Just further proof of why nominating a moderate will almost always guarantee a loss in the general. The key to winning an election is to motivate your base and get the "crawling over broken glass" voters in your corner.

The Dems know this and I just can't understand why the Republicans just can't get it through their heads. Why do you suppose the Dems are salivating over Romney? Not to mention their crass view that Romney's Mormonism will repel the strong evangelical vote.
